KurtBuschFan's Rush Thread

I've been lurking on the boards for awhile now, and decided to post my rush story. My rush begins on Saturday. I will be using the nicknames as follows for the sororities on my campus:

Columbia
Discovery
Atlantis
Challenger
Endeavour
Enterprise
Explorer
NASA

As you can probably tell, I'm using a NASA theme, in honor of the Space Crew of the Columbia. All of the names listed above, besides NASA and Explorer are the names of all of the Space Shuttles ever created by NASA.

Ok enough of my babble about my nicknames!

I will update you all as I can, there should not be an update until Sunday however, since rush doesn't start until Saturday!

Have a blast during recruitment! I can't wait to see how things turn out for you!

KurtBuschFan 08-21-2004 12:26 PM

I decided to post today before I leave to go to rush this morning! Things are going well, I feel good today, but not cocky! This is probably for the best. I know that I have the chance to get cut from all chapters, however, I also know that I could get kept by several. I'm going in with an open mind, and an open heart and am out to enjoy myself. I'll post an update as to how I feel today went tonight when I get in, and then tomorrow when I get my invites/cuts back. Talk to you all soon!

Day 1

Well, day one is over for me! It feels good to be sitting down without my sandals on! My feet are killing me! Anyway, I promised to write about today's experience when I got home, so here I go!

Columbia -- This has to be my one of my top favorites. The girls were so sweet and kind, but I know that my GPA is about a eighth of a point too low, so I will probably get cut, but a girl can hope!
Discovery -- This is also one of my top favorites. The girls were awesome, and so sweet. Plus, I already have several friends in this group. I also know that while grades are obviously important to them, I still have a chance, as they are more likely to give me a chance over most of the groups!
Atlantis -- My other top favorite group, these are great girls, and I have so much in common with many of them. I could be totally be happy here, but I kinda got different answers about their GPA requirement, so I'm not sure where I stand with these girls.
Challenger -- This group of girls were really sweet and I had some friends in here too. I really had a great time with them, and could see myself here, but due to circumstances beyond their control, their grade requirements have changed and I don't really know where I stand here either.
Endeavour -- These girls were wonderful, and so sweet, but I kinda felt out of place. I would not be against going back and taking another shot at it however, because they were my party right after dinner, so I think possibly that had something to do with it!
Enterprise -- These girls were really sweet, and had some girls who were really interesting. I did talk to the president of this group and she was wonderful. When I said I had a minor in political science, they started getting on politic topics so I'm not sure where I stand here either, either by the conversation or in my GPA, as they would not give me a straight answer as to what their requirement is. I would not be adverse about going back however, as they were great girls.
Explorer -- My second to least favorite. The girls were really sweet, but all seemed to be too much alike. Also, they didn't even have a clue as to what their GPA requirement is, and their guesses were above the GPA that I have, so I won't be too hurt if I'm cut. I did have good conversations with the girls, even though it was my last party of the night.
NASA -- My least favorite group, I didn't really feel comfortable with the girls, plus I know my GPA is too low, so I know I will most likely get cut, and I'm honestly not that torn up about it!

Overall the day wasn't bad, I had a good time and met a lot of great girls. But I have to look at it in a way, that I have done everything I can reasonably do with my grades and to show who I am, so now I can only wait and see, and keep in mind that it's not the end of the world.

I will know tomorrow between 10 and 10:30 what my outcome is for tomorrow's round, so I'll post when I find out! Talk to you all then!

Invitations

Ok, I just got my phone call from my rho chi, and I had the biggest surprise of my life...

The only group I got invited back to was NASA, the group I felt the least comfortable with, plus didn't think I had the grades to even get past first cuts, and I was told that grade cuts were last night.

I am going back today, even though I said that I would probably cut them if I had to, and I am keeping an open mind and open heart. I have a better feeling about them today, since apparently they liked me enough to keep me through grade cuts!

Talk to you tonight, when I get back from philanthropy night!

KurtBuschFan

WhiteDaisy128 08-22-2004 10:26 AM

Hey hun! You have the perfect attitude for this! Congrats on getting invited back to NASA! Sometimes things happen for odd reasons! Keep your chin up and keep playing the game! I'm so glad you are keeping such an open mind! Good luck!

aephi alum 08-22-2004 11:32 AM

I'm sorry to hear you got cut so heavily... but have fun at NASA... :)

pinkyphimu 08-22-2004 11:56 AM

have fun tonight! i am sorry you got cut, but i am glad that you are giving nasa a chance! you might find something you didn't see last night.

:)

mmcat 08-22-2004 01:47 PM

have fun tonight...see what's going on and perhaps things will make some sense.
good luck to you.

astroAPhi 08-22-2004 03:35 PM

Well, if it makes you feel any better, it sounds like the reason you were cut was grades. So don't feel that the girls didn't like you.

If things don't work out with NASA tonight, are these groups allowed to give out COBs to girls with lower GPAs? I was reading in some other threads that GPA requirements might change after FR, but I'm not sure if this applies to your school.

And I LOVE the space theme! In case you couldn't tell by my username, I'm a big space geek!

