Fall Rush 2004
I wanted to update this fall rush thread because rush is about to start for many schools in a week or two and I want brothers to keep us informed how their rush went.
I am very excited, this is my last fall rush as an active undergraduate and I believe we are going to get a great class this year, we are very pumped up are pre rush parties were great. Overall, I hope everyone kicks butt during rush, lets increase our numbers and bring in the most quality associates possible. |
Ryan, that is Great.
I just got off of the Phone with The High Alpha. We have 5 solids and will be having a Recruit BBQ Sat. at the House. Invitees only of course!:) Sounds like we will have a pretty decenent Alum turn out also. Shows that LXA is Not for just 4-5 Years! They are shooting at 10 or more which will triple the size of the Chapter. Good Luck Brothers, May We Grow and Prosper!:D |
my rush starts tomorrow....who knows where I'll end up?
|
Hey W, let me know what is going on as We talked today, Tues!:)
Just got back from The Alum, Monthly Gathering! Later W. Good Luck and Hope it works!!!!!!! I am also Pulling on my end!:) |

WNG,
Took me awhile to find your posts (didn't see it at the top of the page at first), but liked your observations. Very detailed. Please let us know how it goes. Well, it's 12:01am here by my clock - so - Happy Birthday!!! Jono |
UTSA and UIW are both involved with dorm move in today. UIW is on a defered rush and the guys think that means they need to ignore the 3,500 upperclassmen.
Thats not going to happen, as long as I'm High Pi. |
lifesaver, you are the man Bro.
Brothers at PSU, Ks., are doing that also. But, we are in Fall Rush. Spring is a lot more laid back, more like open recruitment. Give My Brothers Raymond and Gid my very best. Oh, Iced Gold was setting at our table with Illya and Lexi the night of the Hypnotist. E. Was.:) OOps my bad, W. Mich. |
Wow I have been taking rushees out during the day time and night for the past week. I have done activities such as tubing down a river, playing basketball, doing keg stands and helping them get books for as cheap as possible. I looked at the rush list saw where guys were from, schools they went to and so forth and just started calling. I was like oh this guy is from Hilton Head, cool I will call him and so I did. There is always risk doing something like this but after a few phone conversation you find out what someone is like, this guy was really cool and did not know anyone on campus.
Finally!!!! rush starts tommorrow, I hope it keeps pouring in Knoxville tonight so it rains out the ATO band party, our biggest rivals during rush {most like our fraternity at UT}. I will keep you updated. |
So how are things going with everyone else. UMBC has move-in for freshmen on saturday and the guys are planning to kick things off in force. the campus is having a carnival thing for all the new students and we are the only GLO allowed to work an event(dunk booth and an info table). not too bad. i'll let you know how things go.
|
I'd hope those keg stands had nothing to do with Rush since we are supposed to have dry rushing.
|
its fine they were kegs of root beer:D

EM zeta now has 31 AMs. This is our largest class in 10 years. Most of us are now wondering how initiation is going to go. If you have any experience initiating a class this large, please PM me.

As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for..... Great job there, good luck!

This rush was ridiculously huge, 800 people went into rush, 720-750 signed their bids, which is more than LSU and many other SEC schools. We got 33 rushees soon to be associates, the quality is VERY GOOD but the size is ok because many fraternities got more guys than we did and we lost about 8 guys the last day of rush we could have had. I know it is hard to believe 33 is ok but Sigma Chi got 49, ATO got 41, Pike 45 and Phi Sig and Kappa Sig got 41, we don't usually lose out to Phi Sig, ATO and Kappa Sig and we lost a lot of guys on last second decisions.
