A&E Series: Growing Up Gotti, Airline, & Family Plots--Anyone Watching?

* I am sitting here watching the Airline marathon on A&E. I know that I couldn't work for an airline! This show is a trip!! Some people wild out at the airport. I would have to quit or get fired because I KNOW that I wouldn't be able to deal with some of these people.

* Growing Up Gotti premieres tomorrow. It's a reality show about Victoria Gotti, daughter of John Gotti. I can't even imagine what is going to unfold....

* Family Plots is cool. It's kind of morbid at times, but you just want to watch to see how it works.

Anybody else watch these shows? If not, y'all can delete this thread.

I watch both Family Plots and Airline. Both have me cracking up all the time. I especially like Chuck (FP) and Yolanda (A).

I'm not sure about Growing Up Gotti. From the clips, it looks like it's going to be more about the kids. What is Victoria into? Is she into fashion or something? I may watch the first episode tonight to get a feel for it.

I think that she is into fashion. I know that Lil' Kim does the theme song. Basically, I think she's trying to show another side to the Gotti family.

Don't get to see it very much, but when I do, I absolutely LOVE "Family plots". Airline is a trip too! Don't know if I'll watch "Growing up Gotti" although I'm sure it'll be quite interesting. . .

DZTUBAGIRL 08-02-2004 10:57 AM

I will admit that I have sat on the couch on a Saturday and watched the Airline marathon. I love that show! I am excited that BWI is one of the airports on that show now. I also watch Family Plots but not as much. It is kinda depressing at times. Growing Up Gotti looks like it is going to be funny. I saw a preview today with one of the kids running around the house screaming about someone using all of his gel. Looks pretty amusing.

RedefinedDiva 08-02-2004 10:25 PM

Victoria's kids seem too over the top. They act a little too... Italian for me. That blind date that Victoria went on was a mess. He was too crazy. Victoria's kids are too disrespectful. They need a beatdown from Uncle Peter. Where is their father?

That house is nice! They have no reason for that pool to be looking like that. Does Victoria have her money from her husband or from "family ties?"

Victoria's weave is ridiculous!

I didn't see the show tonight, but they were on GMA last week and their father is in jail for racketeering or something like that.

Well, I don't know cashmoney and I don't know what context he made that comment in, but I can say that I stated they act too Italian because they are playing into the "Gotti" image.

My organized crime in America class has spent a lot of time discussing the "mafia myth". Many members of organized crime are not Italian, even within the Italian families. I'm editing my paper at the moment on Meyer Lansky, definitely not Italian. A lot of organized crime groups/families/syndicates were multi-ethnic, really fascinating stuff.

I watched the show on A&E last night and I think I understand what you're saying. The way they are portrayed could easily put them on the Sopranos or in a Godfather movie. I am sure there is a lot of creative editing going on.

The Airline show is insane. The way people act is just ridiculous. So many of them screw up and miss their flights. I don't care for Southwest at all, and luckily living on the west coast I can almost exclusively fly Alaska Airlines. Alaska really takes good care of you if there is an overbooking, and even when I have missed a flight for various reasons, had extra luggage or overweight luggage, or almost anything they have been wonderful. The Southwest passengers that carry on need some personal responsibility and manners.

Thank you for understanding. The blind date guy was telling Victoria about the way that she acted. He was aggravating and I DEFINITELY would have cut out of that date early also. Then when she made the comment to the limo driver about "rolling him out," she made me  I think that want to uphold the "mafia" image, without being directly linked to it.

This is so true! I know that man missed his flight because he was at McDonald's. There is no way that he could have been standing "right there" and missed his name being called. If he was "right there," how did EVERYONE else make the flight except him. He didn't see people walking through the jetway? I am a paranoid flyer, from the airport to the airplane. I don't want to get left behind, so aside from being SUPER early, I constantly ask if my flight has been called for. I try not to leave the gate area.

What's funny is that people think that because their flight leaves at 7:00pm, they have until 7:00pm to get to the gate. Then they have the nerve to be angry when their plane is gone! Most of the time, it's their own fault.

Southwest needs to do something different about overbooking those flights! I would NOT be a happy camper knowing that I booked my flight months ahead and someone else got my seat just because they checked in before me.

