Who's taken it and who still needs to take it?

I passed PRAXIS I the first time, no prob.

I gotta take 3 PRAXIS II tests to graduate:

Elementary Content Knowlede
Early Childhood
BOTH Special Ed tests

I only have four tries to fit in all three, so PLEASE pray for me!

I still have to take 2 out of the 3 Praxis 1 exams this semester.

I passed Praxis I a long time ago. I have to take 2 of the Praxis II exams this year:

Music: Concept & Process
Music: Content Knowledge

What is PRAXIS?

Spanish is a killer. The year I took it, only 33% passed.

uh, yeah...the Praxis is the devil! I passed Praxis I with no problem my soph. year. Praxis II was a different story. I was an Exercise Science major with a cert. in Physical Education and Health. I waited until the summer after graduation to take it because I really did not know if I would go into teaching. I got a job teaching right after graduation, so I signed up. First time, missed it by 3 points. Second time, missed it by 1. Third time, passed it by 17 points! I did nothing different study-wise on the third try. I hated that test with a passion!

For some unknown reason...I have signed up to do the National Boards this year. here comes another test.... :mad:

Strange that we don't have PRAXIS out here... Illinois has a Basic Skills test that you're supposed to pass before you get into a specific education-major program, though if you don't take ed classes until grad school I think you can take it your first semester of classes.

Then there's a content area test that you're supposed to take for your major area of concentration. I think the elementary people had an "elementary" one if they're going for a K-9 certificate, but there's got to be a content area if you're going for a 6-12 "secondary" certificate. (I'm not sure how that's changed given the new pedagogical test.)

There's also a pedagogical test that's new for people who didn't get their certificate applied for by last July. I don't recall if you have to take it before or after student teaching. Of the pedagogical and content areas, one must be taken before and the other can be taken after.

SO glad I got my K-12 Library Media Specialist cert taken care of last year. I would *not* want to have to take a third set of tests!
I do think it's nice to have a pedagogical test to make sure you have some clues about teaching... if you're in classes that are covering what's going to be on the test! Lots of ed. schools have seemed to say the same thing with different terminology, which makes it just a smidge harder to figure out which item on a test is closest to the answer that you'd say.

Is the PRAXIS like that with three sets of tests-- basics, content, and pedagogy? It kind of looks like the PRAXIS is our Basic Skills, and the PRAXIS II is the pedagogical and the content rolled into one...

There are actually 3 PRAXIS sets:

PRAXIS I: Reading (multiple choice), Writing (written and multiple choice) and Math (multiple choice)

PRAXIS II: your specific subject area. Some of these tests have "exercises" that require more than a multiple choice answer.

PRAXIS III: "Classroom Performance Assessments comprise a system for assessing the skills of beginning teachers in classroom settings. ETS developed Praxis III for use in teacher licensing decisions made by states or local agencies empowered to license teachers. Under the guidelines that govern its use, Praxis III may not be used for the purpose of making employment decisions about teachers who are currently licensed."

I don't think Maryland uses PRAXIS III, if they do, they can kiss my butt right about now LOL. For our program, you have to pass PRAXIS I and II to graduate, because getting our liscense is a part of our requirements, which is cool, kills two birds with one stone kinda thing. However, some graduate programs I've seen, I don't recall them having to take PRAXIS II, just PRAXIS I (for those programs that help people become certified)

I didn't think they were that hard.

Y'all are making me a little nervous! I'm taking the Praxis II next month. I've been studying my butt off. I'll student teach in January...if I pass...and the practice things I've done make me nervous for the real deal!

Thankfully I didn't have to take the Praxis I, got out of that due to my ACT score.

Praxis II...well..I'll be taking it here in the Fall.

I luckily tested out of taking Praxis I. We were exempt if we had an A in Math and English. I would've had to take the computer part, however, I took a college computer course my senior year of HS and was exempt from that also following proof of credit and grade.

I took Praxis II last summer and passed...THANK GOD! I only had to take the Early Childhood (Pre-K - 3) exam. Very thankful that I didn't have a concentration!

I will hopefully be taking Praxis III next year if I find a job. This year I'll be subbing in two counties and trying to become known in a school district.

I took the Praxis II (French Content Knowledge) in June, and I found it to be really easy.
I never took the Praxis I because I wasn't an Ed. major, and the program I'm doing doesn't require it.

Like I had posted earlier...I passed Praxis I on the first time, took Praxis II for my content areas and passed, and I do not have to take Praxis III for North Carolina.

I am going into my 4th year of teaching now...so (shoot me in the head now!) I have registared for the National Board Certification program. The state of NC pays for it, unlike most others, and there is a huge bonus offered by most states if you are NBC. Has anyone done this? I heard it was a lot harder than Praxis II, but much like Praxis III? Has anyone taken Praxis III? Not only does this process require me to take another exam, but I also have to build this huge portfolio. I guess it will all pay off in the long run....:(

We have an awesome art teacher in our building who has tried TWICE to do the National Board test. She's done the test, sent in the portfolio, included the videotape of her teaching the unit, and it just doesn't seem to matter. She's a veteran teacher! And not a crusty stick-in-the-mud style veteran, either-- she's had a couple of her pieces in local shows, and she tries to think of neat things for the students to do. I have no idea why she isn't Board Certified.

