Antibiotics for a Broken Heart

This weekend, I was doing some extra spring cleaning in an effort to take my mind off a very recent break-up. I won't go into details about what happened 'cause I'm trying to move on. Let's just say, I got dumped for NO warranted reason at all (unless being giving and loving, and treating the black man like a King are grounds for being dumped). To get myself in the cleaning mood, I pumped up the volume on my stereo while jamming to some of my favorite CDs.

What I've discovered is that if you're trying to get over a break-up, ANGIE STONE'S CD IS JUST WHAT YOU NEED!!! It's the for real GIRLPOWER CD!

Here are other songs that work, too--

1. Survivor (Destiny's Child)
2. After the Love (Brian McKnight)
3. Kiss Your Love Goodbye (Brian McKnight)
4. Someday (Mariah Carey)
5. Tears Ago (Rahsaan Paterson)
6. Runnin' Outta Time (Da Brat)
7. All in My Mind (Full Force)
8. All Cried Out (Allure & 112)
9. Slo'ly Surely (Jill Scott)
10. LOVE (Musiq Soulchild) My Personal Favorite

What other tunes do YOU recommend?!?!?!

Hello everyone!
It's been a good while since I have been in your shoes...

But, one's I remember listening to and recently have heard, if I were in this situation would be:

"Bitter" (the *igga version http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif) Chante Moore
"Breakdown" Mariah Carey
Any song by Sade
Share My World CD Mary J
My Life CD Mary J
Angie Stone is da bomb!
"Love Under New Management" Mikki Howard ('member her?) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Dang, I can't remember them all (I guess that's a good thing). My music is in boxes (I'm getting ready to move). If I think of others, I will come back!

Sista, keep your head up! Everything will be fine! Your sunshine is coming, and you'll be all cried out! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

korkscru 04-02-2001 07:10 PM

Just a few songs that I've listened to in the past after being dumped by a few SOME ONES that I thought was "Mr. Right". It took a few tries, but THANK GOD, I got over that creep and married a REAL MAN.

1. Last Cry by Brian McNight
2. Love Rain Down on Me by Jill Scott (but all songs on the Jill Scott CD will work).
3. Deep in My Heart by Lauren Hill
4. After the Love is Gone by Earth, Wind, and Fire
5. Change Coming/It Will Come To Pass by Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir
6. So I Creep by TLC http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif (this was my anthem when my past boyfriend cheated on me and I found out).

There are sooo many inspirational songs out there (old and new). If I think of any more, I'll hit you up. But until then, remember that you are special and that chump is really the one who's missing out!!! Stay strong Sisterfriend.

MaMaBuddha 04-02-2001 08:43 PM

stevie wonder-never dreamed you'd leave in summer
joe-all that i am
jill scott-i ain't gotta say no mo
anita baker-can we say DIVA!!! where is she?
sade-that's my girl

"Dear Diary
I remember like it was yesterday
It was October 30th
I no longer have any need for these worldly things
I wanna go where he is
I’ll follow the fire in the sky
And just like that I’ll be gone

You took my heartbeat from me
This is the saddest story
What was wrong with my love
Your took my heartbeat from me
Should have just stabbed it for me
From ashes to dust
I just wanna get along with you"

then i got my music that will get over it and move along....F*$* you!!

I would have to go with the whole damn Toni-Braxton cd...the second one, I can't remember the name. Songs like:

Don't break my heart
Find me a man

I'll be right back...I gotta do some research!

Okay, I got it now....

The name of the cd is "Secrets"
And listen in this order, it kinda takes me through the "stages" really quick.

There's No Me Without You
I Love Me Some Him
In The Late Of Night
How Could An Angel Break My Heart
Un-Break My Heart
Why Should I Care
Let It Flow - (from "Waiting To Exhale")
I Don't Want To
Find Me A Man

These are the "stages" I go through:

I feel pitiful. Then I think about how much I love him, I cry and I ask why me...again. Then I want it all undone and I feel pitiful some more.
Then I say F***k em'; I put on my dress and say F***k em'!!!
Then I eventually gets back in the game.

BE STRONG!!!

Don't forget the blues, I always gotta play Bobby Blue Bland and Etta James after a break up.

And "Vanishing" by Mariah Carey.

When I'm in vengeance mode, I play Kelis "Caught Out There" and Brownstone "Grapevyne." THAT one got me through Junior year of college.

Yes, Honey!! Toni's CD got me through a serious break up from my FIRST LOVE during college. Funny thing is HE wants ME back now after it took me almost 2 years to truly get him out of my system. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

The other CDs/Songs was SWV's 2nd CD, primarily the songs FINE TIME (that was my anthem for 2 years), What's It Gonna Be?, Love is So Amazing, Use Your Heart.

