Cruelty to Kittens

I am not a cat person, but this upset me so much so I'm going to unburden myself on my fellow GreekChatters.

There was a mother cat and 6 kittens (they were tiny, maybe 3 weeks old) who had made a home under the outside stairs at the marina clubhouse in our community. Everyone's pretty much left them alone except to leave food for the mama.

This morning, the caretaker found the kittens. Someone had run them through with wooden stakes (probably stolen from a house being built nearby) so they were stuck to the ground then the raccoons came and ripped them to shreds.

The caretaker said he'd never seen anything so horrible. Those poor babies :(

honeychile 07-16-2004 07:47 PM

That is perfectly horrible!!!! There's a special ring in Hell for people who would do that to a helpless animal!!

Nikki_DZ 07-16-2004 07:53 PM

I am by no means a cat person, but this is one of the saddest things I've heard in a while. :( If they find whoever did this, they'd better do some serious pyschological testing. Sounds like a future serial killer to me.

bruinaphi 07-16-2004 07:57 PM

That is one of the worst animal cruetly stories I've heard. I think I am going to be sick.

PhiPsiRuss 07-16-2004 07:58 PM

That's really horrific. :(

Munchkin03 07-16-2004 08:04 PM

I don't like cats at all, and this made me sick.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-16-2004 08:10 PM

Poor impaled kitties. :( This type of animal cruelty is a sign of mental problems.

Cluey 07-16-2004 08:28 PM

That's just horrible! I will never understand how someone can hurt a poor, often defenseless, animal.

James 07-16-2004 08:31 PM

Well in this case, they held the kitten down and drove a spike through them I guess.

I guess I forgot to clarify my statement. I meant I will never understand what goes through someone's sick, demented and twisted mind that makes them think hurting a poor, often defenseless, animal is something that's amusing.

James 07-16-2004 08:44 PM

Ahh, I think its the same urge that has people be routinely mean to others on internet message boards. The ability to inflict pain with relative anonymity and a lack of consequences.

piphimaggie 07-16-2004 09:36 PM

:( I love kitties. I cant believe someone would do that to a bunch of defenseless animals......was the mother murdered as well or just all the babies?

.....I hope I never see that, I'm not so sure I could take it

AlphaSigOU 07-16-2004 10:22 PM

Sick, demented, heartless and cruel... people like that should be shot on sight, drawn and quartered, beheaded and burned at the stake!

tinydancer 07-16-2004 10:25 PM

I agree, Brother Chuck. That just makes me cry.:(

Well, I personally would have suggested running him/her through with a stake and leaving him/her for the raccoons, but that's just me.

But that's just horrible. Like everyone else has said, that's a sure sign of some serious psychological problems, in addition to being just plain awful.

Jill1228 07-17-2004 12:17 AM

Co-sign! Bastards! What a sick f*ck! Animal abuse one day, serial killer the next

Poor little kittens! How could anybody be so heartless! I hope whoever did this would get a taste of his or her own medicine!

 :( :o  :( :o

I don't know what happened to the mother, she apparently wasn't found with the others. She was a pretty cat. The neighborhood kids called her "Tigger" because she was gray with black stripes and looked, well, like a little tiger :(

A neighbor who lives right by where this took place said that he had his bedroom window open last night and he was awakened around 2ish by what sounded like a child screaming. He says he wishes he would have called the police but he thought it was just a catfight. I think that's the saddest part :(

piphimaggie 07-17-2004 01:15 AM

oh my god....that is just unspeakably awful. poor, poor babies. *cries*
I hope whoever did that dies in a similar manner

FiReKraCkEr 07-17-2004 01:17 AM

Oh my word, that is so sad... they so need to burn in HELL!

KSigkid 07-17-2004 02:22 AM

I hate cats...like I really would NEVER have one for a pet.

Still, that's a horrible story.

winneythepooh7 07-17-2004 07:34 AM

OK I go from laughing at BabyP's sex stories at 7:30 AM on a Saturday to this horrible stuff. I don't understand people like this. I hope they get a stake through them and it is very slow and very painful.

That is F'ing sick.

