CSI Miami

Ok I watched the season premiere last night and was really shocked when I found out that they were killing off Speedle. Miami isn't my favorite of the CSI's but I did like his character. I was shocked.

kateshort 09-21-2004 10:33 PM

It *sucked*. I'm done. Anyone else joining me in watching LAX? I watched it because I was bored last week and tuned in on purpose this week (we taped CSI Miami so we could FF through all of the stupidity. It thinks it's clever, but it isn't subtle at all. Feh.)

CatStarESP4 09-22-2004 12:20 AM

I was very upset they killed Speed. He was one of my favorite characters. I wish that the writers would have had him transferred to another city or given him a long term family crisis that he had to deal with. I am still reeling from the episode. My mom thought that he would be in CSI:NY as a totally different character, but I don't think so.

BTW, Rory Cochrane (Speed) was in a movie with my actor friend called Empire Records. Rory looked a lot cuter as Speed than Lucas.

LoveMyKeyKKG 09-22-2004 12:44 AM

I had never watched the Miami version of CSI because David Caruso bugs me. But I tuned in last night out of curiousity to see who would die. I'm so sad that it was Rory's character. :(

I read somewhere that he asked to be written out of the cast. I wonder what he is doing next.

Don't forget that he was in Dazed and Confused as Slater...

"Check ya later!" :D

jess_pom 09-22-2004 09:33 AM

David Caruso bothers me too. His delivery is totally unnatural. Hopefully whoever they hire to replace him is hot, because that show is seriously lacking in the guy eye-candy department. It's no comparison to CSI in that department.

dzfan 09-22-2004 09:35 AM

I'm so mad at myself for missing this-so they killed Speed? What happened? No offense-but this show seems to be better than LAX-I'm having a hard time getting into it (although I'd been looking forward to it).

So is CSI Miami losing the quality that it usually has?

adpialumcsuc 09-22-2004 12:13 PM

I don't think Miami ever had the quality of the Vegas one but I do enjoy watching it still. However if I miss one I am not saddened. David really bugs me also but I like the rest of them.

They killed him of by having him involved in a shotting in which his hand gun jammed and the guy they thought was the murderer shot him.

I will say that they at least had an in-continuity reason for it to be him-- he never kept his gun clean, and he tended to borrow from Calleigh's kit and not return stuff right away. Since he didn't clean the gun, it wasn't clear and it jammed, causing him to be distracted and totally open for the guy to shoot him.

Still sucks, though. I like Calleigh and Alexx, and ... crap, I can never remember the Cuban-Amer CSI's name! Gah! But he's cool. I hate hate hate Caruso, and wish the Hispanic lady they had as a deputy occasionally during the first season was still around instead of adding the sister-in-law as a major character. I like how she's got a realistic accent, so I don't think that's the thing that bugs me about her, but something just really makes me wish she wasn't there.

jess_pom 09-22-2004 05:56 PM

Oh, yeah, did anyone else notice Speed seemed "off" the entire episode? He seemed distracted and, I don't know, I guess tired or depressed. I knew, from the internet rumor mill, that he was going to leave, but I was still hoping it wouldn't be him!

ASUADPi 09-26-2004 10:39 PM

I have to admit that I bawled my eyes out, even though I knew in advance (like everyone else probably did) that Speed was the one to die. What kind of irked me is that the characters really showed no emotions. I get that they are working, but seriously I would have had such a hard time keeping my emotions in check if I was in like Calleighs position and I showed up to the scene and I saw my friend dead on the floor. OMG. I would have started crying.

Then during the funeral procession, oh lord, I was in tears again. Especially with the folding of the American flag and the gun salute.

I too wish they hadn't killed off Speed. I get that the actor wanted to leave the show, but why kill him off? All you had to do was transfer him or something.

I'm not a big Miami fan, but I did watch this episode to find out how the episode would go.

