Sdt@fsu
hey all....
if any of you gals had read my thread posted previously about religion, you already know SDT has been asked to colonize at Florida State University(thanks again to everyone who answered my q's) anyways, I just wanted everyone to know how EXCITED I am now that I have gotten the chance to meet some of the girls, and learn more about SDT. SDT has been doing PR things on campus, and they are defidently increasing awareness. I have also heard some rumors that a house was already bought.....good, right!?!!! I am especially excited about SDT because I have a bunch of leadership qualities...(HS Student Body Pres. ect.), and I feel I could really contribute to the colony. Can anyone tell me about their experiences with a leadership position in SDT? What positions can be filled, and how much do you love what you do? (or hate sometimes)? The recruitment process starts this thursday, sep. 2nd.... and I can't wait to learn more about all you classy ladies out there, and maybe one day become a sister! |
:D I am so happy to see you so excited :D
I love everything that I have done for SDT: New Memeber Ed, Ass. Rush, Historian, Alumnae, Web, Secretary, Sisterhood, and currently I am VP and Scholarship. I love it b ecause I love my sisters, and the more work you put into it, the more reqwarding it is and the more fun you have. I am not saying every second of it is fun, and I haven't cpmplained about having to do stuff, but it's worth it in the end. Good luck and keep us updated Love N Sigma's, Caryn aka Buttonz |
GONOLES, did you go? How was it?
|
Good news!!! I love SDT thus far. I went to the first informational meeting, and the philanthropy party where we made these cute kid puzzles. But it is so exciting because there are over 200 girls that are going through recruitment. They are only taking 137 or some number like that, but they are really happy that there is such an interest.
I guess in the early 80's SDT was here, but they didnt generate any interest what so ever, so all of the girls are really excited that so many want to be a part of SDT. Today I went through informal chats, and I got the chance to speak to the national president, and see her veiw of what SDT is, and what she hopes it will become, and that made me want to be a part of the org. so much more. She said that there are sororities on campus have stigmas, some are the barbie doll groups, some are the all blondes.. ect. and this is our chance for a fresh start, to carve out how we want the campus to veiw us. I LOVE THAT. I really think that SDT is rooted in something deeper than a lot of other sororities that I know of. Atleast, the girls who are coming together, and wanting to make it work find something of more intrinsic value than basing it on a sorority's reputation. Oh.. AND... all of the other sororities and frats are so supportive. There is already dinner invites and mixers in the works. There hasnt been a new sorority on campus for some time now. well i have to go get ready for the formal gathering tonight. Talk to you soon! and i'll keep you posted! |
That is very exciting that you are loving SDT. I am so happy to hear that there is a lot of ladies interested in helping bringing SDT back to FSU. I can't wait to hear more about your experience as you continue with your journey. Maybe one day, I will be calling you a sister ;)
Elena |
I am so happy to hear that you are having such a great time.
If I remeber right, tonight was Pref and tomorrow is Bid Day. I love our pref ceremony (awating anxiously till Oct 4th for ours :)). I am so excited about all of this, and it semes as you are as excited as some of us. If you do get a bid, you will see what being a Sig Delt really is.....wondrful and an exprince that I will always treasure. good luck and keep us updated! |
BID DAY!!!
I GOT A BID!
Last night was so special, it made me realize just how much SDT meant to me already, and suddenly I became very nervous that I may not be able to be a part of this if I did not get a bid. All of the sisters from across the country stood up and read poems, and told stories of why their experiences have been so significant, and tried to parlay the feeling of pride they had for passing the torch on to a new group of girls. I really can't even put it into words... like the feeling of opening yourself up and hoping that SDT would be successful, and their hope that all the girls could understand the importance of being a part of SDT. I am sure you all understand what I mean though. But I was much releived and so very thrilled to have received a bid this morning! Later today we are having our formal pledging ceremony. I feel so honored! |
Sorry to crash, but CONGRATS :D Being part of a colony is a very special thing. Make the best of it :) GOOD LUCK!
|
Sorry to crash your board... but congrats!! It's great to be a part of something new. :)
|
Sorry please add another crasher.