SmartBlondeGPhB 08-22-2004 04:13 PM

It does appear it was grades which you can always work on for a year to get up higher and try again.

texas*princess 08-22-2004 05:28 PM

I hope you had a great time @ NASA !!! I agree with White Daisy on this -- you have a great attitude going into this :)

KappaKittyCat 08-22-2004 06:12 PM

I don't usually respond to rush threads, but...

Can I just say that I think it's a little odd that nobody here had a clear idea of what the houses' minimum GPA requirements were? That's one of the things that we always drilled before recruitment (from the sister side) so there would be no discrepancies. Also, shouldn't all PNMs receive a booklet containing basic info about each house, including GPA requirements? Or am I just being silly?

BTW, KurtBuschFan, cheers for giving NASA a try. If it doesn't work out, take this term to pull your grades up and then give informal a go next semester.

KurtBuschFan 08-22-2004 09:51 PM

Day 2 Update

Well, night two is over, so I'm here to update!

Things went decently well this evening, I did have fun. We did a philanthropy project as well as looked over pictures, awards and finances. I do feel more at home with the girls after tonight, but am still unsure about tomorrow. From what my rho chi told me, NASA did do grade cuts last night, but she isn't 100% sure. She said "according to what we've been told "NASA" did grade cuts last night"...if this is the case, then I feel really good about how tonight went and about being invited back tomorrow, however, if grade cuts have not been done at NASA then I won't be invited back. Although, again, I come upon the same problem that I had with other chapters, that I don't really have a clear idea as to what the GPA requirement is. I have been told 3 different numbers, so I'm kinda clueless there. But overall it wasn't a bad night, and I could see myself fitting in with the NASA girls.

As for the grade requirement for COB, I'm honestly not even sure what the deal is there.

I will talk to my rho chi tomorrow morning, somewhere between 10:30 and 11:30, so I'll update when I know more.

Thanks for listening!

KurtBuschFan, I think you have a wonderful attitude! It does seem strange that the grade requirements weren't posted prior to Recruitment, but if that was the problem, look at it this way: you have the control of your sorority destiny! I know that, when we had to cut someone for grades, and they came back with a good increase, we thought all the more of her.

Good luck, and keep that soaring attitude!!

pinkyphimu 08-22-2004 10:17 PM

it does seem strange that no one...not even the rho chis know the grade requirement....sounds like the recruitment coordinator didn't do their jobs. the good news is that you had fun at nasa! we will keep our fingers crossed for you!

:)

Buttonz 08-22-2004 11:01 PM

Seems like your enjoying NASA! ::crosses fingers and sends good luck vibes::

hang in there....and just see what happens.
we're with you.

Got Cut

Well, I got cut from NASA. But I am registered for COR which starts next monday. I will probably do that, but I know that the reason I got cut had to be grades. I am sad, but basically saw it coming. I'm not getting discouraged however, as I will go through COR and go through informal next spring, since I have an entire semester to bring my grades up. Also, next spring, I should have the GPA I need to pledge the group I originally wanted to, and have been told I would've had a bid last spring if it wasn't for my grades...oh well enough of me for now, I'm gonna go...I'm also not going to reveal my school or chapter nicknames yet, as I am still going to go through open recuritment

talk to you all later! Thanks for all of the support!

I admire your positive outlook, and completely respect your decision to keep your campus and the organizations *under wraps* for now. I hope you'll continue to hang around GC, and maybe we can share in your COR experience as you work on improving your grades!

Good luck! :)

mmcat 08-23-2004 11:22 PM

take a break, but don't go away...
see what happens and come back.
we are here for you.

I agree.

Have a great semester and good luck:)

CatStarESP4 08-30-2004 03:02 AM

I am sorry to hear that NASA cut you.

However, I am glad that you are going through with COR and possibly Informal recruitment. Good luck and have fun!

ADPiAkron 08-30-2004 06:47 PM

COR started today-- any news??

ADPiShannan 08-30-2004 06:58 PM

Def good luck hon. I know a few girls who this happened to and it still hurt. The good thing, its grades the hurt you, so if COR doesnt work out, focus on getting great grades and go into spring recruitment with the same AWESOME attitude. So many sororities fight with grades every year. You want certain girls so bad, but the grades are what makes you cut them and let me tell you, its horrible for them. Many girls fall in love with the girls going through and its so hard to have to cut them cause of grades. Best of luck and no matter what, dont give up. Itll happen and youll be with the sorority you love in no time.

(42 Jamie McMurray all the way, just had to add that since I am a DIE HARD Nascar fan :) )

KurtBuschFan 09-05-2004 02:20 PM

Hey All! Thought I would post to keep you guys up to date as to what is going on. I haven't seen anything about any COR events, although I have been on the look out. We do have a several sororities that are not PH, and I am looking at them, although I don't know if it's what I want or not, considering I know I can get my grades to where I want them and probably have a great chance at getting a bid to my first choice, which is Columbia! I'm sticking to my nicknames for the time being, as I know there are people from my school on here! I can't bring up my GPA high enough to meet NASA's requirement, but can at least get to where most of them would give me somewhat of a chance with the GPA. So that's where things stand with me for now. I hate to type and run, but work calls, plus a pile of homework too! Talk to you all laters!

KurtBuschFan

And for all the NASCAR fans out there, I'm a major Casey Atwood Fan, but since he's not in Nextel, I had to find a new man to watch! :)