ADPiShannan 09-27-2004 09:21 PM

Speed was my fave Miami character. I hadnt read anything on the new season cause I didnt want to know. I was praying it was someone else and I too cried the whole show once he was killed. Its sad to say, but I wont watch anymore. Hes the only one I liked on that CSI and now hes gone, I refuse to watch it anymore. I know he wanted to leave, but the show just isnt good.

Im more for CSI Las Vegas. That one is the best by far.

I agree Ive watched a ton of Rorys movies. Thats why I watched Miami. Empire Records, is one of my fave movies and he is so HOTTTT in it. I also loved him as a long haired stoner in Dazed and Confused. Great movie on my HS days lol...

CatStarESP4 09-28-2004 02:01 AM

I saw the first post-Speed episode. I did my best to be strong. I didn't cry, but I was still in shock from last week's episode. It isn't the same without him.

Now, I am in the mood to see Empire Records for the upteenth time. Not only to see Rory, but also for my actor friend. I wonder when are they going to show it (uncensored, thank you) again. I would also like to see Dazed and Confused. Is that one any good?

Here is a link to an interview Rory gave about his leaving the show.
Have a look!

ASUADPi 09-28-2004 09:22 AM

thanks for the link!!!!

kind of puts it a bit into perspective.

At least he didn't like how his character was written off anymore than we did.

CatStarESP4 10-06-2004 02:36 AM

Last night, I saw the second Post-Speed episode. They already have the new guy replacing him and he (the new guy) just gives me the creeps. I just don't like him at all. I know I have said this before and I will say it again: It is not the same without Speed. I miss him a lot!

BTW, this coming Sunday, A&E will start airing the old CSI: Miami episodes. I am not sure whether they show an episode per day or per week.

adpialumcsuc 10-06-2004 02:20 PM

I found the new guy a little weird also. Especially his comments to Callie about having her hands in her pocket. Oh I miss Speedle

CatStarESP4 10-12-2004 01:52 AM

CatStarESP4's take on tonight episode and related matters!

Tonight was the third full episode without Speed. I still miss him a lot and it's just not the same without him. Who is Delko going to exchange verbal wits with? I can take comfort that the new guy was there for a few minutes and didn't say much. Still he made me feel uncomfortable (eerie).

A&E started airing the first season of CSI: Miami this past Sunday. I had a moment of silence for Speed in the first commercial break and ate some cake while watching the show.

This past Friday on Spike, they showed the episode of CSI Las Vegas/Original that also served as the pilot for CSI: Miami. It was a treat since the debates were driving me bananas.

jess_pom 10-12-2004 07:18 PM

Can anyone re-cap the last half-hour of last night (10-11)'s show? I fell asleep and missed it!

Thanks!

CatStarESP4 10-13-2004 06:00 PM

Jess_Pom, I have seen the episode from start to finish. However, I don't know where to start with explaining the second half of it. I will give you a link to the entire synopsis and analysis of the episode. I hope this helps! CSI: Miami Episode!

CatStarESP4 10-28-2004 01:43 PM

I missed the October 18's episode because I was in DC with my cousin. However, I did see October 25's episode. I still can't stand the new guy and despite what he said about not replacing Speed, I still miss him (Speed, that is). It still isn't the same without him.

ASUADPi 10-28-2004 01:57 PM

I have to honestly say that I've stopped watching the show. I only watched it sporadically in seasons one and two (although I bought season 1 on DVD and have now watched it all), but the show just doesn't seem the same without Speed there.

I'm still mad at them (the writers) for killing him off. I get that the actor wanted out of his 6 year contract but why kill him? They could have easily just written him off and then if for some reason the actor decided to come back, oh look he can. Ugh writers sometimes. :)

dzfan 10-28-2004 04:30 PM

>>I have to honestly say that I've stopped watching the show. I only watched it sporadically in seasons one and two (although I bought season 1 on DVD and have now watched it all), but the show just doesn't seem the same without Speed there.

are you serious?!?! I know it sucks that he's gone-but no reason to not show our support. It seems like they've been much more creative with the storylines recently-who would've thunk about the face print on glass and how many inches a knife went in a mom's body to determine it was the daughter. You may have missed the most recent epi-but it's been really good recently imo...

