You know you're a Theta when...
I saw this post on a few other forums and thought it would be fun to do for the Thetas, as well. I'll start:
You know you're a Theta when... Your class notes are covered in doodles of kites. Most of your t-shirts and sweatshirts have letters on them, but you're always wanting more! Whenever you hear of a famous Theta, you get really excited and think "She was a Theta tooooooo!" You find yourself signing everything "Theta Love" You start collecting anything you can find with pansies on it. |

I also do the 'oooh she was a Theta!' thing ... drives my (non-Greek) mom crazy! |
When you have your babies, the only songs you can think to sing them are Theta songs!
Once or twice a year, you type "pansy" into the eBay search engine to see what pops up. |

I memorized a Theta speech that I had to give from memory last summer, while I walked dogs every afternoon (my business). Now I still say the speech to myself as I walk... it is just automatic & I can't turn it off in my head! And whenever I hear Sheryl Crow on the radio, I have to tell my hubby "She is a Theta!" and turn it WAY up :D |
I totally do the kite doodling thing as well. Kites, kites with twinstars, kites with letters... I'm all over the place with the Theta doodles :).
Also, the shirt thing. I have about a million shirts that have letters on them somewhere, and I'm always really excited when we get new ones! Silly, how many Theta shirts do I really need, right? I also randomly break out into recruitment songs (usually it's just in my head, though so it's ok) and then they get stuck in my head for hours... And the "SHE'S A THETA" really bugs my non-greek family/ friends as well... oh well, what can you do? :) |
I do all of those things! I dont do the eBay deal that much anymore though because I'm in the process of redoing my living room, a bathroom, and another room in my house, so I'm saving cash.
I've bought boxes of tissues eventhough I didnt need them because there were pansies or kites on the boxes. i'm always on the look out for pansy and kite magnets for my fridge. I get the Theta magazine 4 times a year and stop everythign I'm doing and read it cover to cover as soon as I get it(yes I even read every name in the back of those who have donated money). The "Theta Doodles" are a big one. Since I'm going back to school I still do that.............kite doodles, pansy doodles, badge doodles, and different ways of writing our letters. As I said in another thread here, The first time I saw the pansy shower curtain in Walmart, I bought it! My bathroom is decorated with that Pansy shower curtain, a Theta candy jar that I keep q-tips in, a ceramic Theta pin box that I keep bobbi pins in, and two soaps with our letters on it as well for decor. I still have pictures throughout my house of me and my sisters at various events/gatherings doing various things :) I made a scrapbook of my first year in Theta. A scrapbook of my remaining time as an undergraduate member is on the agenda, as well as starting a scrapbook documenting my Alumnae time. (I'm also thinking about getting a trunk to store all my Theta stuff in for my future Theta legacies heheh!) |
Your at Disney world with some sisters (Keep in mind Im from Indiana) and you point out every pansy that you see
|
Here I am, 20 years out of college, and what just MADE my day today?? I found a bee-yooty-ful, hooked rug with big black & yellow & deep purple pansies ON SALE!!
What more could I ask for? :D I just love Ross. It's like an Easter Egg hunt every time I go there! |
I've had a pansy bathroom in every single house/apt/location after I graduated from college.
The most current bathroom is really nice.. it's painted a lavendar color with white trim. to decorate I have a pansy shower curtain, a pansy light fixture (found it in a designer catalogue), pansy basket to hold extra TP, and all kinds of pansy framed items hung on the walls. oh, and patti, I have a pansy rug too. The framed stuff is the most fun 'cause I have quite the assortment: std georgia o'keefe poster, antique pansy seed packets, antique pansy crate label, antique pansy can label (for melons), antique pansy print, antique pansy postards... I found a pansy choclate mold which is hung as well. It's the one room that my husband has no decorating veto power. :) -Kaokite |
I sang (and still do sometimes) Theta songs to both of my kids when they were babies.
And my 14 month old little girl has a "jersey" that a non-greek friend of mine made for her (although I guess technically she shouldn't wear the letters if she doesn't know that they stand for) and a little outfit with a kite on it. Talk about collecting pansies - when I was a collegian I had a pansy bra and panties! And yes, I drive everyone with my "Oh she's a Theta" thing, too. |
HAHAHAHA! pansy panties...............i forgot i actually have a pair of pansy panties i bought from Victoria's Secret.......I dont think they had a matching bra though cuz I know i wouldve bought it had i seen that too :)
|
*cough*
They did have a matching bra, although both the bra and panties were really impractical. I had the set. I was working at VS just after I initiated. I actually bought every single permutation of the pansy underwear they had. It wasn't pretty ;) |
Pansies everywhere!
|

