Its collars up fellas

I went up to school for a week to do some recruiting for my fraternity at freshmen orientation. Like each class there is a new fashion statement. A few years ago it was the trucker hat cocked to the side, and now we have the polos with the collars up. Last time I saw this style was in the 80's and on my German TA. I thought this was a pandemic to the region around my school but no, Low and behold walking through Georgetown I counted 8 guys with the collar up. Personally im all about the collars down but to each is own.

Rudey 07-16-2004 01:30 PM

It never stopped being big in preppy circles and Georgetown has a huge amount of preppy kids.

--Besides when the collars pop, the panties drop as the saying goes.

IowaStatePhiPsi 07-16-2004 02:00 PM

the collars up thing is about as cool as Michael Jackson sleeping with your kid. (IMHO)

Peaches-n-Cream 07-16-2004 02:07 PM

People are rocking the popped collar on the Upper East Side. When I told me friend's daughter that as a pre-teen I had owned a bunch of LaCoste shirts in a rainbow of colors, she was so impressed with me. Sadly, I got rid them (and my acid washed jeans  ) a few years ago. :(

the Anti-Popped Collar Club

Godfather Marshall began the club in an effort to end all popped collars. He, unlike many college kids and Jamaicans, realizes that the popped collar does not make a person cool. Conversely, it makes a statement that the person sporting the look "sucks at life in every aspect."

hehe...I love the tee shirt. I know at school lots of guys wear their collars up, especially this one fraternity on our campus (I think they ALL wear their collars up...) I don't really get the whole "collar up" thing, but it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. (Though the first time I saw guys wearing it that way, I thought they just forgot to put their collar down...hehe :D)

swissmiss04 07-16-2004 07:07 PM

I'll take the preppy popped collar look over the nasty trucker hat and f-ed up jeans from A&F look.

aphibeach 07-16-2004 08:51 PM

blades up (or wearing your collar up) is very popular at my school.....girls do this as well as the guys.

Here as well! Rizzo even did it in Grease, come on.

I wore my collar up to work one weekend with a very appropriate outfit and my coworker who went to a TTTTTT school nearby asked me what it was supposed to mean. BLEAH.

And that shirt is fabulous.

winneythepooh7 07-17-2004 12:34 PM

It looks okay on certain people (the way younger crowd). Actually a lot of my clients have done this but many of them need assistance in dressing and just didn't realize their collar was supposed to go down.

lol! Maybe some of these people I've seen with their collars up are your patients. :p

It's funny. I see these teens with their popped collars, and they think that they invented a new way to wear their polo shirts. I guess its better to follow this trend than to get another hole in their heads or elsewhere.

LOL. I agree, my younger sister told me and my mom she wanted to get a small pierced stud in her cheek and we almost died. My parents still don't know about my tattoo and I'm 28 LOL.............

Munchkin03 07-17-2004 01:03 PM

2 polos, blades up on both, is great.

But don't mix brands, okay?

aphibeach 07-17-2004 04:01 PM

what also became popular at our school (mostly with the girls) is wearing a polo shirt with blades up and then a letter shirt over it.....of course both have to be fitted but it looks cute, well until it hits about May and then it's just humid and gross and less you wear the better

emperorclb 07-17-2004 04:48 PM

I have havent seen the pop collar yet, Im sure people do it around me but I hardly ever pay attention to the thinks people do to their clothes any more after I saw the hudge T shirt look and the dudes wearing all pink.

The dudes wearing pink is the worst thing I ever saw, I would never let any one convense me I looked cool pink. It just dosent look right. Next thing you know they'll be saling womens clothing in the mens section cuz everything will be unisex design.

NO MORE!

It deeply saddens me when I see a really good-looking guy with a popped collar. :(

Haha.

I am straight. I just don't dig the popped collar! ;)

Lil' Hannah 07-19-2004 09:27 PM

I'm sick of it already. When you go out to the bar and every douchebag is walking around with his collar popped, it loses its effect.

MattUMASSD 07-19-2004 10:44 PM

what sad is when I see 10 year olds popping their collar and cocking there hat

steelepike 07-21-2004 02:59 AM

You better be keeping my sister impressed. :)

HotDamnImAPhiMu 07-21-2004 09:50 AM

when i read "collar" a bunch it starts to look weird.

collar collar collar collar

ADPiShannan 07-21-2004 09:56 AM

No offense to anyone, but I can just see my campus this fall when freshman move in starts end of Aug. Collars up, rainbow colored polos for the guys, short short skirts that are cotton for the girls. I bet there will be more things too that wed see. I almost wish I was still there so I could help with freshman move in like we always did.

Youd see so many things youd want to laugh at but youd refrain till you werent near the frehsman and their parents. Gotta love fads. Keeps the fashion majors having things to discuss.

Gotta love Abercrombies website. They have the collar polos for you, the short minis, the legwarmers lol, they have it all.

aphibeach 07-21-2004 10:28 AM

^ oh i will see it all

the fraternities and sororities help out with freshmen move-in every year

APhi Sailorgirl 07-21-2004 11:28 AM

The possibility of seeing what the freshman wear could give me enought ammo to go back to school that day and help out.:p

Hmm, might be hitting up a sister for housing those couple days.

norcalchick 07-21-2004 02:30 PM

i wonder if the girls will be wearing uggs with those supershortyoucanseemyass skirts and popped collars?

I don't see why not! :p I'll be helping with move-in and acting as a fall mentor (helping the freshmen register, etc.), so I'll get to see it all. Goody!