PS. The people in your neighborhood are morons. Instead of leaving food they should have taken the cat/kittens to a shelter.

aephi alum 07-17-2004 01:54 PM

Poor kitties. :( I hope that mama cat is somewhere safe, and that the sicko who did this rots in hell.

madmax, sometimes shelters either don't have room, or they will euthanize the animals if they're feral or if they're not adopted out in a certain period of time (kittens tend to get adopted, but few people want to adopt a full-grown cat). So I can see where people might have been hesitant to call a shelter. Still, :(

DZTUBAGIRL 07-17-2004 02:04 PM

That is really sick, I can't believe how people suck!! I personally am a dog person but I can't see any animal being hurt.
This is kinda off topic but there is a cat that is hanging around my apartment and I feel really bad for him. I don't think he has been a stray for long because he is not really skinny. Well i felt sorry for him and fed him but now he won't go away. He keeps trying to come in my apartment but I can't let him in, I'm not allowed to have pets. I don't know what to do. Should I not feed him and hope he goes home? Any help would be great!

ADqtPiMel 07-17-2004 05:45 PM

Poor baby kitties. :(

Munchkin03 07-17-2004 05:47 PM

Stuff like this doesn't happen in good neighborhoods. :(

Looking back, you're right. :(

I think the reason the neighbors didn't take Tigger to the pound is because she seemed very domesticated. She liked to be petted and have her tummy scratched and she liked to play. I guess everyone thought she had a home but was an "outdoor cat" and didn't want to take her to the pound in case she belonged to someone.

I know someone posted fliers around the neighborhood looking for an owner.

KillarneyRose 08-24-2004 06:02 PM

I have an update on this situation, but it's pretty upsetting.

A landscaper who was doing work for a family that lives about a mile away from me and he went into the shed to get something and noticed a rotten smell. He found the decomposing body of a cat and called the police because he saw that a sort of noose had been fashioned around its neck.

When the county animal control officers arrived, they found what they believe is the corpse of the mama kitty whose kittens were tortured and killed last week (ETA: it was actually last month). Like I said, she was found with a rope around her neck and it appeared that she had been swung around into stationary objects. Her eyes had both been gouged out and twigs had been shoved into her vagina and anus.

I can't believe something like this happened in my neighborhood. Oh, and the 14 year old who's family owns the shed admitted that he and a group of his friends decided to do this "just for fun". His father, who is a very prominent attorney in Annapolis was heard to say that "They were only stray cats, who cares?" I was talking with one of my neighbors at the beach today and she made a comment comparing the mama cat with a Baltimore City welfare mom who spits out kids when she can't take care of them. It's hard to shock me, but I was rendered speechless!

What the hell is wrong with people???

(although, in fairness, the vast majority of neighbors are AT LEAST as upset with this as I am)

Rudey 08-24-2004 06:07 PM

WTF?!?! This is like the shit that I can't even think of. OK someone kicks an animal...I can see someone being messed up like that. But who the hell is this sick to do that??

Peaches-n-Cream 08-24-2004 06:37 PM

Isn't this how serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer got their start?

alphaiota 08-24-2004 06:43 PM

i sure as h*ll hope they press charges. i don't know what the laws for animal cruelty are in your state, but i hope they nail the bastards. i can almost guarantee you that if PETA hears about this, they will be on them like white on rice and won't ease up until someone pays dearly. (hint hint maybe a couple of us can report this to PETA)

ps - yes that is how some serial killers have gotten started

Actually, it can be. I could go hunt down one of my Abnormal Psych casebooks to find specific examples, because I've read some scary ones. There is plenty of research to support the theory that children who start by torturing and/or killing animals would eventually start torturing and/or killing people.

Who cares? Well, society cares. I'd hate to see that dad have to represent (or prosecute) someone accused of such a crime, especially if it turned out that the defendant started by torturing and killing small animals during his or her youth.

alphaiota 08-24-2004 08:36 PM

scares me to know that the father is so apathetic about it. where exactly did this happen?

I am appalled over the actions of the kids who committed the atrocities and the attitudes of the attorney and KR's neighbor.

You would think that, since the boy's father is a prominent attorney, he would know that something probably isn't right with his kid. I seriously hope someone gets this kid into counseling or something.

For those who read my post about the bunny beheading... well that happened in Rockville. I seriously doubt it was the same kid that did it due to the distance, but it's an odd coincidence that these things happened at roughly the same time in such relative close proximity.
