Andrew Lloyd Webber Appreciation Thread

You know you love his musicals. Love Phantom.

AlphaFrog 07-19-2004 07:57 AM

I have "El Fantasma de la Opera"...the Mexican cast. It's awesome, I almost enjoy it more then the English version.

I also really enjoy Joseph adn the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

P.S. "Phantom" is a compleatly different musical then "The Phantom of the Opera"....but since this was an ALW thread, I knew what you meant.

_Lisa_ 07-19-2004 08:58 AM

Starlight Express. My favorite, hands down.

Lisa Fishman 07-19-2004 09:03 AM

"Cats"- Now and Forever! then for second place "Starlight Express" third, "Phantom" London cast was awsome!

Having played in pit orchestras for local awards shows, Andrew Lloyd Weber seems to have written about 99% of the music we played.

Cats, Phantom, etc. All good stuff for letting the recipient know we need to cut to commercial :D

Well of all things can it be really?
No, yes, ho hi, oh my eye.
My mind may be wandering but I confess
I believe it is old Deuteronomy.

My favorite song from Cats.

I prefer Maxwell Sheffield.

I loved Phantom of the Opera. It's the only play I've ever been to.

Well yeah... but I've never been to either one! It was quite an interesting experience!

Musicals are food for my soul. :D I'm glad you found one you can enjoy!

DeltAlum 07-19-2004 03:13 PM

Am I the only here who saw Whistle Down the Wind? Saw it in London. It was fun.

I find all of Sir Lloyd Webbers musicals to be somewhat alike -- but very entertaining.

Have seen,

Jesus Christ, Superstar
Joseph
Starlight Express
Cats
Aspects of Love
Phantom of the Opera
Evita
Whistle Down the Wind
Miss Saigon (oops, not an ALW Show -- See post later)
Sunset Blvd.

And will probably think of a couple more.

I understand he will have another premiering soon.

I want to have ALW's babies! (Yes I know he's 60-something)

I have seen:
Phantom (twice)
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Cats
Evita
JC Superstar

I want to see:
Miss Saigon
Bombay Nights
Sunset Boulevard

Well, he seems to pick up a new wive every 4 years or so. i think that 4 years is about to come. :)

AlphaFrog 07-19-2004 10:05 PM

Sorry I'm so Musical-Theatre picky (blame it on my voice teacher...)

Miss Saigon is NOT ALW...it's Cameron Makintosh (Boubil & Shoneberg...[sp?]), along with Les Miz...

Evita and Superstar I've only seen on video, but I loved them...

Phantom OTO I got to sit so close the second time I could feel the heat from the pyros...it was awesome!!

Ahem... he's now Lord Lloyd-Webber - he was granted a life peerage by Queen Elizabeth II a few years ago in 1997. (A life peerage is more prestigious than a knighthood, as a title is actually created in the rank of Baron or Baroness and the honoree becomes eligible for membership in the House of Lords.

Like a knighthood, life peerages are not inheritable and cease to exist upon the death of a life peer.

[hijack]

So, I have a question for you then...because I've always wondered this...what exactly is the order of ranks and what do they all mean??? (Ex. Duke/Dutchess, Baron/Baroness, Marquee/Marquesses)

King/Queen
Prince/Princess
Duke/Duchess (in German, Herzog/Herzogin)
Marquess/Marchioness
Earl/Countess (in German, Graf/Gräfin)
Viscount/Viscountess
Baron/Baroness (most Life Peers are created at this rank) (in German, Freiherr/Freifrau)

Baronets are not considered peers.
