The Wire

I am not sure if there is already a thread dedicated to this awesome show, but are there any "The Wire" fans out there?? How did you like the season opener?? Is Mr. Idris Elba (aka: Stringer Bell) still fine or what?? :D Let me know what your thoughts are.

ykimber 09-20-2004 01:51 PM

I was so into the first season of The Wire I would stay up and watch this show. I knew all the characters and loved them all. This show is by far one of the best shows on HBO! I am sad because I missed the whole second season due to cash flow problems and no cable TV. Now they are starting the third season and I feel as if I should get cable just to watch this show! Hopefully, they release the first and second season on DVD so I can catch up.

Kimmie1913 09-20-2004 05:41 PM

Love the Wire. Watched faithfully the first 2 seasons and watched last night. You can see all of the story development going on. Since I am in B-more, they talk about it all the time and the actors say that there will be tons of action and drama so I can't wait.
And yes, Stringer Bell is f-i-n-e!

Eclipse 09-20-2004 06:28 PM

The Wire is MY SHOW! I have never been one for thugs (well, there was that time in the 11th grade...;) ) but Stringer Bell is WHOAH. That man is just FOINE!! They need to give him a love interest so I can see him with his shirt off again. LOL I was cracking up that he had them doing Robert's Rules of Order in a meeting of drug dealers! LOL I was pretty busy last night, so I missed half of it. I'll watch it again though. You know you cannot miss a minute of the Wire!

Did anyone else think the guy who was with Bodie and Poot when they brought the towers down looked like Wallace, the little runner who was going to snitch that Bodie killed? For a minute I thought it was a repeat! It was kinda spookey

1browngirl 09-20-2004 09:41 PM

I love The Wire. I actually ordered HBO just to watch the show this season. Stringer Bell is fine.... they were cracking me up in the funeral home during the meeting.

Avon is still running things.... did anyone else notice how they called a time out during the baseball game until he could clear the field?

The guy with Bodie and Poot reminded me of Wallace too.

This season is going to be good, I like how they are developing the characters from season 1 & 2, and how they keep adding to the story and connecting each of the characters in some way.

What about when Bubbs and Johnnie lost their pants and had to go turn the metal in, and they guy there was like, ya'll know ya'll don't have pants on... LOL. I hope this season they let Bubbs get straight or into rehab or something.

I want them to bring Omar back and of course Bro. Mouzon, and I can't wait until Avon figures out that Stringer had D'Angelo killed.

This season is gonna be crazy.

Cop pressing for clearance.

Elections coming up.

Towers getting knocked down.

Avon bout to be back on the street.

9pm on Sundays I will definitely be unavailable.

Cali_Keisha 09-21-2004 12:28 AM

I watched my first episode today. It is a good show, I could see myself glued to the T.V. in the future.

I think you are right, when he said back in the day you needed to provide a squad number and ol' boy was like whatever, I think dude is going to get him even though it seems as if he really doesn't want to be back in the life.

I love the Wire. I've been watching all of the previous episodes before the new season began, because I had never seen it before that. Even though I am now a serious fan of the Wire, what pulled me in was Stringper. DAYUM that man is HOT!!!!!!

I forgot about the baseball game thing! I was 1/2 watching it and when I saw that I was like wait a minute....then I CRACKED up! I don't think Avon is attractive, but his brother (in real life) Steve Harris (Eugene from the Practice) can run my bathwater any day!!

Bubbs and Johnnie need to both go some where! They do add comic relief though. That was funny!

Omar is the man! He will definately be back. Didn't Bro. Mouzon get killed??

Yeah, when Stringer finds out about D and the deal with Prop Joe it's going to be ON!

I just hate that the wire does not get the pub that shows like the Sopranos get. I think the Wire is better than the Sopranos.

I'd like for them to bring Charlene back as well.

Wonder how much they will show of the Dock people and the Greek this year?

I forgot all about Charlene.... they have to bring her back...

Omar shot Bro. Mouzon, but he didn't die. He did tell Omar that he had shot the wrong man.

