Favorite type of bar
What's your favorite type of bar?
My vote goes to "billiards bars". |
Give me a good sports bar any day. Or a dance club. :)
|
Martini bars (mmmm...chocolatinis) or dance clubs.
|
Not sure if bar is the right word but I like places that have live music, a chill atmosphere, not a lot of smoke, a place for the grown and sexy, lol.
|
Dance clubs
|
There's one that I go to on Tuesday nights- on weekends it's more a leather/denim and the crowd is mostly older.
On Tuesdays the crowd is mixed with everyone from guys that just turned 21 to cigar-smoking ladies in their 60s. If I want to have a good time just chatting with a stranger and go somewhere where (almost) everyone knows my name- that's the place to go on a Tuesday night. |
ALL OF THE ABOVE.
God I love being 21. |
Straight-from-the-UK pubs, especially if they have Strongbow on tap.
Otherwise somewhere where we can just hang out and drink without having to shout or be pawed and shoved by sweaty people. |
I like sports bars & dance clubs. Sports bars for when I want to watch some baseball ;) & drink a few beers & dance clubs for when I want to shake my ass!
|
sports bars and pubs are my favorites

mmmmm Strongbow. that sounds good right now. |

All though every once and a while I want to go to a place where I can dance. |
I like the bars that have warm, cheap beer, shitty music and easy women. Great pool tables are always a plus.
|
I like pubs... it's something about the atmosphere.
I also like bars attached to restaurants. They tend to be quieter, and if you get the munchies or you just don't want to drink on an empty stomach, you can order some real food. I do not like sports bars, dance clubs, or anyplace where the music is so loud you can hear it three miles away. I like to be able to hold actual conversations with my friends when I go drinking. |

I like some live Irish music too. |
Since I just turned 21 seven months ago, I am still a big fan of the college bars. Its funny though that you end up seeing all the people who you were partying with as freshman at the bar...its like they just took the exact same party you went to for years, made it legal
the most interesting bar experience ive had however was when I accompanied one of my sisters to a Serbian bar in Pittsburgh for extra credit for one of her classes. it was people of all ages, literally from like 21 up to 81 year olds and everyone was mingling with everyone else. seemed like it would have been fun if i hadnt been such an outsider!! |
Jazz Bar
Also, a nice chill bar where I can sit down and not yell at the person next to me. |
Co-sign to not having to yell at the person next to you. Overall, I like lounges and pubs...depends on my mood.
|
1. Irish pub
2. Wine Bar 3. Blues bar |
I've always liked Hershey Bars.
OK, then... Actually at this point I like Irish Pubs, although someone above mentioned "College Bars." I've gotta agree that when I was in college, they were great. |
I've always been a big fan of Pubs... Brit, Scot or Irish.
A Tex-Mex Bar is also cool, as is the old stand by up here in Canada - The Legion :) Haven't been interested in College Bars in a while.. too old... and the ones around here have pretty much folded over the past four years. |

I like chill bars that have a dance floor too. There's a cool place in SF called the Luna Lounge wher one side is a bar w/seating and the other room is a gallery until about 10pm. Then, it turns into a dance area. There's a back room that plays different music as well. You can hang out in different areas depending on your mood.
|
I like clubs if and only if they play good music and have a decent atmosphere. I'm also a big fan of hotel bars. They tend to be decorated nicely and not over-crowded. Jazz clubs are nice too -- the Green Mill in Chicago is a classic.

But that being said I do know the newest manager (well as of the last time I was by) and he is a friend so I hope that he is allowed to "encourage" the old atmosphere to come back... though I stick by my assertion that the dance music crap killed the "festhall" atmosphere and attracted a "thug" element to the bar... |

Not that I have anything against Frozen Pink Lady Jellow Shot Mud Bottomed Marmalade's or other "trendy" college drinks, but I like cocktails that have survived the test of time. We have a great bartender at the clubhouse in the golf course community where we live. The man does pour a good drink! Oh, but the hotel bars do tend to be expensive. |

