My AI Journey Begins

I just wanted to let everyone know that my long, but I hope, rewarding journey into AI has begun.

I have a reference from an out-of-town friend in the group I'm interested in, and their alumnae affairs department will send information to both of us. After we both review it, we're supposed to contact our person for the next step.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Keep us posted and if I can do anything to help, feel free to PM me

tinydancer 07-16-2004 11:21 AM

Welcome aboard! There are a lot of helpful sisters here. Feel free to pm any of us if you have questions or need help.

Good for you! It sounds like you have a nice starting point! Good luck from a former PNAM!

The Road can be long and Ardious!

But, never give up, you have been able to see the many who have worked long and Hard to acheive the long Journey and Finally Become Sisters Of Very Prestigious Sorrorties.

It was a lot easire to go through as a New Frosh.

But, the Proof is in the pudding, Those that have worked long and Hard who attained:)

Never is a long time, so, never give up!

The B Girl 07-16-2004 07:19 PM

Good luck to you. I hope the best for you in your AI journey!!

ms_gwyn 07-16-2004 08:56 PM

Just remember that while you are taking this journey you will not be alone.

May your journey be as long or short as it needs to be.

If you need someone to talk with, feel free to PM me.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all the kind responses.

LouisaMay, how's it going with "Little Women"?

I'm keeping in mind that all this is indeed a process, and not something to take or be taken lightly. I've wanted sisterhood since I was in college, but feel much more confident about pursuing it now that I'm older and, I hope, wiser.

I'll let you know how it goes, and I'll ask LOTS of questions.
:)

PS: Jill, glad to see another Beta on this thread!

ragtimerose 07-21-2004 10:29 AM

The next step has taken place. We received the information, and my friend has contacted the alumnae chapter here on my behalf.

Now the fun begins. Waiting.

navane 07-21-2004 02:09 PM

That's cool. Hopefully the first steps won't be so slow since you're being introduced to the alumnae association by a sister. I found that GPhiBLtColonel's efforts to put my name forward to sisters in my city made things go a whole LOT faster than had I waited for some random people to get around to it.

Thanks for the swift update! :)

.....Kelly :)

ragtimerose 07-22-2004 08:42 PM

What I'm worried about, sort of, is that things are moving a little TOO fast, but being introduced by a sister certainly is an advantage, isn't it?

Being introduced by a sister certainly doesn't hurt and don't worry about moving too fast. Just make sure that you have all your questions answered and relax and enjoy yourself.

Tom Earp 07-23-2004 04:40 PM

ragtimerose, you are to worried about things moving to fast??

Go back and reread some of the PNAI and see jsut how long their journey was.

I think navane holds the record!:( But Now=:D

I really feel, that because of events on GC that many Greek Orgaizational Memebers have started checking out Their Respective Soroities and have found, Yes, there is AI opening up a whole new avenue for women who could not join as an undergratuate.

There are many Women on GC who have expressed the joy of Joining a Soroity and all are very involved. Just read and see what the feelings are!

Please feel fortunate that yours is moving a lot faster!:)

I've been invited to my first event Tuesday night! I hope it will be a success for me and the sorority. I can't wait. It's a makeover and massage night, and it sounds like lots of fun.

I'll let you know what happens.

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-10-2004 11:47 PM

Sounds great!

ragtimerose 09-13-2004 10:54 PM

I just found out that the massage/makeover night got indefinitely postponed because of Ivan. Maybe next time...

trojangal 09-14-2004 06:17 AM

hang in there! good things come to those who wait!

I'm patient. :)

rho4life 09-14-2004 06:11 PM

My advice, start a journal, and write down your feelings during this transitional time. Take lots of pictures too. Looking back in a few years, it will help you to be a better sister if you can go back and re-examine what your worries and concerns were, and you will be better able to relate to new members.

Good Luck :)

MelodyCat 09-15-2004 08:56 PM

Oh, no! I've got a lot of friends on the Gulf Coast, and they've evacuated a lot of folks. I hope it won't be too terrible for you - stay safe!

CatStarESP4 09-18-2004 01:24 AM

Good luck in your journey!

ragtimerose 01-31-2005 02:04 AM

Thank all of you for your kind thoughts along my road to AI. I haven't heard from the sorority in a while because of holidays and such, but I hope to hear from them again after Carnival dies down here.

I did attend my first event, and I enjoyed myself. I hope that I will be invited to others, and will get to know the sisters a little bit better.

ragtimerose 12-03-2005 01:55 PM

An update...

It's been a while, and my AI search has been placed on "hold" for personal and other reasons. (Her name's Katrina.)

But I'm ready to continue my search now, and can't wait to see what the future holds.

betasigrose 12-03-2005 02:33 PM

I'm here to support you, sis. I'm behind you!

JennRN 12-03-2005 02:52 PM

Keep us updated!! I can't wait to hear how your story progresses.

Jill1228 12-03-2005 11:15 PM

I am behind you too sis!

ragtimerose 12-03-2005 11:51 PM

Thanks for all the support! Katrina put a crimp into things, but I'm ready to jump right back into it with a lot of enthusiasm...not too much, but just enough, I hope.

Ragtimerose, I know what you mean. When I would go to an event, or plan events with my alum group, I would be so excited!! I would want to plan every detail!! But I didn't ever want to seem too pushy or too over the top, lest I offend the sisters, or come across as Psycho PNAM. I always felt like I was walking a fine line. The day I got my official letter though, boy did I let loose!! Now I let my excitement and enthusiasm show-and I've heard alot of positive comments about it-like, boy you are just now a sister, and you have already jumped in head first!

So I guess my point is, let the sisters see your excitement! They'll know how much this means to you! ( Sorry if I'm rambling, I just don't know how to express it clearly to get my point across :) )

Anyhoo, best wishes to you-hugs for the hard times-and keep us updated!! We're behind you all the way!

ragtimerose 12-04-2005 03:07 AM

Hi to you, Jenn!

I also deal with social anxiety (as in, the disorder, not the general anxious feeling), so it's difficult for me to interact sometimes. I know what you mean about drawing that fine line. I'm so afraid of coming across as Psycho PNAM that I'm afraid I may turn some people off.

I'm learning to deal with that anxiety in small doses, but it still gets to me sometimes.

I've just ordered a journal, so I'll be writing my thoughts in it as my AI search progresses. Journaling is quite therapeutic, I've found out. Thanks to rho4life for the suggestion!

Thanks for your support!
