Last Comic Standing 3

What we know about Season 3 so far...

sigtau305 08-13-2004 11:17 AM

I saw the preview last night. Sounds like fun.

polarpi 08-13-2004 02:50 PM

I'm thrilled! I never saw LCS1, so all my favorites are from season 2, which will make it interesting when it comes to seeing how they perform in the head-to-heads! :)

polarpi 08-31-2004 02:09 AM

So what did y'all think of tonight's episode? (I haven't watched it all the way through yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes this season! :D)

kateshort 08-31-2004 06:38 AM

What an interesting night...

I think Bonnie made the right decision in dropping out. That said, I wish the chick from Chicago had made it through in her place...

I'll try to remember the order they went in, but it got fuzzy in the middle.

I didn't like Jessica. Much better than before, but I think you need to have more talent than just making funny faces, and I think she relies on the faces as way too much of her act. It helps her to stand out, but I don't think it makes her good... just memorable. I wouldn't mind if she was gone.

Tess wasn't all that great. That suit was nice, but it could have fit her better. I was wondering if she was going to do a Janet with the button pressed that tight! I wouldn't mind if she was gone.

John was AWESOME. Still one of my fave performances of the night. Hee.

Corey looks *so* different with the heavier makeup and curly hair. Semi-funny.

Todd was Todd. Annoying, but a little funny. I wouldn't mind if he was gone.

Rich was okay. I'm on the fence with him.

Tammy was semi-funny, but her jokes are pretty standard.

Ralphie broke my heart. When he was first picked to go tonight, my husband remarked that Ralphie didn't look happy about it; to hear that it was because of his dad was just wrenching. He was able to deliver two non-original jokes with style and panache, and I hope his tribute will allow him to get through to next week.

Alonzo was AWESOME. This is why he was the #2 guy, and could have been #1. Too damn funny. Anyone who can make non-cringeworthy jokes about pedophilia is creative as hell, and knows where the boundary lines are and how to work them.

Dave was great. Though will someone please get him a haircut and a better shirt? Right now he looks like Dana Carvey trying to look like Keith Richards... Much prefer him with the shorter hair and more clean-cut midwestern look. Instead of looking like a healthy older guy, he looked like a strung-out younger guy.

Our Host needs lessons in how to host a live show. I have a feeling he's much better when he doesn't have the time constraints and can just relax with his rehearsed stuff. Or when he actually rehearses. Either way.

I know that Monday's group will have two voted out, announced on Tuesday. Will Tuesday's group also have two voted out? Or are they just performing to warm them up?

LeslieAGD 08-31-2004 10:15 AM

Personally, I thought the best comics last night were John, Tammy, and Dave.

I've always loved John's comedy, and part of that reason is he keeps bringing new material every time. I liked the playstation vs. atari and finding cheat codes jokes.

I haven't liked Tammy much in the past, but the Scarlet O'Hara bridesmaid's dress had me rolling. I love when she said she'd wear it again to the birth and graduation...I think that took an old joke and made it new.

Dave was funny, AND funny looking! Kateshort was right about Keith Richards...I was thinking Bon Jovi, myself. ;) The cows and cars jokes, however, were great.

Alonzo and Rich were also okay. Ralphie will get a lot of sympathy votes (although if he had performed under normal circumstances, I'm pretty sure it would have been a good set). The others weren't very memorable.

I don't really understand the rules of the show though...I know the house/comic with the most votes greats 50 tho., but how many people get kicked every week? How does elimination work?

dzandiloo 08-31-2004 10:32 AM

How did they come up w/the 4 people that house 2 had to choose from to bring back? Only girls? Jessica? She su-hucks. Nothing about her is funny. The first time I saw her schtick, it made me chuckle, but that was all. I thought Marina or that Costello woman would have been better. Oh well. Jessica will be gone tonight.

I thought Alonzo was the best he's ever been tonight b/c he didn't rely on the usual "being black vs being white" routine. Don't get me wrong-I think his set is funny, but it was nice to see him do something a little different.

John was second best & Tammy did well. I didn't understand much that came out of Todd Glass' mouth. Dave Mordal was good, but he looks unwell! Rich was OK, Corey wasn't too terribly funny, and Ralphie, well...