I took Praxis 2 the content knowledge and PLT and passed ... didnt study .... didnt think it was that hard.

I'm putting off PRAXIS II as long as I can- kind of like graduation. :cool:

I took the Praxis I and got phenominal scores..

I'm studying to take the Praxis II in about a month and a half - two months.. I'm NOT looking forward to it! :\

My mom (the teacher) convinced me to take the PRAXIS. I'm a bit bitter because in NJ to be a certified Bio teacher, I need to take: Biology Content, General Science Part I and Gen Sci Part II. Meanwhile my Eng friend had to take one exam. Should I want to be any other kind of science teacher, I need to take more exams.

I passed 2/3 on my first try...Bio Content was a BIATCH!!!! Seriously, they asked the most specific things like "What plant hormone controls the blah blah blah?" And its a big crock of crap that it tests things learned in Bio 1 & Bio 2. Most things that were tested I learned in my 300 & 400 level bio classes.

Not that I'm using the test anyway...I decided on going to grad school instead of teaching. What a waste of 2 days. Le sigh.

My mother is a national boad certified french teacher. I remember when she was going through all of that. What makes the difference for most teachers is quality peer mentoring in the application process. Without that, you're kind of shooting in the dark.

I'm going to do the National Boards for counseling this year. I figure I am still in school mode to a degree, and may as well go ahead and do it now! Hopefully the fact that I'll be a fairly recent grad will help with the testing too - at least I hope so anyway!

Edited to add: I was worried about the praxis, but did not spend much time preparing for it. I sweated until I got the results, and was happily surprised to find that I did really well!

how did everyone taking the praxis in september do???

i tested out of the praxis I because of my ACT scores.

I took the PLT:7-12 and the Social Studies Content Knowledge in september and passed them both by at least 16 points! kinda suprising because i was so convinced that i failed that i paid the $25 extra dollars to get the test results back early over the phone. i couldn't take the suspense anymore.

I passed the Elementary Ed Content Knowledge!!!! I was shocked, because what I did was I studied the WRONG TEST. I was looking at the curriculum and instruction test and didn't realize it (I know, I got issues). So when I went in there I was blown, because I didn't expect that. I just KNEW I failed, especially the history and science sections. But I passed by a fairly good margin, I was above average. Go figure! :D ;)


Special Ed tests in November!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took Praxis I to apply for my Indiana Teaching License (needed to work in the schools for us speech path's), and then I have to take Praxis III to be certified.

Seriously, the Praxis I was such a joke. I wish they would've given me an option to test out of it because I feel like it was a waste of my $120.

So I signed up for another Praxis exam.

I'll be taking Earth Science content knowledge in Jan.

Anyone else taking more praxis-es (praxi?) exams?

Here in Texas, Praxis I is called THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment). It's the same as Praxis and just as evil. I'm trying to get into an alternative certfication program and had to take the THEA. I got my scores today: reading- 247 (17 points above the minimun) writing-240 (20 points above the minimun,plus I got a 6 out of 8 on my writing sample) math-226 (4 points below the minimum:o :eek: I totally guessed on this part)

I'm going to see if I can get the math part waved since I have a B in a math class. But I'm totally excited. Waiting for the scores was the worst part.

I'm probably going to break down and take the Praxis I in March. :(

Hey I have a question about the Praxis. My science teacher last semester told the class that the Praxis is changing and we will now have to take a different test. He said that we had until a certain date to take the old one. I don't know if this is only for kentucky but if not does anyone know what the deadline is? I am worried because I missed the deadline for the January test and I am going to take it in March. Any info you have would be great! Thanks

I HOPE that was the last one that I will EVER have to take.

I wanted to scream in the middle of the test because 60% was about rocks, 35% were earthquakes, and 5% was other. I HATE rocks, and am not to found of earthquakes either. It didn't seem like a fair test, IMHO. Its supposed to test a broad range of earth science stuff, not just 2 and go with it.:mad:

i still haven't gotten my scores, and they were supposed to be sent out 2/8

i didn't take it but several of my friends did. The scores will be late because of the bad weather in January. They weren't even available over the phone until the 10th, so I'm assuming you should recieve your scores in the next couple days.

i got my scores- and i passed with flying colors!!

So now with 4 tests down, i can teach 2 science subjects in new jersey. doesn't seem fair, does it?

So, it looks like I'm going to be taking either PRAXIS II (English Language, Literature and Composition: Content Knowledge) or PLACE (which is specifially for Colorado). I doubt anyone here knows much, if anything, about PLACE since it's limited to this state -- but if anyone does, I'd love to hear it since I'm not sure which test I should take.

Anyway, I've been out of college for a while, so I haven't done anything related to English studies for years and don't remember much. Can anyone recommend a good study guide so I can prepare? I really have no idea where to start.

some PRAXIS tests have study guides created for them that you can buy from ETS.
none of mine did, so i bought an AP study guide and it worked nicely.