I am proud of our fraternity because we worked very hard and did everything legally, we our off probation and have so much to look forward to, last year was a nightmare. I also know five guys that wanted to sign but are going to wait until spring rush, so we are really looking forward to spring rush becuase we have one rush off probation under our belts and a lot of cool guys waiting to join. The good thing is a lot of these fraternities haze the crap out of their kids and they will all quit very soon so they will have numbers in the mid thirities in a month. Like I said this was very competitive, we spent an incredible amount of money on this rush and some fraternities did some illegal and ruthless crap to get guys at the end. Sig Ep got 45 guys, five of them had never seen their fraternity until the last night of rush and they signed with them the next morning, we found out two of them were offered 2,000 dollar scholarships, two guys that told us they were sold on us. I think that is like paying for football players. Sig Ep's chapter is around 140 people and growing, they are like a sorority, they have no brotherhood and I cannot stand those materialistic, superficial group of guys. They gave out 100 bids and only signed 45, that is horrible. Overall, rush is a battle and things happen on the battlefield, this is the time were fraternities try to sell themselves and differentiate the most from other chapters. Hopefully we will get over all the crap they talked about our fraternity and the lies they perpetuated but I highly doubt it because they really tried to screw us, especially saying we were still on probation. To the brothers from our chapters at Florida and Kentucky, congratulations on the great classes. I recommended staying on these kids early and being very good to them the first three weeks, give them a date party early or a mixer and let them have fun the first two band parties, FOOTBALLL GAMES TOO. They will quit if you give them too many rules and chores the first week, be careful because you might have a lot now but sometimes it is a domino effect when it comes to quitting. If you can keep these guys past the first three weeks they usually develop a bond with their associate class and have too much pressure to leave, believe me we are going to go through the same thing at UT. I was associate rush chair two years ago we had 51 associates and initiated 41, it was hard. Overall, we have very close to 90 brothers if not 90 and we hope to initiate all the guys, realistically around 27 because a few will probaly leave. By next spring we want to be around 100 guys and stay there from now on, because we think that number is perfect at UT to be competitive and to have a great brotherhood at the same time. I hope everyone does well at rush and get as many guys as possible because it brings up our numbers. I have a very busy semester and will not be on much more, so everyone have a good fall, get our numbers up and watch the VOLS kick butt this year with a fresh. qb. PS WE ARE GOING TO KICK FLORIDA'S ASS IN KNOXVILLE THEY ARE SO OVERRATED. |
That is awsome! i can only hope for the day that we can say that. i didn't make it up to school last weekend for move in but this is what i've heard so far.
Saturday was move in for all freshmen, the chapter did a lot of dorm storming, ran a dunking booth with a info table at the move in carinval during the day. the school had a night event so we piggy backed on that and then had a dodgeball game afterwords which drew 150 freshmen. Sunday was cookout and football, things to keep meeting people. Not sure about yesterday but i know there was a going greek at umbc meeting for everyone interested in greek life and i know we had a couple brothers talked and have our letters out there. Tonight is a casino night and the majority of the dealers are brothers so hopefully things go well. I'll let you know how things turn out when i find out. |
I think the SEC chapters need to start some kind of competition. I know we used to have one with Ga. Tech in the 70's. Have some rotating trophy to the SEC champions or something.
PS can you PM me with your phi's email address so I can talk to him. THANKS AND ZAX EM1843 |
Yea I will give you our phi's e-mail address next time I talk to him, we are making a new contact list that should be ready next week.