What to say about that? I had just commented to my husband that he looked horrible/ill, and as soon as he started speaking I was like "someone died." I am not a fan of Ralphie's under normal circumstances, and I appreciated "the show will go on" attitude, but felt bad for the other comics who will be voted out b/c of the sympathy votes he will get. I know there was no way he was going home on the first night anyway, so it's a moot point to even debate the effect it will have on the votes...but suffice it to say house 1 will probably win the $50k b/c of the "most calls" rule. My heart goes out to him, though.

My DH was actually bored last night & said he wasn't looking forward to future eps at all....I'll give it a chance. My prediction is that Corey will go home from house 1 and Jessica will go home from house 2 tonight.

polarpi 08-31-2004 04:59 PM

All right, I've finally watched my tape of last night's episode and this is what I thought:

Jessica: She was all right....not hysterical, but I found myself chuckling a few times. I definitely think she'll be the lowest vote-getter for the Season 2 house.

Cory (?): Didn't laugh, didn't smile. Didn't enjoy.

John: Loved his opening line (about wanting to get it over with to go back to playing video games). I laughed....I'm glad he was in the first group, but with only two minutes, I don't think it was his BEST night.

Tess: I actually enjoyed her set. Laughed a couple of times, and I think she'll make it to the next round, but she wasn't spectacular.

Tammy: I enjoyed her set...the bridesmaid dress had me rolling (because all girls who've EVER had to stand up in a wedding completely agree with everything she said!)

Ralphie: I felt so bad for him, having to fight through the tears to give a two minute performance. I definitely think he'll make it through to the next round, but I'm hoping things will become easier for him, because I don't think the "sympathy" vote will sustain him for very long.

Todd: I enjoyed his set as well....not typical Todd Glass stuff, but decent.

Rich: I only laughed at his joke about the shirt he was wearing, and then I sat and stared at the TV for the rest of his set. I'm not impressed.

Alonzo: BEST SET OF THE NIGHT!!!! I laughed at everything he presented, and he did a good job of walking a thin line between classy humor and tacky humor with the pedophilia joke.

Dave: See my comments for Cory above....it was ten times worse with Dave.

My predictions for those leaving tonight are Jessica and Cory, and if the votes went for those who were the best comics, I might give the edge to Season 2 (but of course, this is subjective opinions we're talking about here and what's funny to me may not have been funny to the other viewers).

From what it sounded like last night, the other ten perform tonight and we get a chance to vote on them after tonight's show, and then another elimination will occur. Now, if this is to go for eight weeks, they can't be eliminating four comics per week, because it jsut doesn't add up. :p

sigtau305 08-31-2004 05:36 PM

I have to agree with most of what everyone posted. Alonzo, John, Tammy have done well. Ralphie did okay and he'll get some Sympathy votes because of His Father passed away and He managed to get through his set in one piece.

dzandiloo 08-31-2004 10:14 PM

Spoilers from tonight...

OK, so I was surprised House 2 won the $50k...but not surprised by the folks who went home. The comics tonight were just about awful. No one cracked me up, except one of Jay London's one liners. Even Gary Gulman was off his game & only made me smile instead of laugh out loud.

House 1's comedians were horrid, though. Teri, Sean, Rob, Geoff and Dat proved that season 2's crop was sooo much better. There were people who auditioned & got rejected for this season who were funnier then them (Dan Adoot? The Indian guy? Dan Naturman? All funnier). I don't care if Dat did win last time. He won b/c he had one funny set, and everyone felt sorry for him b/c the rest of the house was so ruthless w/him.

I thought Kathleen was great, though. Ant still isn't funny and I hope he is the one to go, but I'm afraid Corey will go first (even though he made me laugh a little, ended kind of weak though). Jay London actually had me laughing-but I loved Jay Mohr's intro: the love child of Steven Wright & Chewbacca. Sooo accurate!

How 2 predict, though? I'm betting Teri will go home from house 1 & can only pray that Ant will go from house 2.

LeslieAGD 08-31-2004 10:31 PM

I missed tonight episode. :(
Who had the highest votes from season 2 to win the money?

dzandiloo 08-31-2004 10:48 PM

They didn't say individually...just that season 2 got the most votes so they split the $50k among themselves.

polarpi 09-01-2004 02:18 AM

Okay, so I was pleasantly surprised by tonight's episode (and again, it's all subjective, so what I thought may be completely different than what all y'all thought):

Tere: :p Didn't laugh at all....*maybe* cracked a smile.

