Gannon University |
This is the first time in years Elon hasn't made the list :(
|
I always heard UT-Austin's scene was pretty weak.
|
SUNY at Albany is the #1 party school, which is where I was going to go (had a full ride, too!) but decided on a smaller, more tame school.
I sent the link to my mom and she replied that I should have gone there so I wasn't a bad influence on everyone here.:( |
I am surprised IU did not make that list.
|
What? No University of Washington or Washington State? This is BS!
|
I would assume it's based on the # of greeks in correlation with the # of students. For instance, Bucknell is a small school, but nearly half of them are Greek, so it gets a better ranking.
|
This list is NOT based on anything quantitative. Princeton Review passes out surveys at campus locations and the results are based on the ones that are filled out and turned in. It's not scientific or even random, and at good-sized schools they may get surveys back from one-tenth of one-percent of the student body.
In other words, it's entirely likely the DePauw students who happened to fill this survey were a bunch of DKEs who gave their system a 10 out of 10 (let's say), while the W&L students, whose school is Greeker than FAMU or Bucknell by any measure, happened to include a couple of angry GDIs so the system got an average score of 9 out of 10. |

As a sidebar, someone on Clarion's message board was upset about a very negative review of the school on one of those ranking sites. I pointed out that since Penn State and Penn State University were being interpreted on this site as two different schools it probably wasn't too reliable. |
best greek schools?
based on forty plus years observing and over 300 campuses visited, not to speak of reading various mags and ratings...
I find no one has a clue.. this has never been defined. and lots of them, like U of CO, are hardly what many would call a party school....there are so very many small private schools where greek % is high, but perhaps throwing up on the Beta lawn or pissing on the Pike porch is not..you get the picture. it is more than likely a personal matter as to which school is the best for greeks and/or parties. musical chairs, losing houses, kicked off campus for who-knows-what, all have a bearing on the profile. Criteria for selection are lacking, and perhaps it is just as well, as being so-ranked is the kiss of death for some. and, the scene changes quickly even in those cited. Just my two cents. |
Miami University dropped off the list? i'm sad.
|
Uf :)
I would have to say UF has a good greek seen.. Good girls and guys,,, Part of the reason I go to UF for the greek scene
|
Ah EC, remember in the good old days When Pittsburg State was rated one year with the big boys for parteeee'.
I know We Set the Year of The Kegs for St. Pattys day for the country at The Huddle! 365, 1 for each day of the year. Green Kegs ran out in 45 Min. Princeton Review, hell, they are become pusses! Live on reputation only! Ivy Leauge, my butt, is that not like poision ivy or something? |
Funny everyone always comes out and says they're school belongs. Obviously if all your schools were the best party/greek/transexual schools then you would all share the number one spot. Also these rankings can change quickly because schools hate it and will try to avoid the party listing and I bet much of the partying can be tied to greek life.
-Rudey --But in America many of you choose a school based on partying instead of academics so this may be a great guide. |

Rudey, Rudey, so true.
Acidameians, School Head Honchos Hate it when they are placed in Partee' School areas.:( OMG, We are Here To Teach these pople, Not To Party! Learning by books is not the only scene in College! Hello, Earth Calling! One must be well rounded, a book worm is still a worm. |
Unsurprisingly, my school made the list yet again. As IvySpice noted, I'm a little surprised we weren't any higher than past years, but whatever. We'll probably always be on the list. Go us.
Washington and Lee = top in Greek life |
My school will never be on the list. Which is fine by me!
|
top frat
gotta be Zeta Psi, Nebraska Wesleyan
|
I was EXTREMELY surprised that U Alabama didn't make the party school list nor Greek list.
|
WVU will probably always make the party list, but more than likely the greek system will never be rated in the top ten.

But thanks for being mean anyway. |

I wasn't being mean, just critiquing a poorly designed site. First, the main university site directs folks to the GL site for information, then they make it very difficult to GET that information. After all, not everyone in the world has Microsoft Office or a program that reads it. The information in the documents is very generic and could be posted to the site, making it accessible for everyone. Maybe if students could easily find out about Greek Life on your campus, they might be more tempted to get involved. |
alphagam, I don't think PT was implying YOU were responsible for the site's lameness.
The Greek Life links to stuff you have to download, but you can find profiles of each sorority & rush info through a panhel link under clubs & orgs. Starang, maybe the women aren't snooty, maybe it's just you. :D :D :D I'm just playing. |

As far as letting them get online and see what greek life is about, most of the students on campus don't have internet right now because of new anti-virus software that they're making us all install into our PCs, so right now that's not much of an issue, and most of the individual chapters have their own websites, which we are working with each other right now on to get linked to one another. Also, we've been giving freshmen tours of campus, making ourselves available for them to ask questions while doing the service of showing them around and tips for survival on campus, so really Gannon's main greek life website (that hasn't been updated for almost 4 years) is not one of our major concerns. To be honest, all I tried to say that attacking how "lame" my school's website is is really uncalled for, considering I had been making a joke about how small our greek system is on my campus. I actually like it that way, considering there are only a few hundred greeks on campus between all the chapters. It's nice, because I know most of them by first and last name, and I think that even though we have a small system we're one of the better connected greek systems that I've heard of, with no major rivalries and a willingness to work together. If, by making a joke, I need to "grow up" then I would be happy not to. |
