Delta Zeta Trivia

Hi Ladies,

I noticed that the Chi Omega forum has an occasional trivia question posted about their sorority history and thought it might be a fun idea for us to try! (Chi Omegas - I'm stealing your idea! sorry!)

So, for the first trivia question, I'll start out relatively easy. Of which fraternity was Dr. Guy Potter Benton a member?

Good luck! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

KillarneyRose 05-16-2001 06:07 PM

Oh geez, I am SO rusty on my DZ trivia! Was he a Phi Kappa Theta? I need to dig up my pledge handbook if I'm gonna play this game!

Nope! Keep guessing! I'll tell everyone the answer on Friday! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

KillarneyRose 05-17-2001 09:47 PM

OH! This one I know! Old Rose and Vieux Green http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

And my new answer for your first question about Dr. Benton is....Phi Delt??? I'm pretty sure it's Phi-Something! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

In the meantime, here's another one:

What are Delta Zeta's official colors? (hint: need to be more specific than "pink and green")

dzrose93 05-19-2001 12:19 AM

Way to go KillarneyRose! You were right about the colors. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif And your second guess about Guy Potter Benton was correct, too. He was a Phi Delta Theta. See, you still remember the important things! heehee

I'm happy my idea is spreading. Keep up the good work ladies. I hope I can learn something about your sorority through this.
Sisterly Love,

dzrose93 06-12-2001 11:11 AM

You can add anything you like, KillarneyRose!
I'll answer 1 and see if our other sisters can come up with the rest!

dzrose93 06-14-2001 10:03 AM

Way to go ladies!! (By the way, welcome to the board, purpleturtle! I haven't seen you post before.) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Next question:

Who was the first Delta Zeta pledge?

Honeybee 06-14-2001 02:19 PM

I belive the first pledge was Elizabeth Coulter.

I have another question...it's kind of a hard one though :-)
Why was October 24, 1902 named as the date of our founding???

purpleturtle 06-14-2001 03:23 PM

I know- it was set as that date because it was Alfa Loyd's b-day!!! It was done to honor her dedication and service.

Thanks for the welcome- and don't give me too much credit for knowing this. I initiated last fall and as part of our new member education program, we had to each pick a founder and learn specificly about her, sharing what we knew with our new member class. I learned about Ms. Loyd!

Hello Dee Zee sisters,

I have a new questions for everyone....
In what year did Delta Zeta become a member of the NPC?

Good Luck!

dzrose93 06-27-2001 02:42 PM

I think I know! 1910... Am I right??

KillarneyRose 06-27-2001 02:46 PM

I am thinking 1910 as well!

purpleturtle 07-03-2001 04:52 PM

I am not trying to be pretentious, but I love this thread. It makes me proud to know all of this stuff!!!! Anyways, if I may, I have another question that my new member mom had to look up!!
How did the founders go about choosing our colors?

delta1902 07-03-2001 05:48 PM

1910 is right for the last trivia question. Good Job!!

dzrose93 07-17-2001 01:33 PM

I have no idea how the Founders chose our colors. Someone please enlighten me! My memories of pledge education classes must be fading! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

purpleturtle 07-17-2001 05:45 PM

The founders chose their colors by matching swatches of baby ribbon at a local department store, untill they found a suitable combination.

I have a question that maybe someone can answer me. In my New Member Ed. classes, I was taught that the official colors were Old Rose and Vieux Green. However, in our new member manual, they are listed as Rose Pink and Nile Green. Any ideas as to why?

In the Flame,
Missy

Honeybee 07-17-2001 11:45 PM

I heard lots of stories about how our colors were chosen, but I never knew about the matching of ribbons in the store...it's always interesting to find out new stuff like that. I heard that the colors were chosen based on our flower. They thought that since the pink kilarney rose was pink in color with a green stem, it would be a suitable combination as the sorority colors. I also heard something about our founders having a gathering at someone's house (I can't remember which founder's house they were at) but it was their first meeting together and the carpet in the room was pink and green so they chose that as the colors.

Hi Missy,

I was always taught that the colors are Old Rose and Nile Green. Perhaps there are 2 terms that mean the same thing for each color? It's a good question to ask National Headquarters, I think! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

dzrose93 07-18-2001 02:59 PM

Here's a new trivia question for you!

Which two people wrote the Delta Zeta ritual in 1903?