Jay: I laughed at two of his jokes, but I'm sick of his format. It's really bugging me.

Rob: Nothing there was funny. I just sat and stared at the TV, wondering when it would end.

Corey: Bad, bad, bad. Can't see why anyone laughed at his jokes.

Dat: I actually laughed a few times at his jokes, and don't think he's as bad as others think he is.

Gary: Again, wasn't as bad as I expected (having read the thread before seeing the episdoe). Not his greatest set, but I still voted for him :D

Geoff: Great stuff! I laughed at almost every joke, and look forward to seeing him next week.

Kathleen: Again, great set....I laughed at everything she said.

Sean: Funny....not as much laughing as at Geoff, but he's a current fave!

Ant: I liked his set tonight, had me hysterically laughing and wishing my step-dad was still in the room, since I think he would've been laughing too!

I think Season 2 will win the $50,000 again (I think they have the better comics at the moment), and my predictions for who'll be eliminated on Tuesday are either Tere or Rob from Season 1, and Corey from Season 2 (because I'd really be between Corey and Jay, but I think Jay has more of a "public appeal" and support than Corey).

polarpi 09-08-2004 01:31 AM

I guess I didn't do so bad predicting tonight's outcomes

Here's my impressions/thoughts of tonight's episode:

Alonzo: Not his best set, but it was pretty good. I definitely chuckled a couple of times.

Ralphie: I laughed, but I think I was laughing more at the bleeping out of the bad words in the first bit than anything else. One of the funniest tonight, however.

Tammy: Pretty good....I enjoyed it and cracked up throughout her set, but I don't know if it was strong enough.

Tess: I didn't laugh at all. I thought her set last week was so much better than tonight.

Gary: I laughed at his set (maybe because I can somewhat relate :D), but I fear he might get eliminated.

Rob: Again, not funny. His advertisements for the voters to give Season 1 the money was getting annoying.

Jay: Please, just go home. Thank you. :p

Rich: Pretty funny, much better than last week, and I voted for him.

I still predict that Season 2 will win the money, but it'll likely be a much smaller margin of victory. I predict Season 1's elimination will come down to either Rob or Tess, and Season 2 will come down to either Tammy or Jay (I hope!)

What did you all think?

LeslieAGD 09-08-2004 09:40 AM

Missed the show again :(
Only caught the eliminations at the end.
Did Season 2 win the money again this week?

Yep. And my guess is they will win it again after last night.

I think Bobert and Tammy Pescatelli will go home (although I'd rather it be Tess & Jay London).

Thank goodness I'm not the only one hoping Jay would go home! :)

I hope tammy can stay a little while longer ( Gotta support a fellow Clevelander) ;) :D

polarpi 09-15-2004 12:28 AM

So sad to see Tammy leave....Rob needed to go home, but Tess was a close second to last in my book!

Tonight's performances weren't that spectacular. I laughed at Geoff, Todd, Kathleen, and John the most, Ant and Dat were semi-funny (but most of the material was from last season), and Dave and Sean didn't impress me at all. I think the money might be a closer race this next week, but I'd still give the edge to Season 2 (poor Season 1), and I think that Sean or Dave may go home from Season 1 (leaning more toward Sean) and Ant or Kathleen (as much as I hate to see any of them go, but Ant didn't make me laugh this week).

Looking forward to next week, though! :)

LeslieAGD 09-15-2004 09:25 AM

John and Dat were my favorite performers last night. It's nice to see Dat using fresh material...and John always does. I think Sean or Geoff (S1) and Ant (S2) will be booted this time around.

dzandiloo 09-15-2004 05:31 PM

I thought Geoff's performance was awkward...lots of pauses, silence, bad timing.

I fast forwarded through Ant b/c I just.can't.stand.him.

Sean was funnier than I've seen him before, but not really anything exciting.

John totally cracked me up w/his joke about the door-stopper thing...I remember doing that myself! He's still my favorite, and I voted for him 3 times, and Kathleen 3 times (mainly b/c I can't bear to see her go before Ant or Todd)

Todd is on my nerves w/his vote for me vote for me wahawhwahwah crap. He needs to go.

Very happy to see Dat doing something new-reminded me of how he was back when I first saw him. Amazing what some new material can do.