Bro Mouzon is still alive. Omar called 911 after they talked about Brandon (Omar's lover)

Charlene Or Shardene? is a beautiful woman but her role was so tiny I doubt she will be back in the storyline. Even though she had a thing going with Freamon I doubt she will be a recurring character this season.

I forgot about that with Bro. Mouzon.

Yes, the name was Shardene. I didn't think they would bring her back, but I think they could expand on her relationship with Lester. There is so much other juicy stuff going on, though, I don't see how.

reddawn18 09-24-2004 04:55 PM

I love this show. Its written very smart. Its a must sit down and do nothing or miss everything show. Stringer Bell is so fine. I have him talk with his accent. It is to die for.

taylaur_2000 09-27-2004 10:05 AM

Well last nite was great in my opinion because my guy Omar is back. He is so slick with the stuff he pulls. I really can't believe they fell for that. I am so glad McNulty is looking into D'angelo's murder. It is going to make for an awesome episode if Avon ever finds out Stringer had D killed. That new kid Marlow who doesn't want to do business with Bodie is gonna catch he!l. And what about ol girl pushing up on the Lt. wasn't she the reason McNulty and his wife split???

Yes, she is a hoochie!!! I'm glad they only showed those two kissing. I had my finger on the channel button... just in case they decided to show a more detailed love scene. I could not have kept the contents in my stomach if I would have seen a love scene between those two

reddawn18 09-27-2004 09:39 PM

I enjoyed it alot last night. I love that omar is back. he's cool.

Eclipse 10-18-2004 08:56 AM

The Wire is about to be on and poppin!!! I LOVE this show!

Avon's back and it is really about to get interesting with him and Stringer. He is not going to like the fact that String is trying to be a business man. I can't believe those politicians are all up in the mix like that. I can't see Stringer and Avon both living at the end of the season. I wonder who is going to get who?

Cutty is cooler than the other side of the pillow. I love the way he speaks. I was hoping he would try to do the right thing, but I knew that wasn't going to happen.

Funniest line in the entire show:
At the "sit down" (why were they in a hotel conference room with coffee service and everything. Oh My goodness!!) when Stringer realized ol' boy was taking minutes because Robert's Rules of Order said so! I thought I was going to die laughing!!

Did I understand the previews correctly in that we will not have a show next week??? How could they do this to me?!?!?!

No Business! That had me crying laughing.

Personally, I think ya boy Marlo is going to be a forced to be reckoned with. One of my favorite quotes from Marlo:

"When I ran a shop and my numbers drop, I did some bout it. I want em off that corner. Take the youngens with you, give em a workout."

Also, this will probably be the best quote of the third season. It will be on the next episode:
(by Avon)

"I ain't no businessman like you (String). Um a gangster, I suppose. And I want my corners back!"

I agree with you. They were both great lines. I was rolling at the first one. I like Marlo. He is off the hook.

Eclipse 10-25-2004 06:14 PM

For those of you who, like me, were feening for the Wire last night, HBO is showing the first 5 episodes again this week, starting tonight on HBO2.

bobbyearl93 10-25-2004 06:42 PM

I am so ready for Avon to hit those streets hard again.
That crew of his has really been slipping.
You got guys from Avon's crew getting high out there.
You got guys from Avon's crew getting beat down by youngsters from other crews.
What's this world coming to?

Weebay, Bird, STINGam, Sorveno (spelling), and Lil Big Man would have never put up with that. Avon needs to just walk right up to Marlo and slap him in the face (like Cutty did that girl on the last episode) and say UM BACK B____! These corners belong to me...