Yeah I am serious.

I was NEVER a big CSI-Miami fan in the first place. I didn't recently get into the show until now.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but I don't feel it's anyone's say to tell me that I'm supposed to continue watching a show that I was really never into in the first place.

Plus, some characters just sometimes make a show and there is a chemistry. When someone leaves the chemistry gets out of whack. Sometimes the producers can hire someone who can get that chemistry back, IMPO most of the time they can't. From the groups I belong too I haven't heard much great stuff about the new character they added to replace Speed.

CatStarESP4 11-02-2004 01:35 AM

They had just shown the Lost Son episode again, the one that we lost our poor Speed. I didn't want to see it again at first, but I did. I am still upset that they killed him off. I miss him terribly!

adpialumcsuc 11-02-2004 02:31 PM

Yeah I can't believe that they were already running reruns from this season.

CatStarESP4 11-09-2004 01:43 AM

I just saw the latest Post-Speed episode. I lost track on how many Speed-less episodes, but I still miss him a lot and it's not the same without him. I still find the (not-so) new guy annoying and he can never replace Speed.

The episode itself was interesting and complex. It was a 90 minutes long, it was that intense.

I can't stand that IAB guy Stetler. He is a major jerk! I wouldn't be surprised if he actually hit Yelena. However, I liked how Horatio dealt with Stetler.

AXiD Sweetie 11-09-2004 08:34 PM

If you guys hear when they are running re runs, please let me know. I'm dying to see this ep, but I don't have a TV, and most people here aren't into CSI Miami. I'm really not either, I just want to see that ep. I'm hoping for re runs during Christmas Break!

CatStarESP4 11-16-2004 06:35 PM

Last night, I saw the latest Speed-less episode. I still miss him terribly and it's not the same without him. I didn't see the first 5 minutes of the show because I fell asleep in the middle of Two and a Half Men. I woke up and it was 5 minutes after the hour. The episode was interesting, but it had a gross moment or two.

I have a link to an interview Jonathon Togo (Ryan Wolfe) gave. I still don't like his character, but it did open my eyes slightly and I kinda warmed up to him (not much though, I still miss Rory Cochrane's presence on the show).
Here is the interview to check out!

CatStarESP4 11-23-2004 02:01 AM

Tonight was yet another Speed-less episode. The show is still not the same without him. I still miss him terribly.

The episode overall was good and somewhat intense.

This past Friday, CBS aired an episode of CSI: Miami from the second season (Speed was there). I taped it so I could watch it whenever I wanted.

CatStarESP4 12-01-2004 05:27 AM

Monday was yet another Speed-less episode. Yes, I still miss him a lot and the show isn't the same without him.

It seems Delko has taken over Speed's spot as the somewhat older and wiser CSI now with Wolfe as the young naive one. Horatio was accused of police brutality which was not true. That jerk Stetler ordered Horatio to seek counseling to help him (Horatio) deal with Speed's death. Stetler should seek counseling himself after he hit Yelena. Speaking of Horatio, it seems he is suffering from survivor's guilt over that day we lost our poor Speed. Also, Horatio could potentially be involved in a romance.

My mom and I saw CSI: Las Vegas this past Thursday with that moron Ecklie (sp?). Days later, we see Stetler in CSI: Miami. My appalled mother said to me, "What another stupid idiot!".

The guy who accused him of police brutality is a good friend of mine. :)

CatStarESP4 12-07-2004 02:04 AM

Originally, I wasn't going to post until I see a new Speed-less episode and go on about how I miss him and the show isn't the same without him.

