utexasgirl's recruitment story!

Hi yall!

I will be going through University of Texas recruitment. Recruitment begins August 18th and goes until August 24th. The schedule is as follows:

August 18th - Orientation Convocation
August 19th - Open House (14 events)
August 20th - Convocation 2, Convocation 3, Period 1 (4 events)
August 21st - Period 1 continued (4 events)
August 22nd - Convocation 4, Convocation 5, Period 2 (5 events)
August 23rd - Convocation 6, Convocation 7, Period 3 (3 events), Preferential Convocation
August 24th - Bid Day!

There are 14 NPC-affiliated sororities on campus and they are:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau
Zeta Tau Alpha

I'll be using a texas theme to identify the sororities (aka all the names are texas state symbols, things associated with texas, etc). And here they are in absolutely no particular order:

Bluebonnet
Longhorn
Mockingbird
Lonestar
Armadillo
Cactus
Jalapeno
Pecan
Chili
Rodeo
Bluetopaz
Alamo
Cowgirl
Friendship

Just to let yall know - I realize that a lot of people read these boards and that not everyone who reads is registered (I was an exlurker!). I would really, really like to keep an anonymous status. So from time to time, I might change a few details about myself, my day, or some other random thing. Hopefully I can keep my true identity a secret ;) I also know that UT's recruitment is highly competitive but I've been getting ready for awhile now.

That said, I am truly looking forward to recruitment! I would love to hear any advice that you girls have for me, especially in regards to UT's recruitment!

-utexasgirl

**Also, silence began August 11th so I will not be conversing back and forth with anyone...if I don't respond to a pm, that's why. I don't want to break any rules! I just want to post my story for everyone to read and enjoy.**

Wow yall, thanks so much for your support and encouragement! I'm glad yall like my Texas theme.

I actually have a question for everyone. Should I wear hose underneath any skirts that I wear during recruitment? I'm not sure if this is a custom at UT or not, but the thought crossed my mind today so I thought it would be a good idea to ask.

Thanks again for everyone's positive comments!!

my personal opinion....would be no. others may think differently, but being from texas and knowing the heat, i would say no. maybe on pref night, but i don't think it is necessary the other days.

just my opinion :)

adpiucf 08-16-2004 09:05 PM

That's a great question for your recruitment counselor.

Buttonz 08-16-2004 09:15 PM

A thread with an SDT chapter! Awsome! :D Good luck finding your home :). I love the theme!

ADPiZXalum 08-16-2004 09:28 PM

One of my best friends was an AXiD at UT!! I've visited the ADPi house there a couple of times, and they are so sweet, there are a couple of them from Corpus! OH!! And the greek advisor there is awesome!! She used to be a TCC (Traveling Chapter Consultant) for ADPi when I was a collegiate and she stayed with me. I hope you find a great home in a fabulous greek system!! Any house on that campus would be spectacular to join!
Oh funny story.......not 100% sure if it's true, but OH WELL, it's FUNNY!! This guy at UT was invited to the Kite and Key formal (not sure if it was by a Kappa or Theta) and his date for some reason couldn't go last minute, but he already had a tux........so he asked a friend of his to crash the party with him.............she was neither a Kappa or a Theta!! So they went and had fun and all the Kappas thought she was a Theta, all the Thetas thought she was a Kappa. HAHA that's funny...........probably not 100% true..............:D

Hey again yall!

My recruitment begins tomorrow, I am very excited.

Orientation is tomorrow at 7 pm. We are supposed to get our tshirts for open house and also meet our rho chis. How exciting! It's also really exciting to see so many texans on here ;) I went and had my nails & toes done today, my hair blown out, and all that great beauty stuff. Hopefully I can squeeze in a massage tomorrow because I'm starting to feel a little bit stressed out!!

I'll keep yall updated with what happens!

mmcat 08-18-2004 08:02 AM

keep smiling...stay as dry as you can (given the odd weather)...and have a blast.

Lil_ChiO_Lady 08-18-2004 03:05 PM

Good Luck and have fun! You have an awesome choice of groups to choose from.

utexasgirl 08-19-2004 12:41 AM

Hey yall-

Today we had recruitment orientation, the girls who organized it did a really good job!

The Panhellenic board gave some speeches on recruitment rules, basic information, and other things. There was also a really cute skit that they did. After that, everyone split up into their recruitment groups - each group has 2 or 3 rho chis. We were given our t-shirts for tomorrow, a plastic baggie to carry our things around in, and an information packet. All of the girls in my group seem really sweet, and the rho chis are all very friendly!

Tomorrow is open house. It begins at 9.30 am and consists of each pnm visiting all 14 houses for 45 minutes each. I'm really looking forward to it!

ASUADPi 08-19-2004 09:01 AM

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!

Recruitment "officially" starts today, so I hope you have a wonderful time and find your home!!!!!!

12mom3 08-19-2004 04:20 PM

Good Luck utexasgirl!!!

My daughter is going through rush at UT also. I have been waiting all day wondering how it is going, but they go from 9:30 this morning until 7:15 tonight, so I won't hear from her until after that. Have a great time and remember to enjoy yourself!!!
