Formal chapter meeting times?
I was wondering when others meet for formal chapter. My chapter meets at 5:45 (right after 5 p.m. dinner) on Wednesdays. Most other GLOs on my campus meet on Wednesdays as well.
However, I know it is common practice at other schools to meet on Sunday or Monday nights, and I'm beginning to think that Monday night would make more sense for my chapter. So, when does everyone meet, and what are the advantages/disadvantages? I would imagine Sunday would be a little tough because of members coming in from the weekend. I'd appreciate some thoughts! |
We used to meet Monday nights at 7:00PM in the colony days. I think in our 3rd semester, we decided that people were always running late, so we moved it back to 7:30PM.
Somehow, to this day, chapter is held at 7:30PM on Monday nights. |
Both when I was in chapter and the house I currently advise both had Exec Board meetings on Sunday nights...
As for chapter meetings, the campuses have it set up that all potential meeting rroms reserved for the sororities at 7:00 pm on Monday. |
Monday nights =) exec is on Sunday nights it's a problem for evening class people... but there's usually only around two people a semester that have class..
|
When I was an active, we had meetings at 7:30pm Monday night, Exec Board at 6pm Monday night. So many people had to miss due to a switch in core classes being held on Mondays, that they now meet on Sundays, same time.
|
Back in my collegian days, chapter was held at 7PM with chapter council at 6 or 6:30PM (depending on the load of the agenda). Chapter and Chapter Council have since been moved to Mondays because many girls serve as ASUH senators, and they hold their meetings on Tuesdays.
Executive Council was held once a month on the first Sunday at 1PM, not too early, yet not too late. 6-7PM was ideal because most girls were done with work and school by then. We tried Sunday nights before, especially during rush, but getting everyone to commit and be focused was just like pulling teeth. Early in the week was the way to go, they've all gotten over the weekend by then. |
Our's is on sunday evenings at 7:00p.m. ( Exec. Board meeting one hour eariler).
|
Our exec meets every Sunday at 7.
Which is why I wish chapter was the next day. Mondays just make sense because it's the start of the week and everything would be fresh on Exec's mind from the night before. When my sister was an active Gamma Phi at UGA, they met on Mondays. |
Tri Sigma:
All the sororities here coincidentally have the same meeting time- Chapter meeting- Sunday night @ 7pm Exec Board- Wednesday night @ 9 pm Kappa Phi: Chapter meeting- Tuesday night @ 8 pm Executives- same night @ 7 pm. |
The chapter that I graduated from and now advise used to hold chapter on Sundays at 7. Since that time it has been switched to meeting on Mondays at 7.
I think the majority of chapters at Iowa State meet on Monday night and some meet on Sunday night. I think the reasons for the switch were due to: some members having to return earlier from trips out of town on the weekends, a lot of other chapters met on Mondays, so sometimes on campus groups would meet Sunday nights - therefore members would have to miss a mtg somewhere, out of house members can come over for dinner at 5:30 and then just stick around for chapter. The only disadvantage that has come out of it thus far is that sometimes a member has to take a class at that time and therefore can't attend chapter. |
Chapter was held on Mondays at 6pm (if I recall correctly). Exec meetings were usually held on Sundays.
|
Chapter is held every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
CMT (exec) is held every Tuesday and Joint CMT (with directors) is held every other Tuesday. |
whoa. you guys have EARLY meetings.
we used to meet at 8pm on tue for officer meetings and 9pm for chapter meetings |
I think all the sororities at Marist have meetings on Mondays around 9'ish (after night classes get out). For KLP, our meetings are at 9:45, 9:30 for formal meetings. Our executive board meets sometime during the week that's best for them and right before meetings as well.
|
We have meetings at 7 on sundays and exec is after that ... it would make a lot more sense to have exec before though ...
|
We have our Exec meeting at 4:30 on Sunday, followed by our business meeting at 5:30. When we have Phis, their weekly meeting is typically at 7:00. This mostly just sucks for me, because I'm the only one who has to go to all three of these meetings. Some Sundays, I sit in meetings for 5+ hours, but like I said, most people don't have to deal with that.
I think Sunday is the best day for meetings, because few people have other academic commitments on that day. I basically set aside every Sunday, starting after church, for taking care of Phi Mu stuff. |
We had chapter meetings at 7pm on Sundays. Exec met before that at 6 or 6:30.
|
My chapter would FREAK if we met as late as 9 p.m.