MeezDiscreet 11-10-2004 11:41 PM

so i just started watching this show this season (and i need to figure out a way to see the first 2 seasons) and i'm really loving it.

yes, stringer is fine but i may be the minority here but i like cutty too. something about him is sexy to me, despite that tuff-azz hair.

this show is really good and i can't believe i was neglecting myself!

i do have a question: who is kentell _something_?

bobbyearl93 11-11-2004 10:50 AM

Kentell Williams is a young soldier on Avon's crew. He was in charge of the stash house that Omar tried to rip (when his girl got shot). When the season first started, Kentell dropped a lot of bodies, so the detail (Daniels) was tasked to take him down. When the drugs were moved to one place, they stop drpping bodies. Then that guy commonly known as Avon got out of that PLACE and wanted his corners back, police or no police, marlo or no marlo. So Kentell was assigned to do a hit on Marlo's crew, but the guys in the front were young and stupid. They didn't follow the advice of Cutty and Slim (who designed an intricate procedure on how to do a drive by), so Marlo's crew shot them first. Kentell barely got out of there by the skin of his ___. No one has seen him since.

I hope that helped and yes, I am a WIRE fan! :D

MeezDiscreet 11-11-2004 12:57 PM

thanks. i saw that episode. was he the guy with the locs or the older dude in the car?

bobbyearl93 11-11-2004 08:51 PM

He was the short guy with the locs, who had better have a REALLY good excuse for running when Avon:mad: catches up with him.

MeezDiscreet 11-12-2004 02:05 AM

'preciate your help bobby earl.

11-12-2004 09:01 PM

Sidenote: Did anybody recognize Cutty in that Dr Scholl's commercial where he hit the dude and was 'gellin'?

Go here http://ad-rag.com and type gellin in the search.

You can't view the commercial but you will see a snapshot.

Tonight's show was off the hook!! Oh my goodness.....I can't believe Stringer told Avon what happened to D. My heart was beating so fast during that part I thought I was going to die....

Marlo is amazing.....I can't believe he knew that was a set up. Why was Avon even in the car?? He does love the streets too much. He should have been sitting back somewhere waiting for the word to come through.

I think the writers are going to use this as a cautionary tale of what happens to old gangsters. They either turn legit like Stringer (and still playing the game, just in a different arena) or they die and someone younger come to take their place.

Tonight was the episode I had been waiting for!!! I can't believe that Stringer told Avon either!!!!! I thought Avon was going to kill him. But knowing Avon, he'll get Stringer back when he least expects it!!!

I CAN NOT wait until next Sunday. I want Breana to find out so bad that Stringer had D killed - if Avon doesn't get Stringer I think Breana is going to kill him.

bobbyearl93 11-15-2004 01:57 PM

I think Stringer added insult to injury when he slept with D's baby mamma. That was trifling. I also thought Avon was gonna clip string, too. But I saw String on the next episode, so it looks like he will be ok.

Marlo is the truth. I know my dumb ___ would have been in the hotel waiting on that DIME to come give me what she gave Marlo in his truck. I guess that's why guys like me don't last long on the WIRE.

Now String said he killed D because he was gonna roll over. I think that is only part of the story. I think he killed D to get to his woman without guilt. Because everyone knew how D felt for that girl even when she was giving him drama.

I feel ya. If you go back to season one, when they were cooking barbq plates to celebrate D beating that murder charge, String was checking out D's girl then. I expected D's girl to get with him, because she is a "dope-dealing groupie" much like the ugly chick who always rides with the lame dude who buys the cell phone WHOLESALE. I just expected more for String. He seemed too wise to make a mistake like that.

However, in String's defense, though it was convienent, Deangelo was exremely weak and there was no way in hell he could do that time. He was already getting dusted in jail every other night. It would only be a matter of time before the pressure had gotten too him. Besides, McNulty was on his way over to the jail to check on D, and you know he would have tried to flip him again. The decision to kill D (aka Fredo) was a smart move, but sleeping with his girl was bad for business. No matter how close Avon and String are, you can never trust a man who would BACKDOOR you for your ol lady.

I want my boy CUTTY to return so bad. I know if the right person brought it out of him (like the youngster who jacked him for the G-pack), he could return to the game. Avon is looking real weak right now. He doesn't have his house under control, nor does he have a firm grip on those corners. And I don't know what made Avon (with his extra small wife beater on:D) think he was gonna man handle string one on one without a gun. Avon may be the boss, but he is not in the gym.

Oh yea, I heard Wood Harris's boy "from Paid In Full" (Don't know how to spell his name - Feifer) will be appearing on the wire...
