That One Movie
hey Sorors and Sistah Friends,
happy Martin Luther King's Birthday! i am sitting here at home vegging out and watching movies, enjoying the day! this question might be for chit chat but i wanted to know what movies brought tears to my sorors and sistah friends eyes, guys can answer to. (guys get emotional, too!!) i just finished watching "The Color Purple" and the scene when Shug was singing "Sista" and then started singing "God is trying to tell you something" when she was reunited with her father brought tears to my tears. but when cecily and netty came together i was boo-hooing all over the place. share your boo-hoo movies.... MaMaBuddha _____________ Imagine a subway filled with fallen angelz... |
Hello everyone...
I was supposed to be participating in a MLK parade today, it's raining, but... a boo-hoo movie of mine is... Imitation of Life....that ending and MAHALIA singing at the funeral.... It makes me appreciate my mother more and more everytime I see it! |
Soror CrimsonTide...

oh, I cried during the wedding scene of The Wood...it was just so overwhelming (lol), then I looked over and saw my boyfriend was shedding a few tears....then I really got emotional....lol
when I was a little girl, I cried in one of those Benji movies...all I know is that Benji could not find his way back home... |
Can a Nasty Q-Dawg show his soft side? I have never cried at a movie, but I must admit that in THE COLOR PURPLE, when Miss Celie met her sister, I had a little catch in my throat, plus my date and every other woman were balling their eyes out. It was tough not to feel something.
BOYZ in the HOOD: when Morris Chestnut got shot and the mother was in denial, trying to wake him up and his girlfriend was screaming. Didn't cry but that reminded me of when my cousin was shot and my aunt and female cousins crying hysterically. That was too close to home. TOY STORY 2: when the Cowgirl was explaining how her owner took her to a dump and left her when she went off to college. The song playing in the background was, unexpectantly, very sad. All the adult women around me were cying and my date was squeezing my hand very tightly (she still slept with her favorite stuffed animals). IMITATION OF LIFE: is my Dad's favorite movie. He owns the tape, but I have never, ever seen him cry. |
Imitation of Life does it for me too! But Malcom X also makes me boo-hoo. When Sam Cooke starts singing, watch out! Here comes the tears!
|
Oh my I BOO HOO on a lot of movies
1. Color Purple: Boo Hoo when Sophia has her encounter with Miss Millie and the Hell No. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/crying.gif I boo hoo when Celie helps her in the store and I boo hoo like Crazy on my song, God's Trying to Tell You Something http://www.plauder-smilies.de/crying.gif 2. Imitation of Life: Yes the funeral for me toohttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/sniff.gif 3. Fried Green Tomatoes 4. BAPS: I cried when the old man died. A lot of people knocked this movie but if you remember it was the 90's female version of Disorderlies 5. Remember the Titans 6. Simon Birch: When the mom and Simon diedhttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/bawling.gif 7. Stepmom 8. Roots 9. How Stella Got Her Groove Back: When Whoopie died and she sang Row Row Row Your Boathttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/bawling.gifhttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/bawling.gif 10. Love and Basketball: Final B-ball scene, "I'll play you. . . for your heart (BIG OLD BOO HOO)http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/bigcry.gif 11. The Lion Kinghttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/bigcry.gif 12. Soul Food Whem Big Mama diedhttp://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/bigcry.gif 13. THE GREEN MILE : John Coffey's part in this movie was very emotional and heartfelt. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/cry.gif There are some more but these are the TOP 13 that instantly came to mind. Can you tell I am procastinating on grading these papers?? ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. Black is bold and worth a hell of a lot more than gold. |

Boyz in the Hood was a tear jerker as well as Poetic Justice when TuPac came in to the beauty shop. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. Black is bold and worth a hell of a lot more than gold. |
Okay, DoggyStyle I was totally not expecting Toy Story2. That part was very sad! I'm trying to imagine this big old Que's throat getting a little clogged over it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Here goes my list: #1 Color Purple - sistah girl is sangin that song down to the church. I get the chills in the roots of my hair and then they travel through me. #2 Beloved - In the shack, where Oprah was swingin the baby, "Beloved", around like a sack of potatos because the white slave owners are coming to get her. HONORABLE MENTION, the scene where they're milking her! #3 When A Man Loves A Woman - Andy Garcia is explaining to his step-daughter that he has to move away from them- (childhood scene for me) #4 Phenomenon - John Travolta is dying in his girlfriend's arms. #5 Frosty the Snowman - Last but not least, every year 'as a child' I would cry my heart out when he'd go into the train as a Snowman and would end up a puddle on the ground. My mom used to watch me each year, while I was watching it and wait for that part so she could laugh at me. **She told me this years later! ------------------ "Unless you know the road you've come down, you cannot know where you are going" ~Temme proverb, Sierre Leone~ [This message has been edited by jazbri (edited January 16, 2001).] [This message has been edited by jazbri (edited January 16, 2001).] |

