T.D. Jakes' Woman Thou Art Loosed ~ The Movie
Check this out - when you can turn it up and listen to what's going on in this trailer.
Click on the link below to see the trailer! In case you haven't heard T. D. Jakes is releasing a "Woman Thou Art Loosed" movie. The movie was first previewed at the MegaFest. Hope you can view the trailer. The release is scheduled for October. http://www.reallygoodfilms.com/trail...oosed_high.wmv The trailer does not work for me :( but here is an article: WOMAN THOU ART LOOSED Michelle Jordan ..... Kimberly Elise Cassie ..... Loretta Devine Twana ..... Debbi Morgan Todd ..... Michael Boatman Reggie ..... Clifton Powell Nicole ..... Isalis DeLeon Pervis ..... Sean Blakemore Eli ..... Ricky Harris Bishop T.D. Jakes ..... Himself A young woman's ordeal with a legacy of rape, abuse, poverty, drug addiction and prostitution is bluntly conveyed in "Woman Thou Art Loosed." Frankly religious and therapeutically intended but confrontational and stylistically unvarnished, indie production is notable for Kimberly Elise's ferocious lead performance and for the bigscreen exposure pic affords the charismatic Bishop T.D. Jakes, who plays himself and upon whose works the film is based. Considering Jakes' wide following, pic should find a sizeable built-in audience among the church-affiliated Christian public, and to a certainly extent beyond that in the black community, before moving on to a sturdy run in homevid. Opening with the startling scene of a woman making her way to the front of a giant religious revival conducted by Jakes and firing several shots with unseen results, Stan Foster's screenplay recounts the downward spiral of Michelle Jordan's (Elise) life and her halting efforts to reclaim it when the pastor wins her a furlough from prison on condition she attend one of his three-day revivals. |

Whew i saw the trailer and i cant wait unti this comes out!
|
|
Saw the preview at the He-Motion service in LA. Looks like it will be interesting.
|
I heard the preview on the radio this morning. I saw the stage play a few years ago and honestly cannot imagine it as a movie. I probably won't go see it.
|
Ideal: when it pertains to the play, is it as "chitlin' circuit-ish" as the radio ads sound?

This is why I can't imagine it done on film. This morning on the radio, Loretta Devine just sounded like she was onstage. I just can't see it as a movie. I need to see a preview on the TV to see what it even looks like. |
The TV commercials don't look all that bad. They only show on BET here. Does anyone know if this will be released nationally, or will I have to wait for video?

ETA: article with Bishop Jakes about the movie: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ilm_t_d__jakes Movie's website: http://www.WTALthemovie.com |
Is this movie going to be shown at all theaters or only certain ones, and if so where can i go a get a list of where it is playing at and what time?
|
I checked the theaters in my region and it will not be showing this Friday. Unless they are still updating, but usually they have the schedules for the entire week including the new movies coming out. :( :( The closest one to me is in another state.
It is a limited release. You can check the wtalthemovie.com website and it will list the theaters. |

Two thumbs up.... The movie was really good. Personally, I think everyone should go see this movie. I don't want to say too much for those that haven't seen it yet.

I did not make it as planned over the weekend but I have a 5 day weekend coming  :D so this weekend I shall but according to Yahoo News, WTAL was #6 this weekend which is EXCELLENT considering it only open in 408 theaters!!
|
I wonder how they decided on which theaters to show the film at. It's only shown in 1 theater in Chicago and 3 theaters in the suburbs. I'm surprised that the usual places that show independent films aren't showing this movie. I think it's great that Oprah gave a plug for the movie.
DSTinguished1, try fandango.com click or enther name on the film titleand enter your zip code. That will tell you if the film is playing near you. |
This is on my list of movies to see. There is also a book (seperate from the original) out in stores.
|
I saw it over the weekend and I thought it was pretty good. There were a couple of corny parts, but good nonetheless. It was definitely emotional. I missed the first 3 minutes (the foreshadowing) or so (I was hungry, y'all), so the ending was a total surprise for me. I think I liked it better that way.

GOOD MOVIE
the movie was GREAT! The beginning of the movie was breathtaking...it kept me intrigued the whole time.
|
For everyone who saw the movie, was it better, worse, or the same as the stage production from a few years back?

i cant say worse or better...but the play set the scene better to me. It's like in the play i sympathized with all the characters and I actually felt emotions and it made me cry a little. However, the movie was good, it just didnt evoke the same emotions if that makes sense?
|
I just saw the movie. It was just okay to me. I like the story line but it just seems like something was missing from the movie. DSTinguished, I feel the same way you do. The movie really didn't evoke any emotions in me. Maybe it was the way it was directed. I don't know. I think Elise did a great job though.
|
The movie was just released in my town. I think I'll go see it sometime next week.
|
I haven't seen it, but it got an okay review here--2.5 stars out of 4.
Excerpt from the StarTribune: "...Elise ("The Manchurian Candidate") does a wonderful job of tapping into her character's painful psyche. But as a viewer, we're frustrated by Jakes' repeated interruptions. He's a forceful preacher, but the abrupt changes in focus derail the dramatic momentum Elise works so hard to generate. Jakes deserves applause for daring to break from the typical wholesome style of religious filmmaking. He's trying to reach an audience that normally avoids proselytizing films. And he ends the movie with a plea for victims to report cases of domestic abuse, followed by directions to a Web site that includes links to agencies offering assistance. Good intentions. Wish it were a better movie." |
I never saw the play but did see the movie when it was first released. After all the hype I was totally let down by it. Perhaps it was too much action in such a short period of time or other factors that made it so unrealistic to me...while Elyse Neal gave a strong performance there were other aspects of the other performances that annoyed me...don't want to get into too much detail in case someone that hasn't seen it yet still wants to go. I'm all about supporting black cinema but I could have easily waited for this to come out on video.
I don't know if the play opened the way the movie did but I think it was the opening that made the ending so anticlimatic since we already knew what was going to happen. It could have easily been a great movie..instead its just ok. |
