What do you remember about when you first met?

This is just a random idea I had for a new thread...

In short, how did you meet your current significant other, and what sticks out in your mind from that meeting?

I met my boyfriend at work (which was dining services on campus) and the first time we actually got to talk, I remember he hadn't been feeling too well and he told me how he has an "iron stomach" so when he feels sick it usually means he ate something really, really bad. It's not really romantic or anything, but I just remember that for some reason.

PureGoldF2K1 07-27-2004 01:34 AM

I met the guy I'm dating through Greek week! DPhiE was paired with Pika, his fraternity, for Greek Sing and he ended up being my dance partner which led to him being my date to formal which led to more :D

Gotta thank the Greek system for a good hookup! (That's where my last boyfriend of a year and a half came from too...not greek sing, but a mixer...and he was a great guy!)

BabyP 07-27-2004 03:36 AM

Hmm I thought he was trying to look down on my breasts cuz he is really tall, I was talking to my friend's boyfriend and i kept pulling up my dress and holding my cape/jacket together (it was a semi formal event) lol, he said he didnt check me out but was listening to my convo. I still dont believe him

Completely the Greek System - she's an Alpha Phi, I'm a Kappa Sig, we became friends through that avenue.

After a couple of years, we got together, and that's how it happened.

Well we orginally met as kids because his cousin (now my brother in law) was dating my sister. However, I have no recollection of this. So we met again for the second time a few months ago. All I remember is staring at him saying 'I have no idea who you are'.:p

ISUKappa 07-27-2004 09:36 AM

I dumped the better part of a bottle of beer on his head. On accident, of course!

We met at a bar my senior year of college; one of my favorite bands was playing and he had come over to Ames to visit one of his friends (who also happened to be a mutual friend of mine). I saw our mutual friend, talked to him for a bit and then he brought me over and introduced me to Mr. ISUKappa. I thought he was cute, he gave me a beer (they had like 20 lined up on the bar behind them) and I went back and sat down with my girls. About 30 mins later, I feel this tap and he's standing there, asking me to dance. By this time we were both feeling pretty good, so I say what the heck and we spend the rest of the night talking, laughing, drinking, dancing and enjoying each other's company. At one point, he dipped me, while I was still holding my bottle in the hand that was behind his bed, and it went all over his head. We managed to laugh it off and I gave him my number at the end of the night. Three days later, he called and the rest is history! We'll be together for 4 years in Nov. and married 1 year in Sept.

Oh! And evidently, we met the summer after my freshman year when I was living in a fraternity for the summer. He was again visiting our mutual friend and he supposedly spent the better part of the night hitting on me, which I have no recollection of whatsoever. But that's not saying much, I don't remember much from that summer at all!

One of my sister's was always talking to me about her cousin and how he wanted to meet me. I was in a relationship at the time and every time we all made plans to go out, things always fell through. My sister brought him to my graduation party. He tells me he hated me when he met me because he thought I was rude because I complained that he lived far away in Long Island and it is a trek to get there. Actually I was complaining because I was always invited to his band's shows but they were so far away in Long Island, I told him to book a show in Queens then I would go. It was interesting because we got together a couple weeks after I met him for the first time, what made me like him, cheesy as it sounds, but my sister was talking about how her cousin had told her he wished he could "fall in love" like everyone seemed to be around him. I thought it was sweet because it showed he was willing to settle down and how many guys actually will ADMIT they want to fall in love?!

One of my sorority sisters introduced me to my now-husband during my freshman / their sophomore year of college. I have absolutely no recollection of this - he was a friend of my sister's, nothing more.

During my junior year, he got a group of friends together (including my sister) to watch a TV program that I happened to like too... unfortunately the program conflicted with another TV program that a lot of people on my floor liked, so I was outvoted for the floor lounge TV, so I wound up joining up with this other group. I had to borrow a tape from him to catch up, so I got to see his dorm room, a really small single where he'd lofted his bed, stacked his bookcases and mini-fridge very efficiently, etc. I remember commenting on how well he'd arranged things in the limited space he had. :p

A few months later, after I'd gotten rid of the psycho I was dating and he got rid of the Wellesley chickie he was dating (who was just using him so she could go to senior ball  ), he and I got together, and the rest is history :)

I met the love of my life in High school at a football game. I was talking with a friend (who happened to be his best friend) and he kept following us around becuase he was painfully shy and didnt know what to say. We ended up dated for almost 2 years, but broke up and just got back together recently. We are not happily discuccing (sp) wedding plans and how OUR house will be.

Rio_Kohitsuji 07-27-2004 12:40 PM

When my boyfriend and I met we shook hands w/the incorrect hands. I had a cell phone in mine and he had his art stuff in his.

winneythepooh7 07-27-2004 12:51 PM

he says I was being rude to him,

Why do boys always say this? Mine said the same thing (scroll up) LOL:D

You know, I am also extremely sarcastic. So is my boy. I know when he is being sarcastic but he can't tell when I am. Is that a good or bad thing?

