Cool new cellphones

Nokia

or

Motorola

Anything else that's hot? I want it to have bluetooth preferably.

Does anyone know if anything new is coming out soon also?

Bluetooth is great. Don't buy anything without it. If you can get your PDA and laptop with bluetooth as well, you're set.

I have the V600 and love it. However, Motorola just came out with the V710, which I heard is even better. You can check out a lot of new phones at PhoneScoop

I checked out the V600. Were I purchasing a new phone today, without question, that would be what I purchased.

I'm out of it. What's bluetooth?

It's a wireless protocol that allows devices such as cell phones and PDAs to talk to eachother. I use it every day to sync my phone with my MS Outlook for both calendar/schedule items and phone #'s.

No cables to hook up, so it's very convenient.

That's the least of it. For my powerbook laptop I can use the phone as a remote. I can have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard and I think they have speakers out and a camera coming out soon with it. Plus certain cars have it now so your phone can link into your car.

BirthaBlue4 07-14-2004 08:53 PM

All that's very nice, but too much for me :D. For a more..."regular" phone, this is my next purchase, Verizon just cam out with them.

Motorola

I work for Motorola in the cell phone group. I get to use a bunch of phones plus new, unreleased ones in user trial. You should see the ones coming up next....There are even coolers ones to come.

BT is great. I have a BT headset which is good when driving. It looks like this:

That's the one that I want. You can have it make different sounds when you open and close it. hehe. But I also like it because it has a speaker phone, which is what I like about the Nextel phones.

And you can d/l some awesome songs as the ringer. Right now I have "Desert Rose" by Sting....and "So Fresh and So Clean"...you can personalize each person with a ring. My bf's ring is A Ha's "Take On Me".

Remember the good old days when a phone was a phone and not a pager/copier/coffeemaker?

Maximum points for anyone who can remember the most appropriate Monty Python sketch at the point! (clue: shoebox) :)

Awesome :). Give us the lowdown on what's in or on it's way out/stuff to avoid etc? :D

The Moto V600 is a hot phone! I just became a Samsung convert. I have the Samsung E105 and it was worth the wait! I broke my over-$100 cellphone rule (I lost my Moto T720 and vowed I would never buy another phone over $100).

Rudey 07-19-2004 09:33 PM

They have the moto v600 for 50 bucks on amazon.com if i go with at&t and pay that damn connection fee or whatever it is.

The1calledTKE 07-19-2004 09:39 PM

V600 is a good phone. I would wait for the new moto's that are coming out in August.

Well hard to say Motorola makes phone for center carriers only and there are the phones that most companies have. It is hard to say how many companies will get what phone til they come out. i would shop around next month to see which carrier has the model with the features you like most.

For now maybe a used phone? You can get one from ebay or some carriers carry used ones as well. It's usually half the retail price. $50 bucks for a V600 is good. New they run about $350 retail. Cheaper of course if you sign a contract.

When I was young, I lived in a shoebox at the bottom of the lake, etc. etc.

I just got the Nokia 6600 (birthday present). So far I'm really liking it. It takes very good pictures and it records video (which I've yet to try out). Bluetooth is an awesome feature. It was in a bunch of phones overseas a couple years ago, but it's just now starting to become common here.

swissmiss04 07-19-2004 11:59 PM

This phone will probably be Stateside in a year or two. Genuine titanium cover, bluetooth, and lots of other stuff.

RioLambdaAlum 07-20-2004 12:03 AM

i just wanna say i want a camera phone lol

Rudey 07-20-2004 12:51 AM

If people are really into paying money for phones, all the phones available abroad are available here too. My phone last year was a European version of the v66 and was gold and had all sorts of strange things I couldn't figure out. You can either go to a mobile store in an immigrant neighborhood or look on the net. It's all available. I, on the other hand, bang up my phone, lose my phone, and most recently fall into the ocean and short it out so I'm not about to drop 500 on it every couple months.

IowaStatePhiPsi 07-20-2004 12:58 AM

I'm a cheap bastard college student: when I get my $150 rebate for a phone I'll buy a $150 phone.
If an expensive/fancy cellphone is a status symbol: consider me old school.

DGqueen17 07-20-2004 01:00 AM

I love my Kyocera Slider....

It cost me $110...but that's with a $15 fee they charged me for switching service off my old phone and on to the new one and I also sent in for a $30 rebate so it was actually $65 for a cool ass phone.

It has Tetris. Which makes my life complete.

lol...you're so gay. :p Call me when you're off work.

ragtimerose 07-20-2004 02:47 PM

I have a phone which makes and receives calls. That's about all I need.

Oh, I do use my cool datebook feature, though. Makes my Palm almost obsolete. Sigh.

That phone is very no frills compared to the up and coming phones. It doesn't even have a camera :p

vukkg 07-20-2004 04:37 PM

I got the Nokia 8910 last year as a gift. Its really sleek looking, but I would NOT recommend the phone because if you drop it more than once, the lovely little sliding cover becomes loose. Once its loose....have fun trying to get it fixed! Also it doesn't have a lot of the new features that Stateside phones have.

PoohsHoneyBee 07-21-2004 10:26 AM

This one is mine and I love it to life.

Damn that phone is nice. My contract is up in February of '06. I'll be looking for a new phone then. I can only imagine what they'll be like by then.

Our equity analysts went to a Motorola meeting yesterday and were impressed by the phone. They even dropped it and nothing happened to it. I want one.

Most can be dropped with no problems.

I think the real test is to slide it across a dirty tile floor and see if it gets scratched up. That seems to be the kiss of death for most cell phone screens.