The 2nd CD was Monifah's first CD: #3 It's ALRIGHT and #11 YOU SHOULDA TOLD ME.

Mary J. Blige: My Life

Finally, FAITH EVANS: Songs #13-15, that's it and that's all.

SALIENCE, YOU TOO?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif on the GRAPEVINE, that was my song. It was my junior year and senior year #1 as well.

"It Wasn't Me" by Shaggy

No, really, "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt is a great broken heart song

The cure for your broken heart doesn't lie in song or music. Place your heart in my large hands and I'll mend it. Let your lips taste the fullness of mine and they will stop trembling, let your eyes gaze upon the wonder that is a true Omega man and they will stop crying, place your body within the strong embrace that is the embodiment of Manhood and you will never feel abandoned. Satisfy your hunger for love with a meal of dark chocolate Man who understands the yearning, passions, needs, wants, and desires of his Black Queen and you will sing a new song. Feel betta shuga?

I hope life isn't a big joke, because I don't get it.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind

the411 04-03-2001 09:30 AM

Have you heard Prince's version of "I Can't Make You Love Me"?

In my case, I'm just "Bitter" about the way the brotha handled things. If a man doesn't want to be with me, I'd hope he'd be honest, considerate, respectful and "Just Be a Man About It". There's no easy way to end a relationship with someone who loves you (Do What I Gotta Do), but there is definitely a WRONG way--he chose the latter. I am just disappointed that "We Can't Be Friends". I always prefer that my relationships end on a good note where, in time, we can put the past behind us an be platonic friends. Such is the case for three of my best male friends to date--we are like siblings now.

Luckily, there are Omegas like DoggyStyle82,whose friendships are everlasting and forever essential. Doggy, I'll be on the next flight out...

Hi All,

Reading your posts reminded me of some old relationships. But even more so, it makes me ever so thankful for the wonderful lady that is now in my life. Sisters and Brothers that are currently wondering when and if you will meet the right person know that it can happen. Just keep the faith.

Here I some of my broken heart band-aids.........

1. No Happy Holidays - Mary J. Blige http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif my favorite http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
2. Let It Flow - Toni Braxton
3. Don't Waste My Time - Mary J. Blige
4. Love - Misque
5. The Love I Never Had - Mary J. Blige
6. Not Lookin' - Mary J. Blige & K-Ci Haley
7. Put That on Everything - Brandy
8. Never Say Never - Brandy
9. Musiq-love, 143
10. When It Hurts So Bad - Lauryn Hill

I just wanted to share the lyrics from my favorite song with you all......

No Happy Holidays

I can't believe
After all this time
I'm in love with a man
Who can never be mine
And just to think
I believed one day you'd really leave
Like you said you would
Cause you don't love her
But your little girl really needs you, oh

Chorus:
Christmas you weren't with me
On New Year's Eve you were not around
Valentine came and went
Makes me wonder where your time was spent
No fireworks on the Fourth of July
Thanksgiving was another lie
Your family has never met me
And you've never met mine
No happy holiday

I got to let go of this feeling
Being with you deprives me of true love
I can't fathom living this life
Without being number one
This is finally goodbye
I pray to God you live a happy life
Cause loving you just ain't right

Chorus

I wish I had known
The situation from the start
Now it's complicated because
I gave you my heart
Honestly I held on
For my ego, my pride
But what goes around comes around
But maybe next time I'll be on the other side

As you can tell Mary J. Blige is my favorite artist because I feel exactly what she's singing about....These are only a few of my favorites.......

Why is "bitter" my CUT? Even one of my profs said to me," Why is that when I see you, that Chante Moore song comes to my head?" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif We're cool, so I just LOL.

Anywho, I just called it quits with the dating scene here, so there'll be no getting back into it. People scoff, but I really don't think my soul mate is here. Even the guys I think are nice have something serious wrong with them. I digress.

But two more songs I like are "Cool As I Am" by Dar Williams, and that song by Monifah (I think it's her) called "I Can Tell."

My picks.....

" I Will Survive" the Shantay Savage version........

"Let's just kiss and say good-bye" the Manhattens" (I may have spelled that wrong but ya'll know the song)

One of my favorites is I'll do Anything for you" by Gloria Estefan

here's a quote from the song

" I'll do anything for you....but give you up...thats what I should do....to make you happy.....I can pretend each time I see you, that I don't care and I don't need you...... and though you'll never let see me crying...I know inside I feel like dying....I hope you find someone to please you..someone who cares and really needs you...but if that someone ever hurts you...and you need a friend to turn to.....I'd still do anything for you...."