You just probably need to spend more time together. My boyfriend and I used to have problems telling when we were being sarcastic with each other, but now we have no problems differentiating between when we're serious and when we're sarcastic.

We met because his fratrenity asked me to be their Homecoming Queen and he got suckered into being their king.

My first impression was "Cute, but needs a haircut."

I found out later he lived across the hall from my best friend/boy I was totally crushing on. :o

By the way, he got a haircut. :D

Me and my Kappa Sigma man met during Meet Market(aka Meat Market---we take our new girls around fraternity row to meet the guys).......ended up just talking till 3a.m. ! The rest is history!

I knew a bunch of Sinfonians since nine out of the thirteen-man pledge class lived in the guy's side of my dorm.

A sophomore caught me in the dining hall, and said he had two friends he wanted me to meet. Both of them (and my friend) were dressed in white shirts, black coats, black slacks, white socks, skinny black ties, black shoes, black hats, and dark sunglasses. One was realllly skinny, the other was kind of huge.

My friend introduced them as the "Phi Mu's brothers". -sigh- Their mission? Get a couch for another brother for his dorm room. So there ended up being six Sinfonians (two were pledges) and one girl in an Oldsmobuick driving around town all night. My original friend was one of my groomsmen, the skinny guy ended up as my husband, the larger guy ended up as our best man, and the guy driving the car was my other groomsman.

Two weeks later another two pledges invited me to the house to play D&D-- with the larger guy as our DM, and my husband as one of the players. We also shared calculus with the same prof, so we studied together and I'd occasionally attend the later section (his class).

Wow.. I met my SO a loooong time ago. I don't remember the "first time we actually met"... but I remember my sophomore year.. before school started I saw him at marching band practice. I thought he was a cutie.. and he was really quiet which made me even more interested in getting to know him.

It turned out he was a friend of a friend, and we all just started hanging out together in the band hall. I remember thinking "that guy is going to be my boyfriend someday" lol

He graduated at the end of my soph. year, but stayed in the area and went to a local university... and I asked him to my junior prom.

We went on dates after that during my senior year... and I went to the same university he did, and we started "officially" dating my freshman year :)

ADqtPiMel 08-05-2004 11:55 PM

I met him in 8th grade English class. I was the new girl and was seated next to him. We talked all the time, became good friends, and eventually started dating junior year of high school.

a flat tire...

My sweetie works for a skate park design company and travels all over the country building skate parks that he has designed for communities and private people. I work as a service advisor for a mechanic's shop. He was on his way from Houston, TX back home to Ohio and he had a flat tire. He stopped at my shop to get a new tire and I wrote his service order. I got his email address from an online search. (I had seen his company name in his car on a piece of paper.) I emailed him and on June 16th 2004 was our one year anniversary of the day we met. We are happily doing the long distance relationship thing and it works for us. He comes down here every 2 or 3 months and I go up there when I can.
The thing I remember the most is that he kept pulling at his jeans. They were falling off of him!!! I also noticed that he stuttered a little because he was nervous. = )

We originally met online via a yahoo group. We chatted for about a year and then he traded in some Frequent flier miles to meet face to face.

I think he remembers my dress (which he loved) and the hairstyle (which he hated)

I remember his warm smile.

That was November 1997, and the rest is history. We married in December 2001

I was really, really drunk at a sports bar making out with my neighbor and I saw him. He has the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen, so I started talking to him later that evening.

Edited because he still has his eyes, really.

GMUBunny 08-13-2004 12:49 PM

Mr. Bunny and I met through his best friend, who had the hots for me. Robb and I were sitting on the couch watching TV when Chris came home from work, and I just remember thinking "Sweet Jesus, that man is HOT. Thank you, Texas!" He smiled at me and we just started talking and hit it off from there. Things were never going to work out between Robb and me, and we both knew it, so a few days later Chris and I got together and we've been inseperable ever since.

One of my girlfriends (ex-sorority sister, call her "Kay") had graduated and was working in the Chicago area and I was still in Bloomington with another girlfriend (another ex-sorority sister, call her "Jenn") and Kay invited me and Jenn up to spend New Year's Eve with her and some friends. Kay was dating this guy, we will call him "Jim"! Anyway, Jenn and I get up there and we meet up with Kay and Jim. Since I hadn't seen Kay in a while, I ask her about her relationship with Jim and she says they are coworkers and they aren't "together" but dating! So, the New Year's Eve festivities begin and we are all having a good time. Jim is nice, but seems shy. Later on, he was really rude to me! I'm not sure if it was the drinking, but he was kind of short and snotty to me! I just blew it off and stayed with Jenn most of the night.

