famous minority greeks??

For recruitment at my college, I am trying to find some names of famous women of color or different backgrouns to use on a poster about "Famous Greek Women" Do you have any names I could add?

Discogoddess 09-11-2000 06:08 PM

There are a ton!

Check out the official web sites of each of the NPHC sororities:

Alpa Kappa Alpha: www.aka1908.com
Delta Sigma Theta: www.dst1913.org
Zeta Phi Beta: www.zpb1920.org
Sigma Gamma Rho: www.sgr1922.org

There is also a general reference book that details the history, purpose and accomplishments of the nine NPHC fraternities and sororities: "The Divine Nine". You can buy it through almost any bookseller, online or offline.

Yes, Alpha Chi Omega is a historically white sorority and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). It was founded on October 15, 1885, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.

If you get the chance, check out www.alphachiomega.org and www.npcwomen.org.

Oops, sorry about the earlier boo-boo.

Yes, Dr. Rice is a minority, African-American. She is the first African-American to hold the title of Provost at Stanford as well as the youngest and first female. She is very active in government and she also spoke at the 2000 Republican National Convention. Her speech was great. Sorry you missed it.

I don't think Natalie Cole is a Delta. That's my first time hearing that.

Brenda Joysmith is so sweet. I met her at our National Convention. She told me that she was a proud Honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho. She is so talented. I love what she's doing with the figurines. She's from my hometown of Memphis.

Clarence Gilyard (Jimmy Trivette of Walker: Texas Ranger) is a Sigma Chi. He wears his fraternity ring while taping the show. www.gilyard.com www.sigmachi.org

I am not sure where or when she pledged but I know she was on the NAL commission. No, she is not honorary.

Taking note of earlier comments - I'd be interested in learning about "famous" minorities who are members of NPC or IFC organizations. You don't hear much about them.
