Hey, financing is available! I wonder if they'd accept lay-a-way.

Jill1228 08-15-2004 11:19 PM

I was just looking at it and drooling! Damn I need to hit the lotto! I just hope that tyoregon does not get it! :(

Lazy Phi

It's a beauty. I hope a lucky lady or chapter will be the winning bidder. They do not make quality pieces like this today.

Good luck!

valkyrie 08-16-2004 04:06 PM

Oh my. If I had any $$$ I'd be all over that one. That is the most gorgeous badge I've ever seen.

IheartAphi 08-16-2004 04:46 PM

That is beautiful, I love the old fashioned badges!!!!!

How did the lazy phi originate? I hope this was not something I learned and forgot.

There is someone on ebay that sells a lot of old lithograms of Alpha Phi badge

Maharet 08-17-2004 04:49 PM

Lazy Phi

This is one Alpha Phi badge tyoregon DIDN'T GET....Because I DID !!!

My hands are still shaking and I am in near tears. Best thing yet is that my birthstone is emerald.:)

I am giddy with excitement and thrilled to pieces. And it couldn't have come at better time than now in my life...

Have a terrific week all...

Maharet J.

midwesterngirl 08-17-2004 05:00 PM

Wow! :) Congratulations on your purchase.

pinkyphimu 08-17-2004 05:09 PM

that pin is absolutely positively beautiful!!! i stared at the picture with my mouth open....maharet, i am so glad that you were able to purchase that badge and keep it in alpha phi. it is too beautiful to be in the hands of some random collector.

enjoy! when it arrives...you should take lots of pics of yourself wearing it and post for everyone to see! :)

Maharet 08-17-2004 05:26 PM

Lazy Phi Pin

Thanks so much...I have to admit, I broke down sobbing I was so happy...I am in a state of shock. It is WAY more than I wanted to spend, but I cannot let opportunities like this pass me by. I learned a long time ago to seize the moment and 'just do it' if you are able...This was one of those moments. And while my other phi pins are special, this one is just as special...Next to my wedding ring and a few pieces of my grandmother's jewelry, this will be the most cherished.

My heart is still racing.

J. aka Maharet

bruinaphi 08-17-2004 07:08 PM

Wow! That's really exciting. Congratulations! I am so happy it stayed in the Alpha Phi family. Some of us were putting together a pool to buy it but I am happy to see it go to you J.

Congratulations!! (and hopefully someday it will go back to Phi - along with my antique pin...)

OMG, your loyalty never ceases to amaze me! Better go up your homeowners insurance policy.

Jill1228 08-17-2004 11:55 PM

Ok after spitting water all over the computer screen, I gotta say congrats to you J! You rock! We want a pix of you wearing the hell outta it!

Boy I would kill to laugh in Tyoregon's face about right now! yes I am evil!

a CA in CA 08-18-2004 12:17 AM

...careful girlfriend, TNP.

Maharet 08-18-2004 12:18 AM

It was a tough decision and I talked it over with...of course...my mom...she said to just do it. I had a small inheritence that I took the funds from. Emeralds are my birthstone too...I'll bring it to retreat in November and we can all wear it over the weekend, how about that!!!

I will cry, I know, when it comes in the mail...And yes, I'll take pics and post them...The seller keeps thanking me for buying it and hasbeen very nice and congratulatory - he knows I didn't want to spend that much, but that's ok...It will be a good transaction all the way around. Haven't told my husband yet, but am waiting for the right moment...Maybe during, uhm, those marital duties I'll whisper in his ear..."Honey, I spent 2K on an antique Alpha Phi pin..." LOL!!!!!!!!

I just feel very fortunate and lucky. ;)

CONGRATS!!! :D

It's gorgeous!

OleMissGlitter 08-18-2004 01:56 PM

Glad to hear the badge was won by an Alpha Phi. That is such a pretty badge. I love the "lazy" Alpha Phi badge. Very nice.

SmartBlondeGPhB 08-18-2004 02:51 PM

Very well done......

Maharet 08-18-2004 07:07 PM

Wow!

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and good wishes regarding my aquisition of a lazy phi pin. Your words are sweet both in public and in private. This is a dream come true...

I will wear it proudly and share it with whomever I see...It will not be put in a display, but shown often...AFTER I take it to my jeweler and make sure it is secure!

I have said this before...Sisters are sisters regardless of their Greek affiliation.

And there's a lot of 'sisterness' going around.

IheartAphi 08-20-2004 08:43 PM

How old is the badge? Does it have the chapter listed?