I have a few movies I cry on: 1) Father of the Bride - I have seen this movie only once, and will never watch it again. I can't handle it. 2) When a Man Loves a Woman 3) The Color Purple (I cry EVERY TIME she starts walking to the church. And it has nothing to do with the movie, per se, she actually ministers to me with that song.) 4) Imitation of Life 5) My Life (I have given up on Michael Keaton movies, too, I can't handle the daddy movies.) 6) Jack Frost (I saw this before I gave up on Michael Keaton.... this was the determining factor.) 7) Armaggedon 8) Beaches ('nuff said) 9) Runaway Bride ("I guarantee . . .") 10) Notting Hill ("I'm just a girl, standing in front of a guy, asking him to love her.") Ok, CrimsonTide, I feel you on Love and Basketball, for real. I have seen the Lion King countless times, I have only watched the part with Mufasaa ONCE. I fast forward thru it everytime. I can't handle the daddy movies. And I saw Father of the Bride BEFORE my father died. I was a freshman at college, and I missed my daddy!!! By the way, CrimsonTide, you couldn't do service with me yesterday because of grading those papers, I ain't forgot! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Moni, I really was trying to grade papers but it just was not happening. So I decided my service would be to make sure you had things to read and respond to on Greek Chat. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif MLK Day and the 16th is just hard for me. MLK reminds me of my dad doing the I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH and the 16th . . . I am with the soror and Moni who said that the song ministers to her and it just leaves chills all up and down my back. Seeing her make that walk back to her daddy is so emotional. I showed it to my juniors and when she hugs her daddy, I fall out. Alice Walker and Steven Spielberg just don't know that that song is like the hit of the century. EVERYONE knows that song. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. However I do have a question, what part of Cruel Intentions made you cry because if I recall correctly that was an off the hook comedy. ------------------ Black is a mystery, and part of my history. Ahhhhh . . . sweet nostalgia . . . |
MamaBuddah,
Imitation of life is my all-time favorite. Make sure that you get the second version of "Imitation of Life." The first version is good also, but the second when Mahalia begins singing "Soon will be done with the troubles of this world..." The tears will begin to fall and will not stop until the credits. Hope you enjoy it!! **The Color Purple** When Mr. separates the sisters was a tough scene for me. I have seen that movie a million times, and that always is a tear-jearker. Also Shug and the church scene, and the ending!!!! ~~Sniff~~ |
Quote:
It's all right to be sensitive. I cannot believe you have never seen Imitation of Life. Please make sure that you get the Lana Turner version. It came on last week and I was on it. I have never seen Benji either. I remember that I cried on the series finale of THE COSBY SHOW!! I also cried on Stompin' at the Savoy. I cry everytime Eddie Cane Junior sings I feel Like Going on. It brought tears to my eyes just to see it and then when the little girl calls her brother DUCK, boo hoo again. [This message has been edited by CrimsonTide4 (edited January 17, 2001).] |