Ouch! That kind of what happend at Guelph when they turned the Keg (Brass Taps) into a non smoking bar. People just stopped coming. Thursday used to be the busiest nights and it was packed by 8pm. It go so bad they had to make saturdays all ages nights. |
there's this bar thats about 5 minutes from my house that i absolutely love to go to. it's an big irish pub that is kind of like a sports bar on one side with dart boards and pool tables and then on the other side is this huge lounge room with big velvet couches and chairs
on Sunday nights they do $2 Miller Lite pints and kareoke......it's the highlight of the weekend for me and my friends but i also like to go there during the week too because it's very chill. up until this past spring, the bar was known for it's older crowd but younger people have started to go there. if i'm not at that bar i mentioned, then i'm at the beach bars which are 2 miles down the road. they're very laid back and chill and i love the people who go there. it's a mix between college students, locals, and bikers |
I don't really know how to classify it... but there is a bar in Old Sacramento that reminds me of Fridays. It's four stories, has 3 bars, a dance floor the size of my bathroom, and a game room (pool, darts, etc.) But the atmosphere and decor remind of Fridays and all those other restaurants that have vintage posters, bikes, car parts, etc hanging/dangling from the walls. You can write on the walls too. It's fun... crowded... but fun.
And I love pubs, kareoke bars, and funny little dive bars where I can know everyone's name... ;) |
I like the brewery/billiards bars, like the one I work at. I also like the fact that another bar is connected to our buiding, so when I take a break from work I can go next door and listen to a live band.
|
I like open bars where there is no cover or bars that have drink specials. Sometimes I get lucky find places like that. I am sick of drinks costing $10 to $12 each.
|
Places that aren't too loud, sticky or full of creepy people. SO yeah, the pricier places. That's why I almost never go out-LOL
|
i also like one of the bars downtown by us. it was Hell's Kitchen on Dawson's Creek and when the show ended, this restaurant owner came in and bought the place.....all the original set stuff is still there.

I'm a fan of this place in Indy called Chumleys Grill. It's 21 and over, but they serve food so my parents just think it's a restaurant that I go to a lot when they accidentally open my credit card bills. ;) It has pool tables, big screen TVs and the best bar video game ever, Golden Tee! It's not really a sports bar, but they always have the Cubs game on and it's kinda like Cheers, except darker. :)
Now if I could find a place like that in Cincy which wasn't all 40+ I'd be happy! |
Depends on what mood I am in as well:
Quiet Chill relaxd evenings? I am a sucker for hotel bars as well. We usually hit the Westin La Cantera. Its 5-Star and sweet. I am all about the Texas Colonial Style. Drinks are kinda expensive, but its a huge property and at about 2am, the fun thing to do is to hit the hot tub. www.westinlacantera.com http://www.westinlacantera.com/san_a...s/f_dining.jpg If its all about 'a nite out' then we'll hit "Howl at the Moon" and go crazy. Its a piano bar thats fun as hell. It was described in the local paper as a 'frat party" scene, except for adults. You have 21 - 60 year olds in there. Ive never been and not had fun. ITs also one of the stops for out-of-towners. If we want to go out and have fun but not be over the top, we'll do Pat O's. Can get have fun in a cool environment drinking hurricanes. They have that awesome patio with the flaming water fountain. If we wanna go someplace where it dosent matter what any of us look like we hit Baker's. Its a hole in wall not to far from here where everyone from this side of town goes and its the chill spot with $2 drink specials every night. Guranteed to bump into people you knwo or went to college with. Its the only place around here thats going every night becasue its real popular with the service industry kids. If we just want beer, we head to The Flying Saucer. www.beerknurd.com They have a really cool outdoor patio and they have 300 different kinds of beer. If we want pool, we'll go to Fox & Hound. (someplaces its called Bailey's) Finally, sometimes were in a mood for the dive bar. We have a full list of those as well. Helotes Country Club, The Silver Fox, The Rib Train, Tuckers, Hills & Dales, etc. |

    $12??? WTF are you drinking? anyways, Lincoln has "O" street, and most of the bars there are "college" bars I guess. Personally I love (at least during the summer now) places with Beer Gardens. There are two bars that are particularly known as "Greek" bars. One is on O street, and has a bunch of big booths you can fit 5-7 people in. and just watch everyone go up to the bar. And since it's gained such a reputation for being Greek central (especially on Thursday nights) that 90% people that go there are Greek so you end up knowing everyone which of course makes it more fun. And even though there is a cover it's only $2 and it's $2 anythings (any type of drink, except jaeger bombs) and $1 Big Beers (23 oz). So you can get really messed up there for pretty cheap. The other Greek bar is closer to campus, so it's "on the way home" for all the greeks who still live on campus. It's seriously probably only 200 yards from the front door of the DG house. It's simply called "The bar" and it's kinda small but has a huge beer garden. $1 domestic bottles on Thursdays also rocks. Not as heavily greek so I can get my non greek friends to go there, still a place where I'm going to know a bunch of people. |
Lounges are far and away, my very favorite.
But on Cubs nights I love a great sports bar- College bars are awesome when I'm with my friends- Love dancing at clubs- Pubs are always fun to meet people at. What can i say, i just love going out :) |
