My dog.

I'm sure some of you recall me talking about my wonderful, fabulous, best ever, coolest dog in the world. Well, said dog is very sick and dad is putting her to sleep today. I'm a little beside myself and just looking for some support. I know I can find it here, I love you girls. :(

amycat412 08-26-2004 01:13 PM

I am sooo sorry to hear that. Your doggy will be in good company in heaven. Mr. Amycat and I have to put our dog to sleep tomorrow. :(

I'm sorry. Stay strong. :(

This is sucky. :( Hugs to everyone, especially the furry ones.

BaylorBean 08-26-2004 02:01 PM

(hugs)

Big hugs to you. My dad and step-mom had to put down both their dog and cat this past 6 months. Its hard but just remember that she is most likely suffering and this is the best thing you can do for her. Hang in there!

DA -
I'm so sorry about your wonderful dog. I'm sitting here at my computer bawling after I read your post. It's certainly like losing a member of your family and I have the upmost sympathy for you. Bigs hugs from me and just know I'm thinkin' about you and your little dog too.

DigitalAngel126 08-26-2004 08:01 PM

Thanks for the thoughts/kind words, esp from Colleenie and NP.

I left for work an hour early today so I could go see her before she was put down. She wagged her tail the whole time and just stood there with her head on my shoulder. I think she woudln't lay down because her back was hurting her too much. She just licked my face and stood with me until i had to leave. She looked so peaceful, like she knew what was going to happen. I kind of believe dogs know things like that. My dad didn't want me to go by there but I would've felt awful if I hadn't - - I feel, as I said, that dogs understand things like that - - and I didn't want her to die and feel like she'd been abandoned at some cold, lonely vet's office. It was awful, just awful.

But my dad saved her dog tags for me and even had her creamated (evidently I had mentioned wanting her ashes when I was younger).... So...

:(

Aquastar 08-26-2004 10:03 PM

Im sure she didnt feel abandoned babe. I bet she felt better because her back wasnt hurting anymore and I'm sure shes happier not in pain.

I can't imagine how hard this has been for you hon! :( I don't know what I would ever do!

SweetfaceSigmaK 08-27-2004 03:17 AM

Awww! i'm super sorry!! Just know your dog will be all better up in heaven. I know it sounds kinda odd...but i went to a psychic (a legit one...not miss cleo :) ) and she told us that my dog came through...it was a nice feeling...

Kinda random. but i hope it makes you feel better...now your wonderful doggy can watch over you.

Feel better!!

Jill1228 08-27-2004 08:47 AM

I am sorry for your loss. Hugs coming at cha! :(

DigitalAngel126 08-27-2004 01:30 PM

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog! I was beside myself for days after my dog died. And I agree, I think dogs do know more than we realize. When mine died he went right after my mom got up for work in the morning. She said she thought he waited so that he could sort of "say goodbye". That just broke my heart when she said that.
On the subject of getting a new dog I would definately wait a while. As much as you want something to fill the void, I think it might make it more painful. Having another dog around might remind you of your old dog and how it's not the same. Let your heart heal before you get attached to another dog.

i'm so sorry hon. i know how you feel. i had to put my cat down a year ago. didn't go so smoothly.
what's nice is that animals don't look at death the same way we do.
i'd say, get another dog when you feel you are ready to. some people don't waste anytime getting another, but some wait a year or so.

ps - this may sound odd, but you can get the ashes made into a pendant. they are quite beautiful, but sort of odd. just a thought.

seraphimsprite 08-30-2004 08:03 PM

I'm so sorry for your loss! My family dog of 16 years died recently and I know how hard it is.
As far as getting another dog, I wouldn't rush right out and get another dog immediately - give yourself a little time to grieve. But ultimately I think its whenever you feel ready for another dog, whether that's in one month or six.

Sister Havana 09-03-2004 01:49 PM

*bighugs* to you...

How are you doing?

DigitalAngel126 09-06-2004 11:45 AM

I'm doing alright, thank you. My dad has her ashes and collar and tags....I was going to take the tags but then he told me that he was going to give me everything (including her registration papers and stuff like that) if I'd be patient. So.... Meh.

I know it's been a month, but I just stumbled on this post today. My four year old cat passed away today, and I am beside myself. She had a seizure out of nowhere. I still have one cat, and I am worried that he is lonely. They were my buddies, and I am lost without my baby girl.
DA- I am sooo sorry about your dog, I know exactly how you feel. I take comfort knowing that while they were here on Earth they had a good lives with people who loved them. I just was wondering if you feel better about it now that a little time has passed? :(

alphaiota 10-07-2004 07:45 PM

wow, what a sudden death. i'm so sorry to hear that. you should definately think about getting another cat. and this is a good time to get a kitten if you want a kitten. breeding season is coming to an end soon.
DA - have you decided on whether or not to get another dog?

May I suggest going to a shelter? I myself have 4 cats & while they may drive me crazy at times, I love them soooo much.

alphaiota 10-07-2004 08:04 PM

that's where i get all my animals. i used to work for the humane society of greater dayton so i got plenty of shelter animals.

SigKapSundevil 10-14-2004 11:26 PM

Thanks :) I feel a lot better than I did a week ago. I am going to a the Humane Society to find a new kitten tomorrow, and I can't wait!!! The house seems empty with one cat, I think a new addition will stir up some needed excitement. Besides, I have always been a two cat person.

alphaiota 10-16-2004 10:22 PM

so i know this is a bit off topic, but i need some help concerning a dog. like i need help ASAP. do you know of anyone who is interested in an american bulldog/pit bull terrier mix? she's really really sweet, about a year old or so, seems to do well with most dogs, not housebroken yet. she was found on wandering on the side of the road in dayton. PLEASE let me know if you can help. i need to help find either a temporary home or a permanent home for her within the next couple of days. i'm willing to transport within a reasonable distance. thanks!
