We've all been there, and most of us would have come up short when we needed something. I thought we could help out New Members and PNMs alike by listing some of the items that every Greek woman seems to need. I'll start with:

Black dress
Black shoes
White dress
White shoes
Slips for the above (if needed)
Coffee maker filters
GreekChat membership...

breath mints- rush, must have
classy, tasteful business/careerwear- to wear your badge with
Enough letters to wear for at least 2 weeks straight without running out

A lettered tote bag- still working on this one!

COFFEE MAKER FILTERS?????

Uh....ok...clue me in...

is it just that I am not a coffee drinker here or did I miss something during new member orientation?

Ok...got the letters for two weeks...and I am almost 25 years after rush..er recruitment! How cool is that? Got the tote...well actually 4 of them.

PLANNER ...co-sign on that one!!! I became the planner queen during my collegiate days...a skill I *still* use with much success even now.

Coffee filters are an awesome thing to have around during rush since they blot the sweat from your face without taking off your makeup. Like those Clean & Clear things they make, just a lot cheaper. :D

I would have never thought about coffe filters doing that.!!! How did you ever come up with that idea!!!! I love it! I am definatly giong to keep that in mind for this year's recritment!

I also think so essentals for recritment would be:

-deoderant (sp?)
-chap stick/ lip gloss (one of our TLC's thought it was essential and it rubbed off on me)
-postive attitudes and of course open minds...

As a sorority girl I have found that these are essential:
-lots of shirts that support your org.
-a lettered tote bag
-tissues (for all the tears of joy you'll have and when you have to say good-bye to the seniors that leave)
-Pin Wear (nice clothes to ware your badge in)... that is all I can think of for now

And we can't forget a camera! ;)

Several pairs of black pants and nice evening tank tops and button down classy shirts.

Also a BUDGET that she will stick to.

Being surrounded by sisters in college, it was so easy to give in to peer pressure to go shopping and buy outfits I didn't need...................

every classy lady needs pearls...they are timeless

a great purse and heels

Patience, an open mind not only through recruitment, but through your life, and the ability to delegate :)

Oh yeah, and a palm pilot is GREAT!

Black dress and comfortable black shoes
White dress (buy now, there may not be any available come initiation time ;) )
Black pants, khakis, jeans, lettered shirts, a plain solid colored shirt or two... these seem to be staples for recruitment
Nice outfits to wear with your badge
...which brings me to, a badge (duh)
NON-lettered stuff to wear when rush rules forbid you from displaying your affiliation (e.g. during work week, or if you are a rho chi)
Pearls (about 27 of them ;) - seriously, a strand of pearls and a pair of pearl earrings is very classy)
A Palm Pilot or other organizer
A camera
An open mind
Patience
The ability to listen

It is important that you have the ability to function on 3 hours of sleep to survive recruitment. : )

ROTFL!!!! I thought of these after I went to bed last night!!

These ideas are awesome!! And yes, the coffee filters are for "glowing" hot faces. How about:

-A lavalier for everyday
-Throat lozenges for singing hours on end!
-The ability to work all night on a Homecoming Float and still maintain a 3.0 average!

(well at least it's important at my chapter...)

I could go about a month... which is ridiculous when I have about an inch of space for clothes in the house!

Class-- as in remember to be a lady... and also remember that while sorority life is fun, it should never come before school, the reason you are in college!

Love this topic! How about...

...courtesy and manners, especially when you're in a housed chapter and cohabitating with a zillion other women.

...undies appropriate for your outfit. Hint--a peek-a-boo thong is NEVER appropriate with business casual wear! For that matter, neither is a teeny-top that rides up and shows off your big ol' back tatoo when you're sitting down.

One key thing I think some Sorority girls need is CLASS!!!

I love some sororities on our campus more than other because of the CLASS factor... My big sis' sorority is full of classy girls that know how to have fun at the right times...

There are others that are just not classy at all...

Class is very attractive in a girl! :)

Also, if you have a white and black dress, WHY NOT A WHITE AND BLACK THONG? :D :eek:

oooooooooooooo i learned somethin!!

I had to laugh at this post. In relation to this topic, I've seen so many women who wear a size 14+++ pour themselves into size 5 or 3 pants and shirts (especially at mixers). This never looks cute and especially not classy. I go back and forth in my weight gain and really tight clothes are never becoming for sorority girls unless you are blessed with a size negative 0...................

now im a crazy person and im hardly serious so dont kill me for this lol...

well what a greek girl needs is any type of birth control and we all know why...

Recently discovered: having a sorority pen/notepad can open up conversations in the strangest of places!

Did anyone else list:
*Emery boards
*CLEAN hair! Which brings to mind:
*A good hair stylist
*A bathrobe which properly closes!
*Breath mints (gum doesn't look "collegiate")
*Scrapbooks and/frames for memorable photos...

How about successful completion of a Self Defence Course?
It's not a "thing", but it will save your life!

To add:

*A lavaliere
*A smile that looks great even after a full day of rush parties.
*The spunk and energy to smile and do cheers for 8 rounds in a row without losing your energy :)
* A mental catalog of every one of your chapters' favorite cheers, available for any moment that calls for one (i.e. COR, big/lil night).

This is worth repeating!!

* A sense of humor to ignore all the people out there who talk trash about your chapter but are secretly jealous :)

loud music
the ability to get dirty/sweaty/smelly and not freak about it
a good pair of black pants (or pinstripe)
a nice fitted button down shirt
sensible heels (who cares if they're cute if you can't walk in them?)
seamless underwear
at least one dress in the color (s) of your sorority (I have a blue one and a red/black one)

I'm all for it, but it's not "PC".

Yes, I am a member of the NRA, and I've graduated from their Personal Protection Course (which, btw, emphasizes many methods other than using a gun to protect yourself!).

a pair of black heeled boots is a must too...can go with almost anything
