SDSU Delta Sig...
yes stans fraternity...
last night i was partying at my fraternity, in fraternity row when i keep hearing people talk of someone dieing at delta sig. i have heard a few different things, and i am still not sure what happened, but i did get word that it was a brother that died in an accident. my thoughts and prayers are with delta sig |
DeltAlum made two posts about it. It was at the University of Idaho.
Two brothers were in a motorcycle accident last Saturday night/Sunday morning in front of the chapter house. Also a football player was shot and killed in his off campus apartment last Sunday. The week before a recent graduate died in Iraq. |
It's true. One of my chapter bros passed away last night. I don't have a soft copy of the press release, but I know it will get in Fraternal News or something, so hoosier please post it.
It still doesn't even feel real yet. I take comfort knowing where he is now, and that he's safe. Please, any support would be greatly appreciated. |
Stan, I want to send my deepest condolences to you and your chapter for the loss of your brother. I got an email from the Coordinator of Greek Life (Doug Case) at SDSU, and if you'd like, I can post that information here in addition to anything that's posted in Fraternal News.
|
I'd appreciate it. Doug Case was there, so I believe what he has is the official statement.
The guys are just trying to remember the great times we had. He was a great guy, and I'm going to miss him so much. You always hear "he was the kindest, most fun loving guy" and other things, but they're honestly true about him. I feel honored to have him as my brother, and I know some time we'll see each other again. |
thoughts and prayers to all involved.
how sad. |
Stan, I'm sorry to hear this.
|
My prayers and sincere condolences for you and your chapter. My heart breaks for you. :(

Stan, man, I am so sorry to hear of the lose of a Fraternal Brother.
I am sure it is hard on the Brothers of Delta Sigma Phi. As you said, you know where he is and is safe now.:( |
Here is a article about it.
A 21-year-old San Diego State University student was found dead in his apartment on Fraternity Row early yesterday, the school said. Roommates found Douglas R. DeWitt, a junior from South Gate, in his room about 1:45 a.m., SDSU spokesman Jason Foster said. They immediately notified university police. It was unknown how long DeWitt had been dead, Foster said. The cause of DeWitt's death is unknown, although it does not appear to have involved foul play, Foster said. The county Medical Examiner's Office planned to conduct an autopsy today. DeWitt was an active member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, which is adjacent to his apartment building on Hardy Avenue. He had been a member since fall 2002, fraternity president David Hillery said. "We have no idea (what happened)," he said. "We're just trying to cope with our loss." Chapter adviser Jim Boggus said DeWitt, who was majoring in public administration, was a good student who did missionary work in Australia in the summer. The university is providing counseling to residents of the apartment complex and to other students, Foster said. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/m...-1m26sdsu.html |
Here's the email that I received yesterday from the Coordinator of Greek Life at SDSU:
I regret to report that Delta Sigma Phi lost a brother last night. Doug DeWitt, a 21-year--old junior who was majoring in Public Administration was found dead in his bed in his first-floor apartment in the Delta Sig complex in Fraternity Row. He pledged Delta Sigma Phi in fall 2002. He was last seen around 2:00 a.m. Friday morning when he went into his bedroom, and his body was discovered by his roommates around 1:00 a.m. this morning (Saturday). He had apparently been dead for several hours. He appears to have died of asphyxiation from vomit, leading to speculation that his death may be related to alcohol poisoning. However, until the Medical Examiner's Office receives the toxicology report and completes their investigation (which may be several days), the actual cause of death cannot be determined. SDSU Counseling and Psychological Services staff were on the scene last night to assist the members and will be meeting again with the brothers again this afternoon to assist them with the grieving process. I know that the fraternity would appreciate any show of support, comfort and condolences the Greek community can offer during this time of tragedy. The fraternity tentatively plans to do some type of local memorial event, and once the details are determined I'll send out an announcement. Doug Case |

I finally found the words....
Doug’s Song By Tristan "Stan" Mangindin We feel so honored and so touched to say that we we’re your brother It’s that kind of bond we shared that I know helps us recover As I write this dedication I can’t help but reminisce Cause it’s all the little things about you that I mostly miss I remember you came to us in the Fall of 02 You were fresh up out of high school, didn’t know what to do And we knew right from the start that your heart set you apart You were just down for whatever, yet still smart like Descartes Though a different legacy, you still joined DSP Cause you met by chance another brother from LLC You were pinned as a new member of the DK pledge class I remember when you took me cause you got me so fast And you were Jim’s little bro, we saw that he taught you well You had met a cool girl named Lori, had got her under your spell You had friends from different houses, ZBT, DU, KD They all would be drawn towards you, you’re the life of the party We would hang out in your dorm, there we found a strong connection I would chill out in your room, you would steer me in the right direction Preping for the night, watching TV, you three chillin Won’t forget the time you noticed that I listened to Bob Dylan Would enter through your balcony, watch same movies again You drove us in your Explorer, when we all watched Anchorman And sometimes it’s just so hard, to look at our memories It’s just so hard to accept, He chose this as your destiny Chad called to attention, that your room was all a mess And I’d tell him to just chill, as I sat across your desk And that night that we had fought, over who’s Supi’s big bro All this stuff that I remember, still so much I had to know Delta Sig won’t be the same, at least won’t be for a while Cause we can’t get out our minds, your plain fun-loving smile If you ask me what to say about you through this darkened strife All I’ll say is I don’t know a guy who had a greater life We would act like such a fool, you’d tell us it was normal You had such anticipation, to hang with Kaira at formal You’re the Sofa King, good times you’d bring, I know for you the Angels sing Can’t believe that you’re not with us, feels like I’ve been struck by lightning Make a play in Crescent Bowl, give us a bear hug So excited when we listened to Pac’s “Shorty wanna be a thug” Can’t believe I was deceived and all we’re left to do is grieve All I know is that you’re with Him, safe as long as we believe Never got to watch the Blue Collar Comedy Tour But you’re saving me a seat in Heaven, one for all of us I’m sure I know you’re smiling at us, getting Texas Hold’ Em ready Won’t forget the times we played, like that one time you had wrestled Eddie We would talk about the Fall, how y’all would throw the bash You would talk about the influence you had from Johnny Cash So it’s hard to open my blinds, see across to your room It’s the place where we woke up, and felt effects from the boom Always thought that we’d grow old, sharing our lives together We would be Alumni, chilling when our career’s gotten better Now you’re gone, but I remember you and got nothing to hide Cause I know our Father’s got a plan to join us on the other side Hope I can live my life, like you traveling down under It’s the time that you were happiest, but I sure must wonder What a life you would have lived, if He let you go on But I must accept the fact that, for now, you will be gone So I’ll pour out of my forty, in remembrance of you And I’ll carry all your wisdom, that I learned as we all grew It was only three short years, but we knew you belonged here You’ve left such a touch around us that your love won’t disappear Your self-determined prophecy was that you got into SC No doubt about it, we’d agree, that you’re born of a special breed You touched us all, just ask Davey, or Kuopp, or Carl, or Chad, or Spees Your look on life had made us take our lives so easily And as we say good bye I wish you God Speed, watch above us I know you are an Angel, cause we know that you had loved all of us Make us laugh and keep in mind, that we’ll think of you often Brother Doug, you may be gone, but you’re never forgotten |
Stan, thanks for sharing that with all of us, and I know that Doug's presence will be missed by your chapter and the rest of the SDSU Greek community.