I can't believe it went for so much!!!! Look at it this way, you can always get a 2K tax right off if you donated it (in your estate) to the Foundation (unless you have a future Alpha Phi running around)

Imagine how jealous your future daughter's sisters would be if she had that badge. :)

astroAPhi 08-22-2004 03:51 PM

So uh, Maharet, would you mind sharing this one with me? LOL.

That emerald will look beautiful on you, especially considering your hair color.

Maharet 08-22-2004 05:15 PM

If we ever get to meet face to face, I'll let you wear it for a little while!

Thanks - you are sweet!

Maharet;)

astroAPhi 08-22-2004 11:20 PM

HAHA, that would probably be the most expensive piece of jewelry I will ever be able to wear!

Maharet 08-22-2004 11:39 PM

Naw, I have a feeling one great hunka hunka burnin' love is going to buy you a honking piece of bling bling when he proposes some day!

Hmmm, maybe you can wear the pin on your wedding day as 'something old'...

:p

Maharet

P.S. OK this may be showing my age, but what does bling bling mean? I know what it stands for, but where did the phrase come from...(Gosh I feel old...)

TechAPhi 08-23-2004 12:31 AM

Congratulations of the AMAZING badge! It's a work of art!

Don't feel bad...my mother, who is quite trendy, calls it "blink blink." :)

This is actually one of the questions in the new trivial pursuit 90s edition. It was coined by a music artist (who escapes me at this moment) during the 90s.

I'm still ROTFL! I can see Maharet saying "hunka hunka burnin' love', but not 'honkin piece of bling bling'!:D

Maharet 08-24-2004 10:50 PM

I thought 'honkin piece of bling bling' went with 'hunka hunka burnin' love'...Elvis did have lots of bling bling didn't he?

ROTFL!!!:p

IT IS HERE!

I am in a state of disbelief even thought I am holding my lazy Phi pin in my hands...It is beautiful. There aren't the adequate words to descibe how I feel. Let's just say I have had it for 25 minutes and I am still smiling to the point of it hurting.

I cannot wait to show and share it with 'you all'. It is going to my jewelers tomorrow...it needs a check-up for the security of the stones and clasp.

I just wish it could whisper in my ear where it came from and where it has been in the last 120 years or so.

I have no regrets and I hope my excitement is felt through cyber-space and to all of you. Whenever I go to any Alpha Phi event big or small I will bring it with me so everyone can hold it. And silly me had a dream that I found an old box at an estate sale and inside were enough pins for my regional team. I like that dream!

AOE Maharet :D

TechAPhi 08-25-2004 09:07 PM

Maharet! Post some pictures of you wearing your beautiful pin once it's had it's "checkup." I'd love to see how beautiful it looks when worn by a beautiful Phi!

I just saw this thread and all I can say is  ! It's beautiful!

Will you be at Regionals next year? If so, I want to hold it! (Just for a second) ;)

aoe,
Jessica

Maharet 08-26-2004 08:48 AM

Yes I will be at Regionals and of course you can hold it! I intend to let this pin have a wonderful second life...The next passage is from the seller - it isn't much history, but as you read this, the pin might not have ever been here at all...

"This pin for the last 10 years has resided in San Diego, CA with a very good friend of mine who collects fraternity and sorority pins. This pin was rescued from an LA swap meet a decade ago from a gold dealer. I say rescued because in all likelihood if he had not got his price back then he would have scrapped the pin out losing it forever. She has kept the pin until the right deal came along. Her father was a Sigma Chi and I had an 1898 all diamonds and emeralds Sigma Chi badge that she wanted. We swapped and that is all the history I know of the pin. The good news is that it has new life with an Alpha Phi!!!!"

AOE Always, Maharet aka J.

Oh wow! OH WOW!!!

Maharet,

I just want to congratulate you on the aquisition of such a piece of history for Alpha Phi. I am touched by your generosity towards your sisters by offering to let them touch, wear and hold the pin too. It sounds like you really have a heart for Alpha Phi - I think you deserved to win the pin.

The part where you said that you wish the pin could whisper to you where it has been in the last 120 years is especially sweet. I'm sure the sister who originally owned the badge would be smiling right now, knowing how much you love her badge.

Well done Triad sister!

.....Kelly :)

navane 08-27-2004 06:24 PM

PS - My big sister, GPhiBLtColonel, is a member of the Crescent Catchers for Gamma Phi Beta. They put out a newsletter detailing all of the pins they have "caught", along with stories about how some pins were reunited with their original owners. It's really neat to read about all of the pins!

Plus, the Crescent Catchers recently managed to obtain a badge from Alpha chapter dated 1887!! I can't wait to see a picture of that one!!

.....Kelly :)

cutiepatootie 08-27-2004 07:22 PM