I can't even remember what Dave Mordal said, other than the apology for his appearance over the last few weeks...that was kind of funny.

I pray that Ant and Geoff are the ones to go, but I'm afraid Kathleen may go before Ant b/c her following isn't as big. It could be a toss-up b/t Geoff and Sean, though. Season 2 will win the money again. We'll see!

I thought Geoff would leave last night instead of Sean, and Todd instead of Ant...oh well.

I hope John and Dat go through to the next round.

polarpi 09-22-2004 04:04 PM

I would be happy to see either John or Kathleen in the final four....Jay, GO HOME THIS TIME PLEASE!!!!!!

I hope Dat is the one to go through from Season 1....while normally I find some of Ralphie's material hilarious, I just stared at the TV last night as he went off.

Do you think they maybe put Carrotop with Season 2 to hopefully get S1 a win this time? Throughout his entire routine, all I could think is that he's normally at the San Diego County Fair every year, and I can't see anyone going to see him. :p

I know, I was staring at the TV with my jaw on the floor. He insulted every racial and ethnic group and not in a funny manner, either.

Now, if he wanted to insult people, I don't see why he didn't throw in with the roasters for next week?

I'm a little concerned with Gary and Todd as part of the roasting team for Season 2 next week....as Alonzo said, he did win that competition, so I think he will do well again in it, but Gary wasn't strong in that competition and I think that Todd was eliminated before the roast, so he didn't get experience in it for next week. It'll be interesting, at least.

Wow, I miss that.

dzandiloo 09-23-2004 03:50 PM

So glad Ant is gone...ambivalent about LCS1, but voted for Dave Mordal b/c I absolutely HATE Ralphie May (he was abominable on Tues), and Dat just has to go (yes, I liked him in LCS1, but his schtick has gotten old).

So sad that 2 people from LCS2 have to go...John Heffron will move on, but Kathleen was the funniest I've seen her & she got some votes from me (3 on DH's cell phone). Didn't understand the purpose of Carrot Top/Louie Anderson...but I was seriously LOL at CT's blind man's peep hole. LA looks like he's one twinkie away from death...man, was he pale!

jess_pom 10-01-2004 07:01 PM

OOOwwwhhh... Someone's bitter.

http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=169379

Guess Ralphie regrets being on the show. Gee, I hate when I go on National TV and it helps my career!

sigtau305 10-01-2004 08:05 PM

The Roasting of Jay Mohr was pretty good . I'm surprised that Dat Phan didn't make it.

"The whole show is a joke," he told The Associated Press recently. "The viewership's gone down the hill, and the show has jumped the shark."

What a damn crybaby.

Psst-hey Ralphie...you think viewership has gone downhill b/c they didn't think your racist b.s. was funny? Uh, no. Viewership has gone down because no one wants to waste their time listening to the Season 1 comics.

IMO, it's a crying shame that Tess, Rich or whats-his-name will beat out Gary or Alonzo (sorry, Todd Glass has no chance after the roast...) to make it to the final four. IMO-Dave Mordal is right where he should be-he got his revenge on Dat & Ralphie, but no one else from season 1 is as funny as Gary & Alonzo.

Good riddance, Ralphie May.

Hear hear....I don't like the format of this competition....I could understand getting rid of one from each team for the first couple of weeks, but then have them ALL competing against one another (even as they compete as a team for the money) and the lowest two vote-getters overall get the axe (even if they're from the same team!)

I think Tess may move on from the roast...I think she did the best out of the three from Season 1, but I think Gary and Alonzo outperformed them all (and it was probably Gary's strongest performance this season!)

Not looking forward to seeing the final 4 (I don't like Dave, I don't think he's funny, he could go home now for all I care), but maybe they'll take the top two vote getters, even if they're from the same season (oh I hope I hope!)

jess_pom 10-12-2004 05:29 PM

Have ya'll heard what's going on with the finale? Appearantly, the ratings have dropped so much they're cancelling the show with one episode remaining. It will air on Comedy Central this weekend, and clips will be played tonight during "Father of the Pride" but it won't air on NBC as a whole show.

That sucks. Hard core.

kateshort 10-18-2004 07:44 PM

By Chance, I happened to catch it on Saturday. It was only a half-hour show, with the other half hour being a Rich Vos special (which I turned off because he annoyed me).

I'm happy that the winner won, though. He deserved it!
