Your national org's magazine
Hey all,
If you are an alumnae of an NPC, NIC or NPHC group that sends out a regularly produced email, are you required at all to pay to get a hard copy in the mail, like a subscription? Can you opt out of the subscription and get an e-version for free via email? Thanks! Heather |
Our lifetime subscription to the Phoenix is included in our initiation fee. We cannot "opt out" of it. The magazine is not available online or through email.

AGD just implemented Alpha Gam, Etc. -- a new online newsletter in addition to our Quarterly. Recently, the most current copy of the Quarterly has been made available for viewing through our official website.
To my knowledge, the Pledge/Initiation fees we paid as pledges included a lifetime subscription to our Quarterly. I don't know why anyone would want to cancel her hard copy subscription since it's already been paid for, but to each her own, I suppose. |
I am almost 100 percent sure that The Sphinx comes with your annual dues. Go inactive, no magazine. (I think)

TO DRAGMA is a quarterly hard-copy. The lifetime subscription is included in your initiation fee. You can view it on-line via AOII's website, but it is not sent via e-mail.
|
The Delta is our national magazine. Subscription is for life and included in your initiation fee.
|
We get a lifetime subscription to the Lyre with our initiation fees. They are working on getting the Lyre online, but I've heard they're going to keep sending out hard copies because some people don't use the internet.

ETA: I think, though, and I don't know how this works, you can pay for a subscription for like $1.50. I've seen something to that effect in very small print on the inside of the front cover, but didn't know why that would be there, since pretty much everyone who reads it is a sister. Unless you want to send a subscription to your mom or something. |
LXA, Cross and Cresent, Life Time Subscription. Comes out every other Month!
I am sure most of you know, that these Magazines are vry costly. LXA has tried to do things to cut the cost down, but has met with resistance and changed back to a certain degree. But to me, the Magazines are the life blood of keeping Alums updated. The rub comes when Alums do not Keep Their Addresses and EMails updated. The cost runs very high. So, Hint: Keep Your Hdq. updated. Might sound trite, but, there are a lot out there who dont. Who does that cost? You and me and all of the Active Chapters and Alums in the long run. It is called $$$$$$$$$$!:( |
Alpha Epsilon Pi's "The Lion" comes out quarterly and is mailed to you. It is supported from our initiation dues I believe. We are also able to look at it online in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

Delta Gamma's Anchora is mailed to members 4 times a year. It is a lifetime subscription, and it is paid for in New Member Dues.
|
The "Theta" magazine comes out quarterly and like some of the other organization is sent for life. I do believe we have the option to switch to semi-annual if we choose to, but I like getting it every quarter.
|
Phi Sig's "Sphinx" comes out twice a year (i believe) and is a lifetime subscription which is paid by your Initiation fees.
|
Our national magazine comes to us free. Major parts of it are also posted on our website.
|
The arrow is a lifetime membership paid through initiation dues, but you can also view it on the website.
|
Alpha Delta Pi's quarterly magazine, The Adelphean, is sent to all initiated members of Alpha Delta Pi, alumnae and collegian, as part of your lifetime membership (at no extra charge).

Theta Phi Alpha's "The Compass" is sent to every collegian 4 times a year and is paid for in her dues. In order to keep receiving it as an alumna, you must pay your alumnae dues each year. It is not available on the website or through e-mail, although I have heard they might be starting a new online newsletter.
|
Once you are initiated into Kappa, you start receiving The Key, Kappa's quarterly magazine. And you continue to receive it, free-of-charge, until you either resign your membership or die.

Phi Kappa Psi
The lifetime subscription fee for the Shield of Phi Kappa Psi is part of the initiation fee.

The Magazine of Sigma Chi
Well, you learn something new everyday. :p I always thought that The Magazine of Sigma Chi was free for life but it is not.

The Sigma Kappa Triangle comes out quarterly and "the annual subscription fee is $2, paid through lifetime membership." So it's paid through our initiation fees to NHQ.
|
For those of you who talk about a subscription, or what not....are you paying alumnae dues? I wonder if you don't pay those, then maybe you aren't going to get the magazine.

And no, you don't have to pay alumnae dues to get your Adelphean for the rest of your life. |
The Alpha Phi Quarterly is a quarterly hard-copy. The lifetime subscription is included in your initiation fee. You can view it on-line via Alpha Phi's website, but it is not sent via e-mail

Beta Sigma Phi's is called the Torch and I think it only comes out every month from September-June (well those are the ones I have been getting, I think)

I'm surprised that another Tridelt hasn't written in yet since all the changes going on with our magazine...
Tridelta's " The Trident" comes out four times a year use to be a lifetime subscription, now will be only delivered to collegiate members, alumni who pay dues, and LifeLoyal members. I honestly think this is a great idea... imagine the money that Tridelta will now save and the magazine will now only go to people who enjoy it. Also, think of about how many of them probably go to old addresses? That saved money can go to help struggling chapters, sisters in need, scholarships, and new chapters! I know a big part of why I went LifeLoyal after college is that I wanted to still get the Trident but I didn't know if I wanted to get active in an alumni group yet. So, it can also be a reason to get lost alumni connected to Tridelt again as well! |

In Alpha Sigma Phi, all undergrads and alumni receive a lifetime subscription to The Tomahawk of Alpha Sigma Phi as part of their initiation fees. |
The Eleusis, Chi O's mag, is provided for life to all members.
Chi Omega has no national alumnae dues (though your individual alumane chapter charges a small yearly due, and each chapter pays a small amount in chapter dues to National depending on size of the alumnae chapter). But if you are not an active member of an alumane chapter you still get The Eleusis. Therefore, you get your Eleusis regardless of monetary contribution to the fraternity as an alumna. It is now available online as well - in our members only section. Makes it nice because now I can recycle the actual mag when I'm doing reading it, but can always refer to it online for articles, names, etc. |

We also have an e-newsletter The Virtual Violet that is just for alumnae. |
Our magazine, "The Caduceus," comes out quarterly, and the subscription fees came out of our initation fee.
It's available online as well in PDF format. |
On a side note, if you've EVER seen a recent issue of Tri-Delta's Trident, it's AMAZING!! :) Jimmy (he's their designer) has done an awesome job, and it's something they should be incredibly proud of.
Delta Phi Epsilon has a similar program to Life Loyal called Lifetime Links, where you pay a one-time $250 fee, and then you never pay alumnae dues again. |
the Octagonian is published four times per the year and can also be accessed from the web site