This is interesting as when I fly in Canada, the 'departure time' is REALLY when you board. Being used to this, this almost bit me in the butt once in Minneapolis and I was on the phone thinking I had time, but they were calling my name - and did I ever RUN! :D

It's cool, you don't have to explain anything to me. People of all races and ethnicities can make ignorant remarks.

Well I believe in symbolic ethnicity. Meaning that people behave certain ways to reinforce their understanding of their ethnicity.

As if we are God's gift to the earth.

Lady Pi Phi 08-03-2004 10:56 AM

I caught the last half of "Growing Up Gotti".
I kind of feel sorry for Victoria. She's a single mother with 4 boys. That's enough to drive anyone crazy. And her boys are so disrespectful. The part where she was standing in the kitchen on mothersday and saying the she was glad she didn't have to make breakfast and she was glad she didn't have to hear any fighting when 2 of her sons start attacking each other.
Her kids are obnoxious brats. I hope their uncle beats some sense into them.

Are you calling me ignorant? I hope that's NOT what you are doing. I'm not the one.... Secondly, I would NEVER have to explain anything to you. I can defend and clarify ANY statement that I make, regardless of where I make it and whom I am speaking of. Get your mind right.

Who called you ignorant? Some might say you are acting black now.

Not sure, but I have a large group of Italian relatives (100% Italian) and none of them are anything like Gotti. Maybe they're not Italian enough?

Yep, I act BLACK 24/7! Why? Because I AM BLACK.

The same way you took my remark as "ignorant," is the same I took it as you calling me ignorant. You are the only one that came in the thread with some nonsense. I am not going to continue going back and forth with you over your comments. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to my "ignorant remarks." If you don't like them, don't read them.

KSigkid 08-03-2004 12:23 PM

I don't know about the "troops" being called in. I've posted before on this board and routinely look at all boards for interesting topics. This was one I found interesting, since I had been debating whether or not to watch the series.

All I was saying is that being part Italian with many Italian family members, your comment caught me the wrong way.

ETA: Looks like the post I responded to was deleted.

I never said your remarks were ignorant. Some might say that though. Hey if you don't like my remarks, don't read mine. I didn't tell you to stop posting and you do well to showcase your talents on your own.

And I'm sure quite often when people refer to someone acting black, they refer to them acting ghetto.

I said people (not just referring to your post). It's really quite simple.

So what is acting black? I've always been interested if maybe I can watch a Nelly video and act black myself or perhaps what it is that I can do to "act black".

Yes, it was deleted because it was going to be replaced with something else. However, I chose to let it go because it wasn't worth it. I know that you have been over before and appreciate your comments to my post. It's unfortunate that people may have taken my comment the wrong way, but hey. There are millions of comments made on GC that people find fault with. Everyone's entitled. I do appreciate your comment though.

People in general.... OK, my bad. Usually when people quote your post and make comments, they are not "in general." Guess I was wrong.

Yeah, watch a few Nelly videos and you can pick up a few pointers. Try "Ride wit Me" and "Midwest Swing." Those are my favorites.

OK well it's good to know you're proud of what you say and don't mind others reading it so that in the future people like hoosier can tell you acting black is about rap videos and welfare.

And by the way, let me repeat, I said "people". Perhaps it would do you some good to look up the definition of people and understand it is more than one.

i just pm'd you...figured it would be easier than going back and forth on the board

RedefinedDiva 08-03-2004 12:58 PM

Thank you. I could care less about what hoosier or anyone else has to say about rap videos or whatever. If people (in general) can't see the sarcasm in my post, then that's too bad for them. People (in general) have been battling one another's comments on GC for years. That won't ever change. I did not attack anyone's ethnicity or background as hoosier and other people (in general) may have. I have no problem clarifying my comment to those who want to know. Actually, I already did that, but maybe it was overlooked. However, if people (in general) want to turn this into something different because they are bored or whatever the case may be, then it can continue without me. It's pointless.

Thank you again to everone that responded. If anyone wants to discuss MY comments with me, then feel free to PM me. Otherwise, we can finish discussing Growing Up Gotti, Airline, and Family Plots. Or the thread can be closed.... Whatever happens is cool.

Rudey 08-03-2004 01:02 PM
