Carmello Anthony: We will win the Gold
Now, I'll admit, I haven't seen the rest of the competition, but I can't believe people doubt that this team won't at least win A medal in Athens.
Who cares if we don't have the majority of first choices? This is a young, dedicated team that WANTS to go there and represent their country. Hell, even IVERSON is committed to this. I'm not saying they're going to run away with the gold; the this team HAS only been together for a few weeks as opposed to the other national teams who've spent years together, but give me a break. I'd rather have this team then the first choices who, if had gone, would have done it against their will (basically). |
Who knows? Like you said, these other guys have been playing together for years. I think the Pistons v. Lakers proves you can't win it all on talent alone.
It all depends on how these guys work together as team players. The rest of the world has really been catching up talentwise. |

It will be interesting to watch this team. If Larry Brown can have them playing the type of defense that Detroit used during their Championship Run, I can see them going for either the Gold or Silver Medal.

Who are going to be the starting 5 for the US this year?

C - Tim Duncan F - Amare Stoudamire F - Carmelo Anthony G - Allen Iverson G - Stephon Marbury I'm not completely sure, but looking at the roster that looks like the most likely starting 5. |
Don't forget Larry Brown has the help of Coach Pop! The last two coaches that have won the NBA Title! Go Team USA!

Hopefully they'll play better than they did against Italy today... a disapointing showing to say the least.
|
Italy pissed me off the way they play. Drive the lane and just dish out EVERY FREAKING TIME! how many Threes do u think they made... probably 75% of their points...

dude, that's international basketball - imagine 30 teams playing the Princeton offense, but with better talent and all year to train. The USA is in some deep shit, even with significantly better talent at every position . . . The US better start getting away from the bullshit NBA ball, start passing and defending the perimeter, and hit the friggin boards, or they're in serious trouble - 15 for 35 is solid, but hardly unheard-of, 3-pt shooting. Especially w/ the shorter International 3-line . . . ugh, god this is why i far prefer college basketball |