They want to be getting ready to go out by then, haha. Like, it's a big deal for us when we meet. We used to meet at 6:30, then we changed it to 5:30, which turned out to be too early, because we eat at 5 every night. So we changed it to 5:45. Which is dumb, because we never get started until 6 anyway. |
Our colony started at 9PM on Sundays due to schedules, is now at 8PM on Sundays. Seems to be working.
|
I think all of the sororities and fraternities at OSU have their chapters on Monday nights. We have chapter dinner at 5:30 and normally chapter follows immeidiately after. This quarter our president has class until 7:18 so we have chapter at 7:30. I can't stand having it that late and I don't know how other sororites/fraternities do it like that all year.
|
I know on our campus all the GLOs have chapter on Sunday night, most of us at 7:00. I like it because we have lots girls taking night classes (we're a mostly commuter campus) during the week. We have our EC on Tuesday nights, because that's when it worked out best for the 8 of us that have to go.
|
All the sororities at Miami have chapter meetings around 5pm on Wednesdays. Our exec meets at 5pm on Sundays.
|
my senior year, we had chapter at 9/9:30pm on thursdays that sucked pretty bad. esp when we had elections and were there till 1am
|
Our meetings were on Sundays. Exec met at 5:30 and the Chapter meeting was at 7:00
This was a good time because you knew people didn't have class, and most people are off work by that time on a Sunday evening. |
We do them on Wednesdays at 10 with pledging activities to follow. It worked well because everyone gets their work done before then so we can party into the night on Wednesday.
|
We have ours Sunday night
Brother Dinner - 6pm Exec Meeting- 7pm Chapter Meeting - 8pm (Our Exec also meets every Thursday) It's a good way to kick off the week and to get everyone back into the college mind-set If you can't make it back to campus by 8 pm Sunday, then I see that as a priority issue. |
All the sororities and fraternities at Furman have chapter on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights. Sunday and Monday are the best because the night classes always meet on Tuesdays.
Times...usually around 8ish. Some have it at 7. Kappa normally has our Chapter Council at 7pm before chapter at 8, on Mondays. If we started any later, people would get seriously cranky! Whenever that clock ticks past 9...people start to get really squirmy. *KTK* |
Officers meet at 5pm, the rest of the chapter meets at 6pm--on Sundays
|
My chapter meets at 8 pm Monday nights, meetings usually last an hour. I think exec meets at 7:30 Monday nights.
|
Our colony of Alpha Sigma Tau meets at 6:00 on Sundays.
All (all 3;)) Panhellenic sororities on campus meet on Sundays. We also have Panhellenic meetings on Sundays. EBoard switches days depending on their schedules. We just had elections, and the new meetings will be in my apartment (yay! I'm Secretary!), probably either Wednesday or Thursday... most likely at 6:00 or 7:00. |
Here at Minnesota, most all chapters have dinner and meeting on Monday nights. Our chapter has exec on Sunday nights. Monday dinner is at 5:30, followed by meeting. I always liked having meeting at the beginning of the week, and it worked nicely to have exec the night before.
|
exec meetings were sunday nights at 7
chapter meetings were monday nights at 6 could have changed since I have graduated though... |
Exec was usually 8pm or 10pm on Sunday with Cabinet at 9pm every other week.
All the chapters at Nebraska have formal dinners on Monday Nights (most chapters, most weeks out of the year this meant guys wore jacket and tie, girls wore fashionable female equivalent). Formal dinners start between 5:15 and 5:30. It is convenient for many non-GLO campus groups, b/c if they have something going on or are looking for new members, they can do house announcements at that time and reach about 90% of the people likely to join or take part (This is probably one of the reasons why Greeks dominate all the important campus groups at Nebraska). Formal dinner for my chapter was done at about 6:15 or 6:30, depending on guests (alumni or speakers), what we had for dinner, and how many house announcements there were. Some times people had class, but I just put it into my schedule that I absolutely would avoid any class at that time unless it was just completely unavoidable. My other orgs met every other week on either Tuesday or Wednesday evening (I was in a bunch so it was interesting juggling them all), with exec meetings during the off week. ODK was the only group I had that met on Thursdays. I usually didn't go to those meetings. |
Sundays at 5:30. E-board and sometimes standards is at 5 p.m. We used to have it at 7 or 7:30 but chapter would sometimes run until midnight so it became necessary to move it. It was hard because people used to have jobs until late on Sundays.
|
We hold our chapter meetings on Sundays at 5:00- we just switched from 2:00. The executive board meetings about an hour before our chapter meetings.
All the sororities at Eastern Michigan have their chapter meetings on Sundays, as far as I know. |
NPC/IFC chapters hold their meetings on Wednesday nights here. I've seen them start anywhere from 6 PM (or right after dinner) to 8 or 9 PM. I guess it just depends on the chapter.
We schedule our meetings for Tuesdays at 7, so that girls who are in social sororities can also join our organization. That's how pretty much everything runs at Tech -- you won't find many student organizations that meet on Wednesday nights (unless it's executive boards or something like that) to accomodate the Greek community. |