(this is deep sistasfriends...I've been there!!!)

"Ex-Factor" by Lauren Hill

"You oughta to know" by Alantis Morrisette

I probably could name a hundred more because I love music so much but last I'll put a new joint.....it's #4 on Heather Headley's CD and I believe its called "I Wish"

I hope none of my Sorors or Sistafriends needs this list right now but if so I say "*@#! em girl, he didn't deserve you anyway!"

AKA2D '91 12-16-2002 07:45 PM

I like Shantay's version as well.

Also, I liked "Anything for you." I loved the end where those "horns" were playing...

A few songs on Blu Cantrell's CD. I'm sorry, I don't know the titles, but If you have the CD, you know what I'm talking about...

CrimsonTide4 12-16-2002 07:50 PM

Blu Cantrell:

I'll Find A Way . . . . you ain't never lied BLU

Til I'm Gone

When I Needed You

Yeah Blu told the sho 2 da nuff truf.:p

What about the "Blu" song? It's kind of a pick me up when you are BLUE.

Even if she took her clothes off. She deserved more play on the radiddio. She belted out the Star Spangled Banner in "Drumline"

YEAH BLU is a Mood got slept on but it was my jam.

I thought that was her yesterday but forgot to ask, thanks for jogging my memory.

Yeah the radio was schiesty because her CD was more listener friendly than ASHANTI.

This is an old cut -- but the song is "There'll Come a Time" by Betty Everett (circa 1969):

THERE'LL COME A TIME
Betty Everett

There'll come a time in every girl's life
She'll have to cry
There'll come a time when the heart
Won't take no more
She'll have to cry, cry, cry, cry
Baby sometimes you see the rich have to cry
The poor have to cry
You got to cry
And I got to cry sometimes
I'll say it again
Rich have to cry
The poor have to cry
You got to cry
I got to cry, oh yeah

Oh love, oh love, oh love
Why you wanna go
Away and leave me here to cry
When you know I would miss you
But oh baby, if you'd please
Please come back to me
I apologize, if I ever made you cry
You see the rich have to cry
Poor have to cry
You get to cry
And I got to cry

Im_just_me 12-18-2002 09:41 PM

This song was so powerful to me when I was going through a bad break up...here it is...

It's off Mya's first cd...

"
"If You Died I Wouldn't Cry Cause You Never Loved Me Anyway"
(feat. Dru Hill)

[Verse 1:]
Mmmmmmm
Oh it hurts so bad
It started out so perfect
Something God could only create
I yearned enough for thinking of you on this special day
Never once did I take for granted
That you've been hurt before
So you treated me like a lady and even more
So I can't understand why you brought the storms into my life
Tell me why?
You destroyed every part of me
Now what once a beautiful lady
That you showered with your love
Must live with a heart that bleeds

[Chorus Dru Hill [Mya]]
I hope you never have to come this way again (This way again)
You used to be my lover and my friend (That was the end)
[Mya: ]
So please don't take offense when I say what I have to say
Cause if you died I wouldn't cry cause you never loved me any way

[Verse 2]
Promises made and secrets told
Laying nights bent in ecstasy
We made love in a bed of roses
For the universe to see
There was no holding back from each other
Both of our minds were free
We never wasted time apart
Boy it seems like eternity

So I can't understand why you brought this pain into my life
Oh tell me why
I gave you a reason to live
And you used my love in vain
So go on by yourself to survive this alone
You know you can't come back home

[Chorus]
I hope you never have to come this way again (I hope you never to come this way again)
You used to be my lover and my friend (You did you did)
[Mya: ]
So please don't take offense when I say what I have to say
If you died I wouldn't cry cause you never love me anyway
No way no way no way

[Verse 3:]
How could this be
After all the love you said we shared
You turn around and leave
Boy you know you were my heart and soul
But I can't be bad I gotta let you go
Together forever that's what we both said
I didn't know that life could be so unfair

I hope you never have to come this way again (Baby you did this to me)
You used to be my lover and my friend (You were my lover)
[Mya:]
So please don't take offense when I say what I have to say
I hope you die, I hope you die
Cause if you died I wouldn't cry cause you never love me anyway(Cause you never loved me anyway)

I hope you never have to come this way again (you never never never never never never never never)
You used to be my lover and my friend (You use to be my best friend)
You can get struck by lighting
Washed away by the sea
Burned in a fire just don't bring it back to me Cause
Cause if you died I wouldn't cry cause you never love me anyway (Cause you never loved me anyway)"