Congratualtions!!!!:) |
A Big Congrats
GONOLES,
Congrats sweetie. When I saw that you got a bid, I seriously got goosebumps...I am a dork, I know. I felt that way when I got my bid. I love SDT! Pref was a special night for me when I went through recruitment. Then after I was initiated, Pref took a whole new meaning. I was now telling others why I loved SDT so much and hoped that they would feel the same was I do. I can't wait for Recruitment this year so that I can experience it again. Enjoy your colonizing/pledge period. I am sure that in no time, that SDT will be part of your life, even if you don't realize it...Just by the way that you do things, etc... Keep us all updated on everything. In SDT, Elena |
YIPPIE!!!!!!!! Congrats on SIGMA DELTA TAU!!!!

Congrats!! I went through informal, but I know exactly what efcheerBB means whene she said that Pref took on a specail meaning after. The first time I saw our Pref ceremony (last fall) I almost had tears in my eyes. I am so happy for you and I am excited to get the chance to all you a sister :D

I think there is another girl who will be a charter member on GC. She posted in another thread and her name is Jenni (i don't think this gonoles)
|
"So please tell this nosy old ho:
How many women got bids? How many rushed? How diverse is the new charter class? Religion, race, ethnicity, etc (I told you I was a nosy old biddie)" we actually will not know for sure how many girls accepted bids, but 125 were extended. There were some girls who could not make it to the formal pinning ceremony, so by wednesday we shall know for sure! 235 girls rushed, or were signed up to rush and attended the first informational meeting. It was all so uncertain because they expected schedule conflicts, and were all trying to work around it all. Plus, many families wanted to be with their daughters during hurricane francis, so they took that into consideration for some no shows here and there, and like I said, they tried to work around all of the crazy schedules. The thing I love MOST about SDT is how diverse we seem to be. Honestly in the south, you tend to get the cookie cutter girls all rushing... and even the chapters have these stereotypes they recruit by. (EX: tri-delts like tall blondes.. I know this personally because where ever I go, I am asked if I am a tri-delt) But I am happy that I get to learn so much from so many different girls! There are some jewish gals, but for the most part everyone is pretty diverse in that area. There are a lot of brunettes a lot of blondes, a couple of red heads... and everything in between! So it's great! We will know all of the logistics for certain by wednesday! I know jenni! where is her thread? I think i may want to try and head up the PR chair. I have already created a press release for our up coming bowling night, just to give a heads up to the campus paper about the new girls on campus..... any other PR suggestions? |
What's Jenni's username? I don't remember anyone but Nolegirl17 goign through rush for SDT @ FSU.
GONOLES I'm happy that your happy. I love my sisters and one of the main reasons why I loe them is because they are all so diverse. Get involved early, and stay involved. That's what makes it worthwhile. Good luck and I can't wiat for more updates! :) |
Gonoles:
First - Congrats on your bid! How exciting to be part of a colonization! And congrats to SDT on a successful recruitment! Second - I noticed in your location Howell, MI. I'm originally from South Lyon! Not often I would be able to type that on a message board and have someone actually know where it is! Yay for SE Michigan! :) |
So I am dying to hear all about was is going on at SDT!! Congrats GONOLES and Jenni...and all of the new SDTs at FSU!

ELECTIONS
HMM...
I am planning on taking on a leadership role.. and the elections are taking place at our first chapter meeting on SUNDAY. I am torn between the PR chair (and PR is my major) and the Panhellenic Rep. Can anyone tell me a bit about their experiences with these positions.. or what they know about them? I have always been really great at self advertising.. so I'd be a great PR chair.. but I think that the Panhel rep. is basically a self-advertisment since it is important how the rest of the greeks on campus veiw our colony. I think I would be good at both... so *sigh* i am equally torn. any suggestions? Oh.. just to keep you all updated; we had bowling night on wednesday.. quite fun! I like a lot of the girls. SoME aren't as friendly as I would HOPE.. but I am sure it's like that with every org. much love, Cayte |
In every org your going ot have people that you get along with, and people you won't. Thats just how life is.