I like that! If I can find a place to put that in my house I may just buy that! :) |
Over the weekend I was in Breckenridge for a Theta wedding and there were pansies EVERYWHERE. My sisters and I kept pointing them out to each other. And I took some cute pics of some of them too!
I also do the "She's a Theta" thing to no end. It probably drives everyone nuts.... |
If you have any money left.....
How about pansy car floor mats? Not black & gold pansies, but pretty close!
Pansy car mats Or a hand painted vase with pansies: Pansy Vase I wish I knew how to insert a picture! |

http://www.greekforme.com/kappa-alpha-theta.html They have Theta floor mats for your car and house as well as Theta coasters, placemats, and a whole bunch of other stuff! I havent ordered from them before though. I'm trying to check them out first. I dont know if I would want car floor mats with our beautiful crest on it though.......Especially durign winter with the snow and slush and stuff getting on it......I'd kinda feel like I was disrespecting our ritual in a way or something. |
I have LOVED reading the posts in this thread and looking at all the pansy stuff...who knew there was so much???
I also wanted to add that you know you're a Theta when you get incredibly excited to meet new Thetas. I am home for the summer and was wearing a letter shirt while I went to get coffee this morning. Two girls in Starbucks came up to me, introduced themselves and told me they were Thetas, too! One of them even had this really great bag with letters on it that gave me an idea for our chapter...Just a really nice way to start the morning! |
Quote:
I always take my letter bag with me to the airport. I'm always bound to meet one or two Thetas when I'm walking around to catch my next flight :) |
Now read this :)
Today I was browsing around Garden Ridge.........Not only did i see and purchase a framed black and gold pansy print for my ever evolving pansy bathroom (thanks Katy for the idea!), they also had pansy stamps and lots of pansy scrapbooking materials for the crafty Theta's out there.
I was also browsing around Linens N Things and Bed, Bath, & Beyond and have also found some pansy prints on dishes, bowls, mugs, and dessert dishes, and salad plates, as well as canisters. I know atleast two of these stores have websites so if anyone is interested(because I know not many if any of you live in or near Lexington) ya may want to check those out! :) |
I've done the "She's a Theta!" thing so many times that now my (non-Greek!) friends sometimes even beat me to it for the Thetas we see/hear about a lot (Sheryl Crow, Laura Bush).
Also, I totally started doing the kite/letters/badge doodling thing while I was pledging, and now it's become a habit I just can't stop. That reminds me of a funny story, the first day in one of my classes we did this introductory thing where we had to name a symbol that represented us. A Pi Phi across the room picked an arrow, and so of course I had to choose a kite. But it was a little tricky to come up with some other things that it could represent so I wasn't giving away ritual when I explained how it described me :) |
The most recent Nature's Jewelery Catalog which i received today in the mail has :
Lavender Pansy socks Pansy change purse and a pillow that looks like it has pansies on it that says " you are more special than words can say" They also have a silver ring in there as well that would be of interest to Thetas but that is all I can say about the ring here :) |
Bumping this old thread because...there's a pretty big kite festival on the lakefront this weekend, which of course makes me think of Theta :) People from all over are coming together to fly all different kinds of kites. It should be really pretty to see!
|
After i graduate from med school and have my own permanent home, i was planning to have a "relaxation/meditation" room that had theta stuff everywhere...old scrapbooks, photos, etc. We'll see what my future husband has to say about that...
but for now, i am content to have my cups and photo frames. When I was in Japan I took a picture with some pansies, the same semester as my initiation. i was soo excited-as if we don't have pansies here! |
You know you're a Theta when....
YOu get an alumnae email news letter from HQ and think it is so great that you wont delete it from your inbox :) |
Quote:
I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one that does things like this. Ha! I find it hard to get rid of anything that reminds me of Theta...I think I'm slightly OCD. ETA: I still have my kite name tag from MY bid day... |
You know you're a Theta when..........
You beg your husband to let you charge the 80 bucks to the credit card to purchase the 2006 Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Directory :) Mine came Saturday. I've had fun looking up members of my chapter and seeing where they are and what they are doing :) |

Now I feel MUCH better! Haha. I thought I was just weird keeping an old name tag because it was a kite!

I do this all the time and my husband gets annoyed. My step-daughter loves it though! :) |

How about this...you know you're a Theta when you got a tattoo of twin stars while in college AND you have never once regretted it! But don't worry ladies, it's small and in a discreet (but not naughty) location! Ha, ha. And yes, eBay is a website I patronize way too frequently! |
Quote:
My great-grand little sis in Theta :) got twin stars tattooed on one of her big toes during spring break a couple years ago. It did look cute, but tattoos are not for me. I tlooks like it would hurt and I'm a weenie when it comes to pain :) |
Quote:
Honestly, very little pain. I don't have the highest pain threshold, but it really didn't bother me! I have heard that it all depends on where you get a tattoo...an area with bone close to the skin vs. one with more 'insulation' between skin and bone. |
Well Known Thetas
Does anyone watch QVC?
Jill Bauer is a Theta, too. |
Three of the girls in my chapter got twin stars all in different locations. They all met when they joined Theta and are the best of friends. Maybe I'll get a tatoo someday, but probably not of anything Theta.
|

And while the twin stars are directly related to Theta, I have always liked stars, even back as a little girl. Anyone remember the Hello Kitty characters, Little Twin Stars? My favorites! Anyway, I would never get a tattoo of our letters, crest, or badge. Doesn't seem appropriate to me. |
