Aggiegphi....
So, what are you guys doing for housing? Do ya'll use the Pi Kap or LXA house for recruitment? (I'm an alumna and not really clued into what's happening in the greek world at A&M anymore) Just curious. Personally, I've just got my fingers crossed that they'll have the renovations done on our house soon.
|
Hey, another Aggie Greek on GC!! I am a recent alum from our A&M chapter. I heard that Gamma Phi will be using the LXA house for recruitment this year. :)
I don't know if you've seen sorority row recently, but the Chi-O house is undergoing some serious renovating to the front of their house this summer too! |
Howdy!
Yeah, I did see that the Chi-O's were experiencing renovations as well. I'd imagine that like our home, the majority of the "original" houses are in need of some updating. Although I'm tremendously pleased with what we are doing, we would have been able to do much more had we not had to spend so much last year to fix the foundation! I'm tremendously curious to know if and where the Gamma Phi's are planning to build. I'd also wondered if they weren't plotting to buy-out one of the men's org's from the row. I'll be interested to find out. |
I can't really guaranty accuracy about this.... but I HEARD that they were going to buy the land at the end of Athens. The plot with all the trees that faces down the street by the LXA and Pi Kapp houses. Not sure if it's true though. I don't think they would buy either of the frat houses, cause LXA just bought theirs, and Pi Kapp doesn't seem to want to go anywhere (why would they, they live on sorority row? LOL)
|
I will begin this by saying I KNOW NOTHING OFFICIAL ON THIS SUBJECT. Everything I say about it is only MY opinion.
I would guess we will buy land and build. |
We have a unique situation at A&M. There is virtually no land left on the Sorority Row. The two newest chapters had to build one street over. There are two houses on the row that are now occupied by men's org's because 2 women's orgs closed . I have been wondering what they would do about the land issue. Maybe buy a few houses in the neighborhood and clear the land? Or try to buy out one of the men's orgs? I'm just bein' nosey!

Howdy!
Sorry took me so long to reply.....we have bought land on the street is perpendicular to sorority row...cannot remember the name for the life of me, sorry been away since May...I think we may be using the Pike house for the first day of recruit, not totally sure, find out Friday evening! Last I saw our land it still had an old house on it, and the yard was covered in bushes and small trees, they were supposed to start building sometime this summer not sure. I'll keep everyone updated! Edited to add: Not University Oaks the one parallel, wanna say it starts with a D? and its slightly past the intersection of Munson and this street on the left. |
Congrats! Building is so exciting! Do you guys have plans drawn up yet? I'm sure it will be gorgeous - all of the new houses lately have been breathtaking. The name of the street you're talking about is Dominic. I believe that's the same plot Lindz was talking about. I'm actually here in C.S., but havent driven past the row in a long time - so embarrassing- so I haven't noticed if ya'll were building! Good luck to you all during recruitment!

Thanks and right back to you for our upcoming recruitment! If you go visit our TAMU greeklife website and click on view the PNM's recruitment book, it has a picture of what our house will look like...here's the link to the Panhel's site, and from there click on brochure....

Those houses look HUGE. I'm guessing most everyone lives in??
And I'm really stupid, I saw a picture of your soon to be house before so I knew you were building. <slaps forehead> |
The houses are pretty big. My house only houses50 women - most of the other houses are about the same. A few are smaller. Usually sophomores & officers live-in. Chapter size at our campus is usually around 160-200.
|
It was about the same for our house. :)
|
As far as I know....our houses are pretty large, but the largest I've seen so far are at the University of Oklahoma where houses hold around 90 women.
|
aggiegphi,
good luck and have fun and please let us know how recruitment goes Thanks, Karen |
Workweek started yesterday! It's so hard to see all the "new" girls practicing everything and not want to jump right in and join them.
|
Thanks for the well wishes and I would like to repeat them all back to the fellow chapters here at A&M! Only 6 more days until Rush starts! Fabulousness

SOO excited for GPhi extension!
Hey AggieGPhi!
I've read about the Gamma Phi colonization over at Texas A&M and I'm really interested to hear how things are going!! My chapter just re-colonized in 2000, and my fall class was only the second formal recruitment class (we call ourselves Epsilon class), so we've gone through a lot of the excitement and challenges your chapter will experience in the next few years. In addition, we just graduated the bulk of our Beta class, the girls our chapter got in it's first ever formal recruitment (the girls you will be getting within the month). Even though I'm so far away, I'd love to help in any way I can. Even though our Greek system isn't very big, for some reason UCLA formal recruitment is very intense on the sorority side. We move back into our house about 3 weeks early to learn songs, skits, and all of the million details of a smoothly-run rush. We also have a really great skit this year, and some really fun slideshow songs. I want to hear all about how things are going! |
