ToGGLeCaSe
I didn't want to hijack the "Colors" thread, so I was just curious as to what y'all thought about ToGGLeCaSe...y0u Kn0w, TyPiNG LiKe ThIs.
I'll admit, when I first started playing around on the 'net wayyyy back when AOL was in version 2.0 I used to type in togglecase...as a friggin' 15-16 year old! I thought I was so cool. And then as years passed by and I started learning the odds and ends of 'netiquette, I learned that togglecase was frowned upon because it's "juvenile" and it was looked down on. Most of the time people won't take your content seriously aLL BeCaUsE y0U'Re TyPiNg LyK ThIs... If it's improper to TYPE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT INDICATES THAT YOU'RE SHOUTING, then I think togglecase should be considered improper too, not really for the juvenile factor, but because it's a friggin' eyesore. There's nothing cute about it, really. But that's just what I think. Don't flame me for being honest. KThXBi. |
I understand that typing in tOgGlE is common in some Asian American communities. I don't think it's all that big in Canada though.

I always found it irritating as it is a pain to read as well as juvenile. It must make typing a chore.
|
it's people holding on to a shitty fad from the rave scene of the late 90's.
(IMO) |
I never knew that was called togglecase. I just called it "annoying middleschooler type"
I didn't know about the all caps being shouting, either. That's pretty interesting! |

I really can't take anything seriously if it's written that way and it's annoying to even read it.

oh that was fun to type. |
I always think people who use togglecase have some sort of seizure disorder in their little fingers that makes them hit the shift key too often. I really can't take anyone seriously or view them as an even semi-educated individual if they write that way.
|
i think people who type that way have too much time on their hands
|
like, shut up you guys, it's cool like whoa
|
I keep thinking that maybe, if I read just the uppercase or just the lowercase and rearrange the letters using my Little Orphan Annie decoder ring, it'll spell out something cool, like who's going to win the World Series.
|
On one board I belong to, using toggle case will get you a swift banning. Other irritating message board behaviors like netspeak will also get you banned. Overall, I like he policy, and there are days when I wish GC would adopt similar ones. ...

Alright sweety for the record- I know the reason behind this thread is because of the sheer stupidity created because of my username. And I never wrote like that in any single post, so I don't understand why people have their panties all in a bunch. I just like having my username look this way b/c I personally think it's cute and more interesting then having it plainly written out as: Phisigchikade.
Uptight like woah. |
Toggle case is annoying and it screams "Hey I'm 13 years old! Wheeee!"
It was really popular w/ my little sister's group of friends about 4 or 5 years ago. I'm glad it stopped. |
|
Typing sentences in all togglecase annoys me, just because I don't like having to focus so hard to decipher what the heck is being said. It's similar to people with really poor spelling where I have to spend time guessing what the words are supposed to be. But that's just me.
WhiteDaisy128 - Your photos make me laugh...even if I don't know who Herb Sendek is. (I'm hoping he's a basketball coach somewhere and not a back up dancer for Britney Spears :) ) |

Lyk OMG, you should lyk, grow up! :D ;) :p |
i'm too lazy to type in togglecase. lower case is much easier.
|
i honestly didnt know that someone's screen name can get a bunch of people so uptight. seriously seeing a whole post in toggle is gaaaay but a sn in toggle is nothing. i dont see why people make a big deal out of something that is clearly so minor.

YOU DON'T. Figure it out. |
I hate seeing togglecase. When I do, I usually think it's some 13 year old.

While togglecase and kewl are dying slow, painful deaths, may I suggest that we add "u" for you, "r" for are and "2" for too and/or to into the pot of boiling acid? Thanx. ;)

I'm a firm believer that when using things like, say, text messages where character space is limited, "u", "r", and "2" is ok and acceptable. Just because space is limited and sometimes your thumb gets tired from texting and such. Hi, thumb blisters. I'll admit, I am a grammar nazi. |
