wearing your letters on your rear?
I've noticed this twice in the last week at Iowa State- sorority girls wearing their GLO's letters on the rear of their shorts...
to me it just doesn't seem appropriate. What's the thought on this? |
I HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT
To me your letters should never be on ur ass. I see a few girls on my campus with the bootie letters and its not cute to me.. |
i have NO problems with that :)
|
I think it's cool.
Whatever it's not your sorority or letters. -Rudey |
I would never wear my letters below my waist.
|
I would never wear letters there, just because you're supposed to respect your letters, not sit on them!
I seem to remember reading on here somewhere when someone saw a Sigma Delta Tau girl wearing the butt shorts and thought it said EAT. Whoops. ;) |
Would never wear letters on my azz but would wear it going down my leg or written down my leg saying Alpha Phi Omega.

I think it's tacky and shows disrespect for the organization.

co-sign with measi.
we actually have a clause in our constitution prohibiting the wearing of letters on your butt. we also have rules on the color of the letters on apparel. our colors are white and gold and the gold ALWAYS has to be touching the white. and that's it. no variations allowed. |

Not to be nosy, just didn't quite understand. |
If other people want to wear letters on their butts, that's their business, but you wouldn't catch me doing it!!!
|
So if you saw your sister/brother wearing letters on their butt would you say anything?
|
no prob Senusret I.
the color of the fabric of the greek letters has to be a. gold by itself but then the gold must touch white. so the shirt has to be white. you cant get gold only letters on a khaki shirt or any other colored shirt. now if you get the iron on greek letters, or the stitched on ones, you can get gold and white together, (at least at our greek store you can). usually we get the gold fabric with white stitching and then you can put that on whatever shirt / jacket etc color you want. does that make sense? here are some examples... blue shirt with letters, white shirt with letters, black shirt with letters http://home.comcast.net/~ambicion6/2.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~ambicion6/1.jpg |
It's not my preference, either. If I did it would be strictly around-the-house pants, not going-out-in-public pants. But I'm not going to chide those who do.
At least they're wearing clothes and not some hootchie mama outfit. |
I say those are definitely a no-no. I feel like it shows disrespect to your organization and the letters if you do it, but whatever, to each her own. What bothers me even more than pants or shorts with letters on the butt is thongs  that have letters on the frontal area. Joe Toga even makes "sorority granny panties."

I think it is a no-no. Ditto with GLO tissues.
|
Those aren't really big here, but I wouldn't wear them if they were. I think it's tacky. Same with tissues and toilet paper, you wipe your nose/butt with your letters? No.
|
Regardless of whether or not its ok / disrespectful.....i wouldnt do it because I wouldnt want more attention drawn to my big butt!!!
|
I think they are very disrespectul, enough for me to lose my position over. My chapter had bought sweatpants with the letters on the butt, which I chose not to get. Well then we had more new members come in, and they really wanted these pants. The only problem was that I was the purchasing person for that year and I refused to order them. I told everyone where they could get them but I would not be the one placing the order. It got to be so bad that I finally just stepped down from the position, cause I refused to by stuff that was disrespectful to our letters.
|
What about the flip-flops that imprint your letters when you walk? Doesn't that mean that you and others are walking on your letters? Our chapter used to forbid writing letters in wet cement - never mind that it's tacky and vandalism-like, but we didn't want people stepping on our letters.

I wouldn't do it. I saw someone wear letters on her butt, and it didn't look respectful or flattering. I saw someone wear letters down her leg on the thigh. That looked okay. I remember someone said that she thought it looked ridiculous, and everyone agreed.

As long as there is demand, manfacturers will make these things.
Meanwhile, to those individuals who are against them, hold fast to your principles and lead by example. ETA: I actually worked with a chapter in SoCal that put an addendum into the bylaws specifying what was letter-appropriate and what was not. "Butt Letters" were outlawed. |

Back on topic, no, no, no, and no. No stitch letters on the behind. Imagine organizations with 3 characters, and having the middle character split by, well, the crack. Not an appealing idea whatsoever. |
I had a pair of shorts with my letters across the back- I wore them on spring break while i was a collegian and at the lake with my family- with bathing suits. i always got complimented on them and my sisters got some too- i gave them to my friend that was an active because they dont look the same on me anymore (i grew an ass).
I guess I am just disrespectful, but honestly I dont see the problem. ive seen letters in way worse places- my pet peeve are people that drink alcohol in letters- have some freaking respect- nothing uglier than a drunk fraternity or sorority person with letters making an ass of themselves. |
Down the side of the leg? Yeah, I am cool with that
But on the butt or the "kitty" (ie lettered thongs) HELL NO! Sorry ya don't sit or fart on your letters! :p |
I definitely wouldn't do it, because I think it's tacky. The only thing that is ok with me is letters on the leg. I have a pair of scrub pants that say "Property of Delta Gamma" on the front upper leg area, and pair of soffee shorts with the greek DG on it.

I don't know.. I have a pair of black pants with teal letters outlined in white that I bought to wear during SJ sharks games AT HOME.. I don't actually wear them out but a lot of my sisters do.. it's pretty popular with my sisters at my chapter.. but my best friend an AoII is forbidden from wearing them.. I understand where both sides are coming from.. I DO have a pair but they're my lounge pants..

I mean... what other reason for wearing letters on one's butt is there but to draw attention to it? |
Trust me, that is one of the last places where I want to draw attention to! I got a pair of shorts from ebay and was pissed to find out that they had letters on the butt :(

I just think letters (AND CREST, which I did see on a thong!) on your butt are disrespectful. |
It's a shame to see that there are orgs that actually devote time and energy to such a trivial thing. There are always things that would benefit more from the time and energy of the organization.
But I don't really care how a person wears their letters as long as they wear them. Members never wearing their letters would be a bigger issue with me. |
I wouldn't consider the appropriate use of my letters a trivial thing. I think its an issue of respect, but NPC orgs and NPHC/Latino orgs often see things differently when it comes to earning your letters.
