I don't have the skills to link the pic.. (if a moderator wants to do so please feel free) But some people are saying this SUbway ad in Germany has gone too far. Does the ad remind you of anything???

On Sept. 10, 2001, I woulda thought nothing was wrong with that.

I don't think it was intentional and I don't think it should be a huge deal.
While 9/11 did make me look at most things way different, I don't think a food chain advertisement should be one of those things. But that's just me. I would guess that some people are way more sensitive than others, esp. if for example they were in the area or know of someone who was when that occured, so I see that point of view as well. |
My first thought was Godzilla.
Does that make me unAmerican? |
How the fuck does that look like an airplane running into a building?
You people are fucking stupid to not see the Godzilla reference. |

It's not what's running into the building, it's the fact that two tall towers are on fire.
If they want to say fatty foods are crushing people, they should show people under a giant hamburger. Not just offensive, but stupid marketing. |
How is a Godzilla parody offensive?
If you wanted to find something offensive you should have gone with this: http://www.tshirthell.com/shirts/pro.../a102_b_26.jpg Leave parodies of B-movies alone, or the terrorists have won. |

See.. when you said the ad is in Germany, I immediately thought of the Dresden bombings. Had you not said anything, I just don't think I would have gotten it at all from that picture.... is there text or something that appears with the ad?

A few articles about the incident
This first ad is what put the "spotlight" so to speak on Subway's ads.
Group calls Subway ad 'unpatriotic' NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - An advocacy group Friday accused sandwich chain Subway Restaurants of being "anti-American" because the tray liners that the company is currently using in Germany display an obese Statute of Liberty and a German word that it claims is a pejorative term for Americans. http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/30/news...ubway_protest/ More Anti-American Images Found at German Subway Stores By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Morning Editor August 04, 2004 It's clearly a takeoff on the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center, and according to the Virginia-based Center for Individual Freedom, the illustration appears on page 18 of a 30-page "food diary" distributed by Subway sandwich shops in Germany. http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.a...20040804c.html |
Personally, it's much ado about nothing. I highly doubt that the Subway in Germany even thought that it was related to 9/11.
Every country has different interpretation of what that poster means. Just like many symbols in the world. |

August 7, 2004 The Tennessee Republican Party State Executive Committee passed a strongly worded resolution today calling on voters to oppose congressional candidate James Hart. Hart, a candidate in the 8th congressional district, has expressed support for a concept he calls "favored races." The resolution called Hart's views "abhorrent and outrageous" and urged all Republicans and Tennesseans to reject his candidacy" Sorry but the Republican party does not stand by him or accept him. Nice try. Let's all agree to tell these racist Democrats to stop once and for all!!!! -Rudey |
