Who smokes cigs?

Just curious.

CSUSigEp 07-22-2004 11:06 AM

not I. Used to but they made me sick all the time...

_Opi_ 07-22-2004 11:12 AM

I do, unfortuantely.

Lady Pi Phi 07-22-2004 11:20 AM

I do.

I've tried quitting. I quit last month for a week, then something bad happened and I started up again.
If I'm going to quit I don't think I can do it cold turkey.

APhiRattlerGal 07-22-2004 11:23 AM

I do but i've cut down A LOT!! My goal is: by graduation i will be smoke free

OleMissGlitter 07-22-2004 11:30 AM

I quit this past Feb. 3, 2004, through a program at Ole Miss for employees and students! I'm happy to say I'm still smoke-free!

_Lisa_ 07-22-2004 11:33 AM

I've quit, but I wish I still smoked. I miss cigarettes.

_Opi_ 07-22-2004 11:55 AM

^OleMiss,

Care to share what the program is about? (for a wanna-be quitter)

DGqueen17 07-22-2004 12:32 PM

I want to quit. It use to be I only smoked when we went out. Now I find myself smoking a lot. I don't even think about it being a problem but it really is. I want to quit but I guess I'm afraid that if I quit I'll gain weight because I'll eat more.

I have a stupid view on life, I know.

Unregistered- 07-22-2004 12:37 PM

I do too. Since I was 17, tried quitting cold turkey 3 times but no luck.

DeltaSigStan 07-22-2004 12:41 PM

Only when I'm drunk.

You have no idea how wierd it feels to wake up and find a pack of cigs that you know are yours but you don't remember buying.

If I'm sober, the buzz is way too harsh, even from Marlboro lights

I don't get how people love 27s much less Reds...that stuff knocks me down for the count.

ISUKappa 07-22-2004 12:51 PM

I used to all through college but quit when I met my husband.

Sometimes I really miss it, but mostly I miss the physical act itself of smoking and the social aspect of it. I hated how I felt in the morning if I had a half-pack the night before.

IowaStatePhiPsi 07-22-2004 01:04 PM

sometimes when at the bar or a party I'll have one with someone else when they step out- otherwise I dont.

When I was in Spain we had Borros (sp?)- took the tobacco out of a cig, melted a small chunk of hersheys chocolate into it, wrapped it up in zig-zag paper and smoked it.

No, it's not stupid, it's a legitimate fear. That's why a lot of people are afraid to quit. No one wants to out on weight.

_Opi_ 07-22-2004 01:25 PM

DGQueen,

Why don't you start working out. Build that habit and start reducing the amount of ciggerettes you smoke. That way you won't gain as much. But I've read some articles that said that the fear of gaining weight is psychological, but I've read otherwise too.

NickLc24 07-22-2004 01:29 PM

Nope, don't smoke. Pollution is bad enough!

I suppose it is psychological. But I think a lot of people do gain weight because they substitute food when they have a cigarette craving.

Ames, Iowa is ranked the least smoggy metropolitan area by the American Lung Association. Yay- healthy lungs for me!

CSUSigEp 07-22-2004 02:02 PM

Since when is anywhere in Iowa a metropolitan area?

I know thats the most logical thing to do......I just am too lazy to actually do it I suppose.

SiKeS 07-22-2004 02:27 PM

cigarettes...yuck.

Jill1228 07-22-2004 03:44 PM

It is definitely a legitimate fear! I gained weight after I quit smoking 7 1/2 years ago

Ditto.

And don't let the Iowa kid lie - DBQ is NOT a metropolitian area. It's like a suburb with no city.

thermobryan 07-22-2004 08:36 PM

Im quitting....for a girl....

cash78mere 07-22-2004 10:18 PM

Yay!

I never have smoked in my life, and I don't intend to start

Xylochick216 07-23-2004 12:13 AM

I've never smoked. I'm allergic. I hate going to the bar and having to leave after 20 minutes because I can't breathe and because I have a headache.

Come to Cali, its illegal to smoke indoors.

preciousjeni 07-23-2004 04:32 AM

Ughh! I started smoking at 15. First it was Newports, then Marlboro Reds, then Camel Filters, then Camel Lights/Ultra Lights. I quit earlier this year, but crave ciggies every day of my life!!!!!

I smoke to someone who quit like 15 years ago and she said she STILL has cravings, especially when she smells smoke. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

ms_gwyn 07-23-2004 04:48 AM

i smoke.....been doing it for years....i made a promise to quit (which i've yet to complete)

its an addiction and oral fixation for me.

i'm a bundle of contridictions for example: i actually hate everything related to smoking, the smell, the smoke, the taste....yuck! i'm working and people come up to me smoking i ask them very politely to put it out, i start to gag. people who know that i'm a regular smoker (at work) shake their heads when i do this. no one in my social circle smoke so i dont smoke around them.

hell i dont smoke around my parents (i'm in my 30s), neither does my sister....we see it as very disrepectful, my dad smokes and my
mother quit sometime in the 80s.

yes i know that i'm strange

You know, I'm kind of the same way. I don't like people blowing smoke in face, I never smoke around my parents (they don't know I smoke...if I want a cigrette I take a walk...I never do it around the house).
I didn't start smoking till I went to university and I always hated smoking.

It's illegal to smoke in restaurant, bar, casion, etc, etc in Toronto now. So, if I'm at a bar and want a smoke I have to go outside.
A lot of cities in Ontario and B.C have these laws. I'm not sure about other provinces.

Things are a little "different" in Iowa.

pixell 07-23-2004 10:57 AM

I'm allergic. I got used to it for a little while because I dated a smoker..but now I get sick if I'm around it for very long. Even if I'm just around it a little (walking past someone smoking) I get headaches. It sucks.

I'm the same way. I smoke, but I hate all aspects of it, like the smell and taste, etc.

My mom and dad know I smoke... My mom smokes with me. But my dad hates it! Everytime I talk to him on the phone he asks me how I'm doing on quitting... And my grandparents don't know. They'd kick my butt if they found out!!

I need to stop... I hate smoking... But it's too damn hard to quit.
