No honestly, I don't understand why people listen to it. Can't you still love God and listen to the Top 40? |
I enjoy Slayer. They're Christian rock right?

I think they listen to Christian rock because they like hearing references to religion and dont want to hear songs about sex. -Rudey |
i have been listening to Christian rock music since i was 9 years old. i have hundreds of cds by Christian rock artists.
It is okay if you do not like it, cause it is not for everyone. i listen to all kinds of music. a lot people think that because it is Christian, that it cannot be real rock. but there are many Christian rock albums that are absolutely amazing. XM Satellite Radio has its on Christian rock station. side note- you can praise God and rock out at the same time:D |

Newsboys performing at the Ohio State Fair August 9th free concert....my roomy is excited and I like their stuff too.
Heck I listen to a little of everything. Can't really tell the differance unless someone told ya that its "good music" |
Quote:
ahhhhh!!!!! i have been listening to Newsboys since elementary school!!!! i love love love love them. favorite christian rock artists 1)newboys 2) dc talk 3) whiteheart 4) jars of clay 5) switchfoot 6) steve taylor 7) audio adrenaline like mainstream music, i am more into the old school christian music. new stuff is not favorite |
Please tell my Pentecostal mother in law and her congregation that! She told me "you don't understand"
And she wonders why I am agnostic! :D Quote:

When I was in college I interned at a very cool station that was (is) a Christian rock/rap/etc. format. Radio U
Christian music has come a long way from Stryper. :) |
I hope this doesn't sound sacreligious, but I feel uncomfortable watching the advertisement for the Christian music CD, "Worship Together" because they show clips of people at various concerts and most of them look like they're making the "O" face.
That just doesn't seem right to me. |
So what's your favorite CD to hook up with people? I bet Jars of Clay has some good rhythms and can help get the ladies all red in the face.
-Rudey |
LOL at the "O face."
But you're right, KR:) |

Silver Turtle when I saw the name Stryper I burst out laughing. When I saw the thread title Christian Rock I automatically thought of Amy Grant and how much my RA loved her music. Yes Silver Turtle it has a evolved some. |
I'm suprised no one has thrown in a Simpson's quote....
"Everybody knows that the best bands are affiliated with Satan.":D Ah but seriously I tend to like my entertainment secular, as I consider religion something personal. |

And they're are some pretty awesome Christian rock groups in my opinion- like Skillet and Relient K. You should check 'em out. |
Also, in my town we have Air-One, a national Christian radio station that plays Christian rock. We've also got K-Love, it's sister station. Air-One is a little more youth-oriented, more rock. They're both contemporary Christian music stations. Anybody else listen to either of them?
|
Surprise, Surprise
Christian music is all I listen to now. Rap, rock, contemporary - everything. Why, I'm listening to Switchfoot right now. :)
Its all the same (beat, tempo, etc.) except for the lyrics. Here is Kansas, we have a bus load of Christian oriented stations - K-Love, American Family Radio, Air-1, along with locally owned stations ran by churches and such. I think I may play Superchick next. |

very cool. i like skillet too. some people do not understand. but there is just something about contemporary christian music that just makes you feel good. it gives you a kind of happiness that you can't get from any ole music. don't get me wrong, i love jessica simpson, christina aguilera, stone temple pilots, etc. but i still have to listen to dc talk, michael w. smith, audio adrenaline,....too:D |
I like christian rock but I'm more of a Praise and Worship person. Give me some Vineyard, Donnie McClurkin, Chris Tomlin and the Passion people, Third Day, MercyMe, SonicFlood, Hezekiah Walker, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Mike Redman, Caemon Call, Cross Movement and I'm good. I like secular music but the cds I've bought lately have all be Christian except for the Roots (and Jill Scott when I get some extra money)

I thought it would be an oxymoron.
Isn't Rock synonymous, with booze, sex, violence, and drugs? I mean without those things whats the point? I mean it would be like making Gospel music about whoring. It just ceases to be gospel music at that point. |
Quote:
oh geez, you sound like my southern baptist high school. you are correct in saying that Rock is synomous with sex and drugs. i just look at Rock for the music. shall we call it 'guitar driven christian music'? anywho, there are some amazing bands out there that are too hard for the straitlaced gospel crowd, but it has to appeal to the young crowd somehow. |

i LOVE him. i have his cd and video, 'squint', and i adore it. he is so strange and his lyrics are crazy, but they are really powerful when you listen to it closely. he is a genius.:D |

I got to work for him during a summer festival in PA. This is a man who is comfortable in his own skin. I've been a fan since "...Clone" (Fav song: Harder to Believe than Not To from "I Predict") Did you ever notice ----- he couldn't carry a tune in a Kate Spade but he's got some of the best lyrics out there? ;) --add |

so true. he writes and produces some amazing stuff for other artists too. i wish he got more recognition then he did. he deserved it. man, this wants me want to change my signiture to a steve taylor song. i need to go look at that cd.....:) |
I've heard Christian Rap . . so i guess all things are possible.

I dunno.
When you take out the extreme violence, drugs, hatred and misogyny from Rap it just seems inspid. Quote:

LOL. if you only knew what you were missing. i have a couple of christian rap cds that are really good. it gives you a whole new outlook on rap music. even if you didnt pay attention to the God parts, you would be really impressed with the lyrics and skills...i mean 'skillz' :p ooh, i forgot to add raggae to that list of music types |

Wow, never thought I'd see someone posting about Skillet. I've been to a lot of their smaller concerts through the years. Their newest CD, Collide, is extremely good in my opinion.
I really like a lot of all types of Christian music. Everything from Skillet, Kutless, and Switchfoot to Bebo Norman and Caedmon's Call. Ah, good stuff. Jason |
Does anyone else like Bethany Dillion besides me? :( Granted, its not rock, but I love her! :)
Rachael Lampa's Blur CD is also very nice (more pop/r&b/rap remixes of her songs). |
Kind of on the same page as KR with the "o" face...
Some of these "I love you so much Jesus" songs really sound like songs about making love to me. There's a religious station in Milwaukee that's between the country station and the Top 40 station I alternate between, and sometimes one of the songs on the Xn station sounds like Boys II Men "I'll make love you to you" or "I Melt" by Rascal Flatts - it's a little creepy. |

i like Rachael Lampa. ...Stacie Orrico too. |

**ears perk up** Really??? Who? What Where? Normally I would agree with James on this subject. Never listen to Christian ANYTHING and kinda feel a little strange when I do listen to it... like I should be in church or something. Not in my car jamming to it. But if they have Christian Trance music... sign me up! BTW... did not know Switchfoot was considered Christian rock. |
Quote:
there is a christian dj by the name of scott blackwell that does house/dance/funk music. people do not think it is possible with christian music, but it is. there are other artists, but my head is killing me, so i cannot think. When Switchfoot came out in 1997, there were known as a Christian Alternative band. not really rock and roll. it has a little pop edge to it, just more guitar driven. alot of people do not realize that Switchfoot is a Christian band or the fact that, "The Beautiful Letdown" is their fourth album (i think). |
I am just CTFU .. .
I am visualizing dancing to a song like "Back that ass up" in a really suggestive way but hearing Christian Lyrics . . . hmm I hope they don't mention the manger scene . . . hearing about sheep in a song to that tune would just do me in. "Back that sheep up . . ." baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! |
Quote:
haha you are so hilarious. there is more to christianity than singing about sheep |