That would be a contest because I think the SEC schools have the most people go greek, it doesn't mean SEC chapters are better or anything but the only conference that comes close in numbers is the BIG 12, having large numbers of greeks and a lot of people that rush. I can verify that because I am from Chapel Hill, and the average fraternity at UNC is 50-60, Lambda Chi Alpha is one of the biggest chapters at UNC if not the biggest but they tend to have large classes, large classes are not a priority at UNC, quality and tradition is. NC State and Duke, the average classes are 10-14 people. Florida State gets bigger classes and the greek scene there is a lot like SEC schools, our chapter is huge at FSU. We have some big chapters in the SEC: Auburn, UGA, LSU, UT, Arkansas, Florida. I know UK just got a good class, 21 guys or so, we had a brother from UK come up for initation last spring. I really wish we had a chapter at Ole Miss, in my opinion the most pro greek administration, best greek traditions and overall best greek school in the country. I talked to an ELC a few years ago and he said you need to have 80 people to start a chapter there it is so competitive, I knew most chapters had over 120 people at Ole Miss. I am just blabbing but that would be cool to start an award it just sucks because a lot of schools greek administrations our different, some put fraternities on probation left and right like UT's, Arkansas and LSU for small offenses, this can really hurt the numbers that rush for that given year and who knows what a chapter could have done with recruitment numbers on an even playing level. PS I just stopped by the house andfound out a couple kids signed bids but held them until the spring{very common here}, so we have 30 guys, so you guys beat us by one, congratulations. |
Its my understanding that UT-San Antonio will sign between 20-30 AM's. Thats what I am hearing anyway. I am going to the Alumni BBQ tomorrow. They wont know how many will sign until Tuesday or so.
UIW is in recruitment right now, however they are on a defered rush. They will extend bids on Tuesday. Even though I am the advisor, I cant hazzard a guess. I am not sure enough in their recruitment capabilities or guesses yet, since this is their first rush ever. UTSA, they've been doing this for years, so when they say 20-30, I am pretty sure they will get it. UIW's goal is 12. That would bring them to approx 40 men. |
UT-San Antonio extended 34 bids. They expect to sign 30 guys.
The Pref Dinner was cool and they have a good group of diverse guys. We'll know by about wednesday or so how many are gonna sign. |
gamma chi.... u of ark.... 41
|
Yea, I think we might have a winner!
LX Z has as of Sun 4 NA and 2 who are committed =6. \\ Must remember, we are in a membership crunch at the present time. But all members of the House Corp felt really good for the first time in a long time about the upswing that is coming back to LX Z! Hey except for BN who went through 2 HurryCains what can they do but dig in and give the Windy Stuff Hell and Keep going as I have heard that they are doing!:) |
Yeah Tom we are doing fine here. We associated 6 men on friday and there are about 10 more that are about to accept. It was tough with the first hurricane cancelling rush, watermelon bust and a party and the second hurricane postponing our indentured servant auction to a time yet to be determined. I would only assume that they would have accepted if they could have seen what we are all about during rush, but they will see when we do NAFD at the end of the month. By the way, we have school on satudays until nov 13th and we lost our fall break. Yeah it sucks but we have to remember that things are acheived "naught without labor". Oh, I almost forgot, it looks like we might be getting a house come January!!!!!!!!
|
Zach, say what???? House????
Sounds good on Recritment considering HurryCaines that Yall went through!:) Give My Very Best To All Of the BN Bros at FIT! Drink one for Me at The Shroom! For Sure Z!:D |
Yeah the house is in the early stages but our main obstacles, like the administration are on our side. Right now it is being remodeled by the professor that owns it. The professor is also a very well liked, well respected and overall nice person to do business with. He was very excited that we were interested in leasing the house and he said he would give us a break on rent. Also our housing chair has set up a damn good comittee to help him in this process. If we don't miss something somewhere (and I dont think the brothers involved will), we should be moving in come the spring semester!!!!!
|
THAT IS AWESOME! I'll be happy for you guys when you get a house.
Don't remember if I posted it or not, but UF had 30, now 27 AMs. We will be initiating Nov 5 if anyone would like to visit... |
i am from Lambda Iota Zeta and we gave 16 bids out two weeks ago. The great part is that they are all real solid guys.
|
Well 9 AMs went through the AM Ceremony here at UofT... we will see how many make it to I (usually one or two drop because of marks and/or time commitments).
|
Phi-Delta Zeta at UMBC is associating 10 guys on sunday. pretty good semester for us.
|
our formal rush begins next tuesday. Bid day is Friday!
|
We got 21 new AMs down here at Embry Riddle. Like, Florida Tech, Riddle got hit pretty hard by the hurricanes, and our semester's schedule was shot to ****. Although, all things considered I am very pleased with our rush. This is our largest AM class since our current seniors came through.
