What have people thought your letters spelled?

Just reading the thread about letters on your butt and a person thinking SDT's letters spelled "eat" made me wonder what words people have come up with that they thought your letters spelled?

I'll start. I have a key chain that says I heart DPhiE but in the Greek letters. I once had a girl say" What does that say~~I love earth?" I also had someone say it looked like "APE" was spelled on my chest:rolleyes:

SapphireSphinx9 08-25-2004 05:20 PM

i've heard "what's oee?" and a couple of people had said, "why are you wearing pee on your shirt??"

haha!

TheEpitome1920 08-25-2004 05:22 PM

I get "what is ZOB/ZOE"

ISUKappa 08-25-2004 05:31 PM

"What's K, K, upside-down L?"

A Random DphiE 08-25-2004 05:49 PM

"miss caro, what does the triangle, circle with the stick through it, and the e on your shirt stand for?" - one of my 3rd graders last year (i used to work in aftercare) =)

chideltjen 08-25-2004 05:56 PM

Chideltjen is a screenname I have on another board. It's not greek, so I've been referred to as Chid for short.

I've also heard "Chie" rather than "Kai." I actually a friend say "you don't pronounce chinese food 'Kai-neese food.'"

ETA: for the letters themselves... I've heard we're the X triangle sorority or the X-Change sorority. (Joke for all the math majors out there...)

We had an officer retreat a few years back where some kids came looking for the "E N" Party.

Peaches-n-Cream 08-25-2004 06:05 PM

I thought Beta Theta Pi looked like BOP.

ive heard the same exact thing

NinjaPoodle 08-25-2004 06:16 PM

Most non-greeks I encounter usually have that funny look on their face. They just ask "what sorority is that?". :)

vivalasdeltas 08-25-2004 06:32 PM

"wow, you must really like triangles!"

i coach a swim team where i wore my shirts almost everyday - all the little kids were like "I like circles more!"

Buttonz 08-25-2004 06:33 PM

EAT of course....I want to meet one Sig Delt who hasn't heard that! I've also gotten MAT from a very creative camper this summer in camp

angelove 08-25-2004 06:42 PM

Someone once me while I was wearing Pi Beta Phi letters: "Oh, do you work for HBO?"

I worked for a french company a few years ago, and apparently "ZOB" is slang for a part of the male anatomy.

LOL!!

scuthetagirl 08-25-2004 06:56 PM

KAO, pronounced "cow". Apparently, there's a computer company named KAO (apparently they made floppy disks---remember floppy disks?) and my best friend went on a tour of their factory. She felt it was important that I know this, even though she knew how to pronounce the letters.

AGDAlum 08-25-2004 06:57 PM

When I mention P.E.O. I have learned to immediately add, "and, no, I can't tell you what that means!"

I guess people think that the Alpha, Gamma, and Delta are words in themselves, not the initials of other words.

I can attest to this...I am a French teacher and I used to live there...HA! I never thought of that before.

I always get, hey what is A O 3.14? Not too original.

MeezDiscreet 08-25-2004 07:19 PM

people think it's all vowels... "What is A.E.O.?"

Xylochick216 08-25-2004 07:29 PM

Some girl on a campus tour I was giving last year asked if we had the triple-E sorority, referring to Tri-Sigma

pHiSiG cHiCkAdE 08-25-2004 09:17 PM

I've never really heard anything since Phi Sigma Sigma (in greek letters) doesn't really look like a word, but at my school those who aren't greek have asked me things along the lines of "Oh, do you know that girl.... you know the girl from the EAT sorority?" (Referring to Sigma Delta Tau). Hmmmm interesting:rolleyes: ... lol, I'm sure SDT girls hear that a lot.

Once when I was at the movies at home I was wearing my letters and as I was passing him to go the bathroom he starts shouting out "ALPHA BETA DELTA" like a cheer. He wasn't even close but alrighty then. lol.

Har, I had a girl at my first job after college do that same thing. She got the first one right but then it was downhill. :p

ShaedyKD 08-25-2004 10:27 PM

My little brother kept calling me "K Triangle" when I first joined. My ex-boyfriend used to call me a KA instead of KD because he had a bunch of KA friends at his school. You would think that he would realize that his guy friends were in Kappa Alpha Order FRATERNITY and I was in Kappa DELTA SORORITY. Duh! And the next semester he rushed Delta Tau Delta...I hope by then he figured out Greek letters and didn't think he was pledging Alpha Tau Alpha!

LuvUTrulyKKG 08-25-2004 10:29 PM

I used to have a hard time with KD and KA... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! hehe...

Knowledge1922 08-25-2004 10:39 PM

CASIGKAP 08-25-2004 11:02 PM

"AKA?? Also known as what??"

GPhiLlama 08-25-2004 11:28 PM

My chapter has gotten "ROB" a lot. So when we wear the "I love" buttons, we keep getting asked, "Who's Rob?"

Hee, that's what I always thought. I never knew Alpha Phi Omega was the initials for other words til I got initiated. :D

KillarneyRose 08-26-2004 01:18 AM

In the past, people have apparently thought my letters had something to do with Arizona.

AZ = DZ?

AOTTAdvisor 08-26-2004 09:28 AM

Kind of the same thing--
If I am not mistaken Kappa Delta has something with A O T that means something to them and it looks enough like AOII that I have had KD's come up to me when I have a shirt with AOII on it and go "ohhhh--AOII--I thought it said something else!" I've also done the same thing with them.....

AWJDZ 08-26-2004 10:01 AM

I've gotten a lot of AZ too...they always think the Delta is an A!

DawnDZ 08-26-2004 11:05 AM

My mom tells people its triangle Z. She makes it sound more like a math equation then a sorority. Its Kind of funny. I have gotten the AZ also. I am always amazed when people don't know/realize they are greek letters.

*Slight hijack*
Some years ago, I worked at a Non-profit womens self help group and 95% of the staff were women. Well, A new co-worker came to work wearing a pink top with a green blazer. The pink & green craze had not caught on back then so if you were wearing the combination, it was generally assumed you were an AKA. So I asked the woman (a black woman), "You're an AKA?" Her reply ""Yes, I'm also known as ME!" So I smiled and said "Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.? When did you cross?" The look she gave me was priceless. "Ummm, I'm not in a sorority."

Yeah...All righty then....
*End hijack*

BSUPhiSig'92 08-26-2004 03:04 PM

A few years ago at our activities fair at the beginning of the year, this student, who I later found out was our resident....
umm... person with significant psychological issues. Came up and asked me why the Greek letters didn't spell words. Like CAT and BAG. I explained to him that the letters all had deeper symbolism and meaning, but uh-uh, he wasn't going for that. He started demanding to know why they didn't spell words, and going off on how stupid he thought it was that they didn't spell them! He then started yelling it, and wouldn't leave, so I had to grab a campus security officer to escort him away! In the meantime, all of our fraternity men were laughing their asses off, because when he started asking them they said, "We don't know, but go ask our Greek Advisor, he'll know why."

I've head the OEEEEE thing before.
My friend Joe likes to make a joke out of it. Haha.

AOIIsilver 08-26-2004 03:26 PM

"Hmmmm...AOII= Alpha Omega Pi"....Which then is quickly followed by..."Isn't that the sorority that Christina Ricci is in during the movie Pumpkin?"

What truly amazes me are OTHER GREEKS who do not know appropriate Greek letters!