They were supposed to show a repeat of the first Speed-less episode tonight. I wasn't planning to watch it opting to watch the football game instead.

I was pleasantly surprised when they decided to show the episode from last season that introduced us to most of the cast of CSI: NY. Speed was definitely there even though he was in a few scenes (one of them helping his NY counterpart connect a piece of evidence). That was a real treat and I am glad that I stuck around for it!

GreenKappa 12-14-2004 03:14 PM

Did anyone watch last night. I was addicted to my new Alias season one and was obssessed....did i miss anything crucial in terms of the overall show plot.

CatStarESP4 12-15-2004 03:19 PM

I saw Monday night's episode, the latest Speed-less one. I still miss him terribly and it's not the same w/o him.

The episode involved a carjacking and gambling addiction. Alexx was giving a demo to people who have been charged with drunk driving. There was one gross moment. The only disappointment was that I wanted to see Horatio on the couch with the shrink talking about Speed's death, but they did not have it. Oh, well it could happen in a future episode.

I would like to see more episodes of the first two season on Friday or Saturday nights on CBS.

CatStar - I think you are so funny - I love reading your posts. It reminds me of "dear diary...tonight I saw another episode without Speed....I miss him..."

I swear to God that I'm not being mean or trying to sound that way - it is really precious!

I too was a Speed fan -- not because I find him hot (eww - not me), or because I think he was a particularly fab actor -- but because he just kinda made the show. He would show up all grumpy like and then he & hot-guy would get into it...yadayadayada.

I like Miami - its NY that I can't stand. For one thing they have NO lighting, and I can't help it -- I keep waiting for Gary Sinise to turn into the "bad guy" after his usual roles!

And amycat - your friend did a great job - I actually told my hubby that his character was played very well. And that's before I "knew" him -- hahaha -- as much as I could call that knowing him ;)

OMG...totally agree with you about NY - I can't stand the lighting. Its miserable. I have seen very few Speedless episodes..though I did finally catch the combo Miami /NY from last year and was pretty stoked.

is tonight new?

AXO Alum, don't worry about being mean. I took it as a compliment.

Anyway, I didn't see CSI: Miami last night. It was a repeat of one of the Speed-less episodes. I watched the second episode of CSI: Vegas on the Spike Channel instead. Anyway, I am holding out until CBS shows new Speed-less episodes to harp about how much I miss him and it's not the same w/o him.

CatStarESP4 01-04-2005 01:20 AM

Tonight, I saw the newest Speed-less episode. I still miss dearly and it is not the same without him.

Tonight's episode involved a gang shooting and a kidnapped baby.

The DVD set of the complete second season of CSI: Miami is coming out tomorrow January 4, which happens to be my birthday!

Totally agree with you!!!

I don't know but that Ryan character just doesn't "fit", IMPO. I understand that this actor had to come in and fill Rory's shoes and that must be tough, but it just doesn't work.

It's like the "team" had this chemistry and then Rory leaves and they need someone to fill the spot but this actor (can't think of his name) doesn't seem to have chemistry with the characters. It's like he was just thrown in there. Plus, what's up with the brownoser look?

I think I just need to go read some good fan fiction where Speed is still alive. :)

CatStarESP4 01-12-2005 02:15 AM

I am not sure if you have checked out CSI: Miami's official website (on CBS' website) or not. In the past, they had Tim "Speed" Speedle's stats and bio. They replaced it with Ryan Wolfe's stats and bio. I was appalled! At least honor Speed's memory with a memorial page. I have the link to the site
to check out!

I feel ya. That is wrong, IMPO.

Okay were not talking Megan, who left after maybe ten episodes. We are talking about a Character who was present for approximately 48 episodes and the show is at most 60 episodes. This is a character that people still remember because they JUST killed him off. Plus, Season 2 of Miami was just released last Tuesday.

This kind of sucks for us fan fiction writers cause now were gonna have to search for his Bio if we write anything about him.
