Any greeks in the upcoming Miss America pageant?
Our alumnae chapter is having a fundraiser centering around the airing of the Miss America pageant and and I am doing some research to be able to provide any fun facts during the party. I am wondering if there are any greek contestants. So far I have found out that Miss Florida is a Kappa Kappa Gamma and Miss Georgia is an Alpha Kappa Alpha. If you know of any other contestants and their greek affiliation, please reply. You can see all the contestants at http://www.missamerica.org/competition/ just click on the 2004 National Contestants link on that page.

Well I think Miss Arizona is Greek. I gather this from the fact that she won a Pan-Hellenic Scholarship, with that in mind I would assume that she is Greek.
Man, she would have graduated ASU around the same time as me. I think she might be a Theta or a Kappa? |
Bookmarking this thread for the fun next month!!

This from http://www.miss-arizona.org/missaz/ leads me to believe Miss Arizona is a Chi Omega.

I would assume you are right about Miss Arizona being a Chi Omega. It would seem only logical that a Chi-O would get a Chi-O scholarship.
So I guess we can put down Miss Arizona: Chi Omega :) Woo hoo so many Greeks to root for. YEAH!!!!!!! |

thetalady,
no I was thinking of the current Miss Arizona (for Miss America) because she looked familiar in the first place from the years I spent at ASU. :) I just couldn't remember which chapter she was a part of. :) |

Actually, I'm sure that she is a Pi Beta Phi... she was the baton girl for UCLA and I remember her from rush. She has competed for Miss California for quite a while now; she came around the row a couple years back to get girls to try out for Miss Los Angeles County when she was the reigning one two years ago. |

Regarding Miss CA, I am positive that I read that she is an AKA. However, to be sure, I'll check up the website again & add the link when I find it. If not, them I do apologize.
However, neither organization is a bad one so wherever she belongs, it's awesome! |

She is listed on the sister only site of Pi Beta Phi as a 1999 initate of CA Delta, which is our UCLA chapter... Also, the hometown listed, matches the one listed on the Miss America website. |
Yeah, I'm 100% sure that she is a Pi Phi... she rushed me and she was a good friend of my roommate.
|
Just out of curiosity, how do y'all find this information, if it's not in your sorority magazine? It's so rarely listed in their bios.
And I am assuming that we'll be doing the "grand viewing" on September 18th, correct? |
honeychile, I would have never known about Miss California if someone had not said something... When it was mentioned she might be a Pi Phi, I looked through our alumnae directory.

I thought I was losing my mind! I checked out numerous Miss Some-State sites, and only found one or two that mention any sororities? Noooooo!
|
i'm glad someone looked into the affiliation of Miss California. i thought about it later and thought she many not have been an AKA since no one on a sorority listserv i'm on mentioned her being a member. with Miss Georgia, lots of folks talked about her so i knew she was my soror the day after she won.

Veena - Miss California
You're right, Veena was actually a Pi Beta Phi at UCLA, not an AKA. Veena's heritage is half Indian half Indonesian.

Any new ones yet? 9 out of 51 is great so far!! |
Miss Florida and Miss Louisiana are prelim swimsuit winners. Miss California and Miss Georgia are prelim talent winners.
I have to go to a wedding tonight at 7:00, so I hope I'll be able to make it back for the start of the pageant. |
Good luck to all of the greek women in tonight's pageant!!
But a big biased good luck to Miss Kentucky and Miss Tennessee!!! So excited-- it starts in 10 minutes! I am watching it with my boyfriend-- normally he hates what I watch on tv-- but he would never miss 51 beautiful women on tv at one time!! haha |
WOW....5 out of the top 10 are GREEK!!!!!!!!!! :D
Yea for Miss Texas (even though she isn't greek)! :) |
