Label Junkie??

Why did I see a woman who was Louie'd (Louis Vuitton for the slow folks) out?? She had on a Louie scarf, purse, her jeans had the design on the back pockets and her shoes had Louie on them. WHY??

Now granted I have a thing for Baby Phat jeans but that's an extreme.

Rudey 08-25-2004 12:53 PM

Isn't that just with a lot of bootleg stuff? Because I know Gucci doesn't make special edition Timberlands.

valkyrie 08-25-2004 12:54 PM

Yikes! I wonder how much of her ensemble was fake. I've never heard of LV jeans.

I love Louis as much as the next girl, but that's taking it way too far. ONE ITEM is enough at a time -- maybe two on occasion, but just yikes.

TheEpitome1920 08-25-2004 12:59 PM

Times like that I wish I had a camera phone. But this bootleggin' has gotten out of control.

It has, but when you see celebrities with it, it's bound to spread to the masses. For instance, I've seen Shaq wear fake Burberry plaid.

well i gotta tell you about a girl i saw in wal-mart the other week. now, for starters, von dutch is soooo played. this girl had on the hat, the shirt, jeans with a HUGE logo on the ass, and a big vinyl purse with a HUGE logo on it. and the way she was strutting around WAL-MART, had you told her she didn't look cute you would have had to fight her!! it wasn't cute, it wasn't sexy and it wasn't fashionable!!! actually, it pissed me off because she had no respect for me, as part of the general public. why did she have to subject me to such an eyesore???

TheEpitome1920 08-25-2004 01:26 PM

*raises hand* what is Von Dutch?

Lady Pi Phi 08-25-2004 01:35 PM

You don't see a lot of Von Dutch around here, but those trucker hats HAVE GOT TO GO!

There was a girl who rode the bus every morning (highschool, haven't seen her since summer vacation) and she would wear her stupid Von Dutch trucker hat every day. I think they are so ugly I wanted to rip it off her head and throw it out the window.

I remember a few years ago, when I was living in the DC area, I was waitressing and the table had a bunch of rude azzed folx. One girl had a "Versace" dress. I knew I was getting screwed on the tip so I stepped to her and was like....
"hmmmm, that is news to me....I didn't know K-Mart made Versace!" :p

I was good and ready for a street fight! :p

HotDamnImAPhiMu 08-25-2004 01:56 PM

HAHAHA. I know EXACTLY what you mean.

Jill, where'd you waitress?

For TheEpitome1920: Von Dork, I mean Dutch

In addition to my Govt job, I worked as a server at Bennigan's! :)

I read an article somewhere talking about the proliferation of bootlegging and how it's cheapened the owning of even the real thing. There was also a side bar telling how to tell the real deal from the fakes. I personally would feel really tacky carrying a bag/wearing an item that was a knock-off. Louis Vuitton bags aren't really cute, but it's the name that makes them sellable. If you buy a fake you're copping out.

Then again, I'm not much of a label shopper. I don't care if it's a $3000 Versace dress; if it doesn't look good on me, I wouldn't buy it. Not to mention I don't have three grand to be throwing aroudn these days. :(

Rudey 08-25-2004 05:36 PM

This is why I'm looking into buying a Patek and not a Rolex. Poor people constantly make my life difficult :(

I think the people who can REALLY afford to wear LV and the such have the pieces that don't have the logos on them...

IowaStatePhiPsi 08-25-2004 09:15 PM

people that pay boo-koo bucks for clothes are stupid. They dont last any longer than regular clothes- and some even less or go out of fashion and thus cannot be worn while still good.

Jealous much?

IowaStatePhiPsi 08-25-2004 09:22 PM

not at all- just dont see the point in being a billboard for corporate america or buying into ad ploys.

Peaches-n-Cream 08-25-2004 09:48 PM

Patek watches are nice.

I'm not a label junkie, but I see them in this neighborhood constantly. They wear the authentic designer labels and not the fakes. My neighbors have LV dog carriers to match their bags and luggage. It's too much, but it's real. I did see a nice red Rolls Royce parked across the street and a black Rolls Royce parked around the corner when I went out to dinner tonight. Meanwhile, I have a Metrocard for the subway.

Lady Pi Phi 08-26-2004 10:51 AM

I hate labels. Yeah I'm poor, so that's part of the reason. I don't have the kind of money to be throwing around buying LV bags, and Versace dresses. But even if I did, I would probably only buy designer handbags...because those can last you forever when your $5000 dollar pants go out of style in a week.

I have a fake Prada bag. I know it's fake, I'm happy it's fake. I don't try to pass it off as the real thing, I will shout it from the rooftops that it's fake. My brother bought it for me a gag gift when he went to NYC a few weekends ago. He bought it off a street vendor.

Taualumna 08-26-2004 11:02 AM

Unless the logo is actually showing, how would an untrained eye really know that it is the ACTUAL label? Stores like Zara and H&M often sell lookalikes in terms of clothing. Of course, it's different when it comes to bags. For me, I'd only buy bags and items I KNOW will last a long time (classic suits and dresses), if I had the $$$$$

Good grief, this took serious balls.

I would have paid for tickets to this little event.

Some people are VERY serious about labels and can spot a brand a mile away. It's scary. Especially with shoes that are known for a particular shape/style.

norcalchick 08-26-2004 09:22 PM

I'm not exactly a label junkie, I just like nice things. I don't buy any of it though because I am not about to spend $500 on a pair of shoes, or $300 on a pair of jeans. The only thing I have is a LV purse and I love it!

I can NOT stand fake stuff. Especially the obvious fake purses. I don't know why people would buy those.

Munchkin03 08-26-2004 10:34 PM

Louis Vuitton does not make do-rags.

That is all.

PoohsHoneyBee 08-27-2004 04:34 PM

My bf is a dealer for cell phones and wanted to buy LV face plates at wholesale. How ridiculous is that! Anyway, he did not do it.

I'm thinking of replacing my cousins LV purse for her birthday. It's falling apart. The straps are cracking and the zipper fell off. She has to open and close with the tips of her fingers. Fakes arn't too expensive...or are they?

By the way, she will not admit it is fake. But, I want to be nice and get her a better looking one.

Beaucoup? Anyway, nicer clothes are worth it, they do last longer, and they feel better because they have better thread counts, and they are cut better, etc...

but what do I know, I just work retail? :p
