Rollergirl2001's recruitment story
August 23
I'm completely finished with my application for my sorority. All I have to do is to get $75 of $80 dollars for my application fee. If I've decided to turn it in before Saturday, then it's $75. After that, then it's $80. I might turn it in on Monday if I don't get my money on time this week. I'm so nervous about this, but I've have a feeling that I'll be fine. On Saturday, I'm going shopping for the huge week. Recruitment at The University of Memphis will be on September 6-10. The sororities are: Alpha Delta Pi Alpha Gamma Delta Delta Gamma Kappa Delta Phi Mu Pi Beta Phi Sigma Kappa I will use these names (taken from The Baby Sitters Club) to rename the story: Claudia Mallory Jessi Kristy Dawn Stacey Mary Anne I will keep an update on this story. |
Good luck and I love your names, I used to read those books by the dozen when I was about 12! Blast from the past! :)
|
The Baby Sitters Club rules! Long live them!
|
I LOVED the Baby Sitters Club books growing up! My favorite was the vacation one where everyone went on a cruise and then to Disney World! How fun would that have been to go on vacation with your best friends!
Oh Wait.... you can do that with your sisters! Case in point- Spring Break of junior year. We didn't go on a cruise, but we had a great time in Colorado! Good luck finding a home with sisters you can vacation with! |
Baby-sitters club rocks!!!
|
Good luck! Love the BSC names :D Man, I should get mine out of the basement for fun....
|
Let me jump on the good luck train and send best wishes your way to begin your recruitment experience. And I also agree, the BSC names are wonderful (I used to read those books within an hour! :D)
And adpi*nurse, I'm so bummed I didn't get to go with you guys on that trip! :( :) |

Am I the only one who hasn't read the Babysitter Club books? Am I that old?? ~sigh~ Back in my day it was Nancy Drew. Now, if you had named the houses Nancy, Beth, George and Mrs. Gruen then I'd be psyched! |

I went shopping for my rush clothes. Tommorrow, I'm going to the Color me Greek festival. It is when I get to witness a mock recruitment party, meet sorority women, and have a social. |
a mock recruitment party? what an awesome idea!! that has to take a lot of the "what should I expect??" pressure off the PNMs!
good luck, rollergirl! |

Last night, I've received an e-mail from another member of GC. Her name is Susannah and she will go through recruitment with me at the University of Memphis. I was so glad that I will know someone before recruitment. I've gave her my e-mail address so I can get in touch. I feel that I have made up for lost things for not attending either the Open House or the Color Me Greek festival. If it weren't for her, then I would be lost. Today, I've sent my application, my photo, my resume, and my $80 to the Greek Affairs office. There was this girl at the front office that asked me that if I was sure about knowing the difference between councils "Stoneybrook" and "New York", and I said that I was positive that I know the difference. Next, I read the big Greek Life booklet. I've read that during recruitment, the PNM will have dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse (a fancy restaurant). I think that it is a very cool and nice place to have dinner. They didn't say the date of the dinner, but I bet that the dinner will be on Pref Night. But I could be wrong. |
We had lunch/dinner at a local restaurant while bid matching was being completed!

Best of luck to you. Its such a great time. Spag House is a great place to eat! I know I was so excited when I went through so much going on and so much to learn. Take it all in and dont get too upset if oyu cant remember everything, I know I sure didnt. Make sure to look over the sororities and think of any questions you may possibly have. Go in with a open mind and a open heart and really pay attention to how people treat you and talk to you. I know I felt at home just in talking with the first person I talked to and it only got better from there. I made sure to pick the house I loved based on how I felt with the girls and not let anything else cloud my decision. Best of luck hon. Soon recruitment will offically start and youll be even closer to getting your new sisters :)
Also just a piece of advice, use your Recruitment counselor(s) to help you at anytime. I know I asked them so many questions and really talked to them about anything I was uncomfortable with. They are always so helpful. :) |

AXO Jen - You are not the only one who did not read the Babysitter Club books! They are a little behind my time too! I read Nancy Drew too, and have passed all the hardbacks down to my oldest daughter! She is getting all into them now!
Best of luck Rollergirl during your recruitment! I hope you find the perfect sitter! |
From one sista to another, good luck :)

How rude! I can't believe someone even said that! Oh well. Try not to let it influence your rush experience. Keep your mind open to all possibilities. Blessings, adpi*nurse |

Hey guys, sorry I didn't write yesterday. But here's my story...
Day 1 September 6 The day started out with check in. I found my seat and I've found my GC pal. The WPC VP of recruitment welcomed us and went over a few of the rules, like no talking to sorority members outside of recruitment. Next, the Greek Affairs advisor went over hazing and alcohol. She said NO hazing and NO alcohol. After that, we went goups with our Gamma Chis. My Gamma Chi, "Charlotte" gave me my folder to hold my brochures from the sororities. She went over the rules in more detail. Then, we itroduce ourselves and we did an icebreaker. For the icebreaker, we pulled an M&M and answer a question according to the color, like favorite movie, or singer, and the like. I pulled a blue and the question was, "Who is your favorite singer?" and I answered Shania Twain because she is a good singer. After that, we waited until the first party. Then, we headed to the first party, Kristy. The sisters were clapping and cheering and leading people to seats. The room was all white. After all people were in the room, we were seated and I started talking to the sisters. In the middle of the party, the sisters of Kristy showed us the video about the sorority. After the video, I talked some more about myself, like my major, where I'm from and the like. Next, it was Dawn. The room was decorated like a baby shower for a girl. One of the sisters gave us a nice brochure that is folded and tied up in a white ribbon, which I really, really like. Then, I talked to the sisters about the same thing like I did with the other group. The same thing happened with the other groups (in order of parties): Stacey, Mary Anne, Claudia, Mallory, and Jessi. We had dinner after I visit the Mary Anne. We had Domino's Pizza for dinner. After dinner, my group had an hour break. During the break, we watch movies. After the break, I went to the Claudia, Mallory, and Jessi's parties. Same thing of talking about ourselves. As far as the rooms are concerned, Stacey's room was heavenly, Mary Anne's room was full of t-shirts of the past, Claudia's room was filled with golden popcorn (with a buttery smell), Mallory's room was with a video wall, and Jessi's room filled with yellow and pink tables. After the party, wen went to our Gamma Chi's and filled out the evaluations about the day and talked about what will happen tommorrow. After that, the Gamma Chi's gave us our Philantrophy Day t-shirts and the room numbers for tommorrow. END OF DAY 1 |
