Traditional rivalries versus teams you love to hate...
 

This can be anything-not just college. For instance, at my school (Stanford), California is our traditional rival, and as much as I LOVE it when we beat them, I love to hate other schools as well. Like U$C!!! I LOVE it when they lose, because I hate that Damn horse and Tommy Trojan and "Fight On" !!! The only thing I like about U$C is the song girls!!! ;) They are ALWAYS FINE!!! I can deal with losing to UCLA or Washington or whatever, but when we lose to either Cal or U$C, I am seriously mad!

College Basketball-HATE Arizona and Lute Olsen-Big rivals!!!

Pro Baseball-Love the Giants, HATE the Dodgers!!! But I also HATE the Yankees and their overpriced payroll as well...

Pro football-Always a Niners fan. Will always HATE the Rams (L.A., St. Louis-doesn't matter). But I HATE the Cowboys (America's team my A**).

BYU hasn't been a part of our conference for almost ten years now.

But we still hate them with a passion. But then again everyone fucking hates BYU.

In years when we don't get to play BYU, we're limited to just Fresno State and Boise State.

Yeah, we don't get much play here.

I HATE THE RED SOX. Being a die-hard Yankees fan, that just goes without saying.

I also dislike Boston College (UConn fan, Boston U. alum) for college sports. For NFL, I hate the Eagles and Dallas (I'm a Giants fan).

I HATE the University of Miami. Also, I'm not too fond of the University of Florida. That's about it in college sports.

In pro sports, the Dallas Cowboys, LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves are teams that I root against.

I have a big problem with Lakers and Dodgers' names. The last time I checked, there were not 10,000 lakes in LA. As for the Dodgers, if their fans would acknowledge that they have that team for purely racist reasons, and if they would change their name, I would harbor no ill will against that team. They should change their name because no one in LA ever dodged a trolley car to cross the street to see the Dodgers play in LA.

Atlanta enjoys the dubious distinction as the ultimate fare weather fan city. When there teams suck, they stay home in droves.

Let me get this straight. You basically insult a bunch of teams and talk about who you hate. I do the same but in one sentence. Then you try and blast me about thought-provoking commentaries. What a bunch of crock. Greekchat has improved incredibly with your contributions good sir - and I cite the posts that are irrelevant as your greatest contributions.

Don't roll your eyes either. People will think you have extra chromosomes and a nasty case of down syndrome (get it extra chromosomes?).

Now, again, California teams suck just like all MA/Boston teams.

Exactly. Especially after he knocks the greatest team in baseball ever, the Yankees. This is the team responsible for the majority of progress and upward competition in baseball. CA teams are pussies and that's that.

NFL: Raiders causeof Al Davis, the Chargers because everything about their organization, their owners , players and fans, are completely inept to what it takes to win.

MLB: Yankees....reasons that have already been listed many times.

NHL: Detriot, as an Avs fan, plus I don't know why they're called Hockeytown when I could name four Canadian cities that deserve that title more.

College Football: Miami and Florida. Plus I echo the same sentiments as OTW about the cult......FUCK BYU!

College basketball: Arizona

Soccer: Arsenal cause I'm a Man U fan

Cosign on Celtic and Rangers, only because each team is supported by a religion (Celtic is Catholic, Rangers are protestant), which makes for a brutal rivalry that always produces tension and drama.

But I'd say Boca JUniors and River Plate in Argentina is a bigger rivalry. If you've ever seen Argentine soccer fans...they're the craziest. Every goal is potential death.

OU v. Nebraska has always been a "Traditional" rivalry where there is mutual respect and great tradition.

OU v. Texas games are the best to ever go to. The game is played on a neutral site (the Cotton Bowl) and the OU and Texas seats are divided down the 50 yard line. You can always see EXACTLY where the split is. Burnt orange on one side of the aisle, crimson & cream on the other. This year, OU makes it 5 consecutive W's.

I also enjoy the rivalry that UCO in Edmond (my alma mater) has with NSU in Talequah (both cities in Oklahoma). It's bigger some years than others, but still a decent rivalry. I'm looking forward to watching UCO throttle NSU this year.

As for High School, my old HS, Bishop McGuinness had a rivalry with Bishop Kelly. Our team used to beat them every year, so they dropped us off of their schedule (after playing us every year for like 50 years). They started playing again last year and Kelly won. F-ers.

Hey now, I love the Cougars.

Detriot: calls itself Hockeytown USA - at least when they are on Canadian broadcasts :D Toronto and Montreal always debate who is "Hockeytown"... sure they have more Stanley Cups... but we got the Hall of Fame. (Besides the Habs suck)

Celtic vs Rangers: first recorded soccer riot in 1899, required the military to intervene... and always be careful how you answer the question: "Are you left or right footed?" when in Glasgow...

I love Nebraska football! It makes me sad that they suck. :(

The first Bears vs. Packers game was in 1923. It's taken awhile to build the rivalry.;)

Pitt vs. Penn State was a great rivalry for many years, including while I was at Pitt. We don't play them at the moment, but hopefully they'll get over their fear off having their blue and white butts whooped and get back on the schedule :D

Army-Navy is an incredible rivalry! I've never seen a student body as pumped up as the cadets and mids get for this game. Of course, they're brainwashed from the moment they set foot on their respective campuses, but it's still all good

The Rangers vs. Celtic abuse does not only goes between Catholic vs. Protestants. In the past, whenever a black players goes out on the field, the crowd will either make monkey noises or throw bananas at the field. I believe they have clamp down on it big time. They know have closed circuit television to monitor the fans. If any of them violate any of FIFA, UEFA or the club's rule, they will be found and ban from the stadium for life in some cases.

Hey, thanks a lot to those of you who posted something that was relevant! That's what I wanted to hear about-acutal rivalries and specific teams that you dislike, as opposed to juvenile commentary and name calling. It's nice to have some mature insights from most of you! :)

Even though I go to Elon, I was born and raised a Tar Heel fan, thus I was born and raised to hate and despise Duke. This was a bit difficult since I was also raised in Durham ;)