Panhell Rep is great because it forces you to do a lot of interacting with other Greeks, but choosethe one that you feel you will be better at :) Glad to hear that your enjoying yourself so far |

As always, you need to make the choice that your heart/fate/God/etc. leads you to, but that's my 2 cents. :) |
I am the panhel rep!
Now we have all of our executive board elected! It took us 4 hours at chapter tonight to elect ONLY the exec. offices.... but it's finally done! I am proud to say that I hold a SDT exec. office, but more importantly it is the one that I truly wanted! I think we are on our way to becoming a great foundation for future sisters at FSU! |
Congrats on getting the panhell rep!
|
Congrats on getting Panhell rep! :D
4 hours..that's short! It takes us 4 hours, if not more and we ae a small chapter! Lot's of Sig Delt luv, Caryn |
I think I can be quite the nerd. BUT I know we have been struggling a bit with keeping everyone motivated and up to date with things.... so I took some initiative and created a temporary website to let everyone feel more.... together.
wanna check it out? It needs a lot of work, but we will hopefully be getting a professional site soon, and this was the best free site that I could find. The girls seem to like it, and it has been a lot easier to get a hold of everyone. But let me know what you think, and what I can add! http://fsusigdelts.bravehost.com  |
I just wanted to say that the website looks good. Just enough information for people to know. I posted in your guestbook, so feel free to IM me whenever. Yea for your New Member/Founding term :) Good luck sweetie
Lots of Love in SDT, Elena |
Okay,
So I was looking at your guestbook and I noticed that you guys have Maria Allen as your consultant. That is so cool. She came to my chapter last year during rush. She is so cute and adorable. Tell her that the Beta Beta chapter says hello! In SDT, Elena |
maria
Maria is the cutest girl in this world! I LOVE her so so much... I will def. give her your message.
|
maria allen is our consulant as well! She is so sweet...has she shown you her southern curtsey?
~tash |
That's so cool! Maria is a serious traveller! Yeah, she has curtsied for us, she is a southern belle! She has helped us all out so much!
We just had a retreat- which we needed SO much! We had a special ceremony, that ended up being half a cry-fest! I wont get into details, but it is a lot harder colonizing than what I thought it would be! I personally cried, which made me feel so much closer to all of my sisters, so I am glad I did. We are also getting our twins in three weeks, but they are secret right now. Isnt that COOL?? Especially for a colony of our size. Maria is doing SUCH a great job, and so are all the girls. I am sure you know how the secret twin thing works, but we get to leave clue gifts once a week for our twin sis, and make all these cool traditions that will be handed down for generations! Our Pearl Program is going GREAT so far. Although I am sorry to say that about 10 more girls have dropped. It went from 136-ish to 120 right now.. which is STILL awesome because there are some sororities on campus who have been here for generations, who do not have those numbers. I was surprised to learn that! As the PH rep. I am creating some traditions as well. But I would like some more input on little things that we could do for other sororities. I have made them SDT loves XYZ posters and have offored them thanks. I have given cards, candy, and little trinkets in their mail boxes. I have started a PH princess, which I make opportunities to allow the girls to get points for attending PH things. WHat else can I do? Sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to update yall! Oh yeah, our initiation is OCT 30th! I am soooooooo happy and excited. When we get initiated, we become a forreal chapter :p WRITE ME BACK SISTERS!!! MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT, Cayte |
Seems like things are going great for all of you!! I am so happy. Yes, it always suxs when girls drop, but it happens. Many girls don't totally understand justhow diffcult being a NM is, on top of that you girls are the re-colonzing a chapter, it must be so much harder. Just keep on going as you have been.
Do you girls get any say on who you get as your twin? |
well.. as far as the twin thang goes, we were given a sheet with 4 people we would liek to get paired up with. The sisterhood chair was going to try to pair up girls this way. Say, I put jane doe as my number 1, and jane doe put me as her number 1, chances are we would get each other. BUT, I am not sure if this was just to throw us off, but there is a rumor that the picking was just random... which makes it more mysterious... who knows though. We just started a tradition that the first gift you give is a decorated teddy bear. Cute huh?