The 1st Land Before Time had me crying too. (Little Foot's ma died) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I cannot forget about how I cried while watching Panther! |
ok know i've got to add my $.02:
1 the color purple- when my sister got married we called her husband mister for the longest because he was separating us 2 terms of endearment 3 follow that bird- big bird is adopted by the do-do birds and the tease him for being different and he runs away and some unscrupulous circus people exploit him as a side show act 4 stepmom 5 north and south 6 sugarhill-when goggles died 7 the five heartbeats 8 steel magnolias 9 the green mile- i cried the whole movie! when he came down the mile the 1st time and was scared and asked if they could keep the lights on ohh my goodness 10 dangerous liasons (if you like cruel intentions, you must see this film. it was the predecessor set in victorian times with glenn close john malcovich (sp)keanu reeves uma thruman; i highly recommend this picture) those are just a few! |
Okay...the ultimate tear-jerker will always be The Color Purple. When Oprah was reunited with her children, my eyes were BLOODSHOT RED.
1. Titanic-when the ship started sinking, it was all over from there 2. Jerry Maguire-Tom Cruise's character came back to the house to "re-claim" his wife after he realized how much he loved her....ENOUGH SAID!! 3. The Best Man-even though Morris Chestnut's character knew that his wife cheated, he still held on to that vow he made to God and married her http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif 4. Higher Learning-when Tyra Banks got shot, (even though she is not one of my favorite actresses), I had to leave the theatre cause I was crying so loud! 5. Jason's Lyric-ya'll know the scene, when Jada gets shot and we all think that she's dead!!! That is a SERIOUS cryfest there! ------------------ "Mind ya own, stay true to ya own, be ya own." Peace and God Bless Classy_Diva5 [This message has been edited by Classy_Diva5 (edited January 17, 2001).] |
I don't usually go for tearjerker movies....
1) The scene at the end of Ghost where Whoopi(Patrick) and Demi danced! I cry everytime. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif 2) In the Color Purple, a. I crack up when Celie is shaving Mister. She shoulda hacked his th'oat! b. The bar scene where Sophia knock the s^*& out of Squeak. I hollered...even when I read the book, I was on the floor! 3) In T2: Judgement Day, the scene where the mother (Linda Hamilton) is having a nightmare about the nuclear holocaust is frightening. I remember that scene whenever I hear anything about nuclear weapons. 4) Here's an old one, in When Harry Met Sally, the restaurant scene! "I'll have some of what she's having!" Keep 'em coming! ------------------ MCCOYRED Dynamic Salient Temperate Mu Psi '86 BaltCo Alumnae |
I'll keep my list short since I'm at work. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
1) Color Purple- when the sisters are separated. 2) Ghost- When it's time for Patrick Swayze's character to leave. 3) Cooley High- When "It's so hard to say goodbye" started playing at funeral at the end. 4) Soul Food- When Mama Joe died. 5)Imitation of Life |
I'll say dito to the ones in front of me but i wanna add one
The Perfect Storm..i cried sooooo card when all of them died. |
I can agree with most of the ones listed above...but I'm going to add one more to the list....
Recently I saw Disappearing Acts--remember the part of the film with the black and white pictures? The combination of the music and the pictures got me to thinking how for a while, my parents weren't together...that got my a little misty.... PrettyPetite |
Alright Sorors and SFs:
Beaches ( too much to handle) Bamboozled had a sistah broke all the way down (do you hear me?) Color Purple (the end where Celie and Nettie see each other again and when Mistah tells her to get away an never come back and when Sug finds the letters and Celie is reading them smelling the rose petal and when Sophia is the woman's maid and she takes her to see her family and they have to leave early because the woman is scared) "You an me us neva paut, makidada. You an me us have one haut, makidada. Ain't no ocean ain't no sea, makidada. Keep my sista way from me, makidada" *sniff, sniff* Rosewood Malcolm X Ghost Love and Basketball Set It Off (The end was fierce) I also cried on The Champ Heck I cry on just about any movie. Heck, I cried on Life with Eddie Murphy and Martin when he figured out that the man at Bosses house was the man who took his daddy's watch and was therefore the man responsible for their incarceration. Mm! Purple rain when prince's daddy tried to kill himself (is that what happened? I can't remember, but I cried.) My Dog Skip (with my son, I was broke down to the last compound) Terms of Endearment Five Heartbeats The Green Mile Oh don't let it be a documentary about my peoples, it's on! Four Little Girls Eyes on the Prize Mmm hmm I'll be back with more... [This message has been edited by DELTABRAT (edited January 19, 2001).] |

Boys on the Side is my boo hoo movie. The tears start -a- rollin' when Whoppie sings "Anything you want..." near the end and the girl with AIDS just fades away in the chair - symbolizing her death. I mean, I start crying hot tears, y'all.
Braveheart is also another tearjerker ~ when they cut his wife's throat. And ... Gladiator, when he sees his wife and son hung. |
another movie that made me tear was:
if these walls could talk part 2 when the when one of the lovers died and the family basically kicked out the other old lady. she had no where to go. :( |
Real Tearjerkers
Here's my list:
- The Rock - Rosewood - Set It Off - Love & Basketball - Sixth Sense - Armaggedon http://www.plaudersmilies.de/cry.gif |
Hold up!
NO ONE CRIED during Glory? When Denzel let that ONE tear fall?!?

personally, i don't cry over movies, but i asked one of my sorors and her responses:
sankofa a tree grows in brooklyn cooley high she's never seen imitation of life  , but i'm renting it for her tonght and i'm sure that will be the next addition to the list. |
I'm an Alpha man the emphasis on man, but i do have a sensitive side. I've never cried over a movie but in the movie City of Angels with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan, When Meg Ryan was killed I cold fill my heart stirring, but I repeat for those who didn't hear me the first time, I've never cried over a movie. Imagine loving someone that much to give up the ability of an angel and become human then to lose that one. damn!!!!!11
Imitation of life was a heart toucher too |