The next morning, Jim takes us back to Kay's house and we all say our good-byes since I had to be back in Indiana the next day.

Well, Jenn graduates and also moves to the Chicago area, leaving me in Bloomington! It is now August and she invites me up to spend the weekend with her and Kay. The day before I head up there, Jenn sends me an email saying that Jim has been asking about me! I just about died when I read that! I thought he didn't like me at all! It had been the beginning of January when I last saw him so, now I am five kinds of freaking out! I get up there and hang out with the girls the first night and the second night, we meet Jim at a bar in the city. It was weird at first, but turned out to be cool! From that night on, we have been together ever since...it took about 8 months, but we got there! We will be celebrating our one year anniversay in early September!

We met through a mutual friend. I worked with his best friend at the time. I was his date for the prom b/c his date told him she'd rather go alone.

Our first date was at a Dodger game & we haven't looked back since. It's been 6 years & we're still together. He said he knew I was "THE ONE" that same night b/c I saw & recognized Rick Monday. He actually thought I was one of those girls who claims to like sports to get guys interested. He was surprised to find out that I not only loved my sports, I could go head to head with him on stats & stuff.

I really hate guys like that....but then again I don't blame them, most girls just do it to get theguys intrested....I am one of those girls who knows and loves my sports. My guy isn't into sports that much, althogh I go head to head with his uncle all the time

I met my guy at Hillel, and right away I was able to open up and talk to him, but I never saw him as anything more then a friend, if that much. He flirted with me from the start, but I never flirted back, thinking no way in hell would I ever look at him like that.

Then we started having these long convos late at night ending 5, 6 in the morning, and I realized we had a lot more in common then I thought, so when he asked me out again, I went for it. It's been a drop over two months, and I couldn't be happier that I gave in to that one date that he wanted.

norcalchick 08-15-2004 08:00 PM

We met online. There aren't that many people from our area on that site so we would just talk as friends. He asked me if I had eve been to a shooting range, I said no, and he said that if he was ever going to go, that he'd invite me. One day we were both bored online and he wanted to go shooting because he was bored and invited me. I said sure cause I was bored and I wanted to try shooting a gun :D . So we were to meet up at the shooting range which was ina city half way between us. I was a lil late cause I got a lil lost. He wasn't that upset cause it wasn't an actual "date" just friends. He wa thinking of leaving, but was like "eh, I'll just wait a lil while longer and just shoot anyways since I'm here." When I showed up, there were only like 3 guys there and one of them (him) had a shaved head and he was facing the other direction. He turned around, and I was like "ooh. He looks good." And he tells me how when he first saw me, he wasn't sure if it was me cause in my pics I had blonde hair and then I had brown hair. Then when he realized it was me, he said that he forgot what his own name was! He says, "When I saw you, it was like an angel had fallen from the sky with how gorgeous you are, and how your my Ideal Woman. I forgot what was going on and even forgot my own name!" We had a good time at the shooting range, and I remember that like I would put my hand on his arm, like in a flirting way, but I wasn't trying to. You know how when you like someone, you feel this need to touch them or something. I wasn't TRYING to flirt cause we had been talking as "friends". When we were finished, he was so nervous (which is very rare for him) asking me if I wanted to go back to his place and watch movies adn hang out some more. I said sure, and followed him back. We picked up some stuff at the store and. He showed me his (ours now :) ) place and we started watching some tv, and ended up turning the tv volume down because we were talking so much. We stayed up till 4 a.m. just laying there talking. We didn't even watch the movies. We eventually fell asleep and I had to wake up so I could go to class the next morning. So we got bagels, and ate them at the lil park that is by the beach. And when I left, he gave me 2 lil tiny kisses. He said that he wasn't sure what to do cause he didn't want to seem too pushy or anything, but wanted to show me that he was interested in me. It was so cute. 7+ months later, we're happy as can be. It was funny, he was talking to a couple other women when he went out with me. And as soon as I left, he told all the women that it was over with them, in hopes that something could start with us, even though we never even planned for another date :D . That was definitely love at first site.

My boyfriend and I met through a mutual friend. I am the type of person who notices details. We still joke about this, but the one thing that stands out about the night we met is the shoes he was wearing. They were the ugliest pair brown of loafers I have ever seen a 20-something year old wear… to make it even worse they had tassels. Needless to say after we started dating the “tassel shoes” soon found their way into the dumpster.

KillarneyRose 08-28-2004 03:43 PM

It's strange, but I can clearly remember the first time I ever set eyes on Mr. KR (13 years after the fact!). I remember thinking he was so cleancut and wholesome looking with his military haircut (at the time and place, most guys my age were walking around with slightly longer hair, greased straight back gelled to death and spiky). Also, I was impressed by his incredibly good posture.

He says the first thing he noticed about me was my, um, chest. I prefer to think it was my sparkling personality :)
