"Sporty" shoes - what's in?

Ok, I went into a "preppy" phase in late 2001, and have not owned any tennis/sporty shoes since then. So, I'm out of the loop. I going to purchase some sporty shoes this week. I'm a former tennis shoe snob, there's some residual TS snobiness in me, please don't recommend payless. What brands, styles, or colors are "younger" people wearing these days? What are you wearing now? Pictures?

New Balance is a big one. Nike is still in (but still the most expensive). Really, as far as I've seen, there haven't been any huge changes in athletic shoes since '01.

GeekyPenguin 07-12-2004 10:18 AM

For the most part I wear NBs or Nikes for exercise, except for a long run, then I wear my Sauconys. For "fashion" sport shoes, I wear either pink Diesels or Puma clogs.

Rudey 07-12-2004 11:08 AM

Are you looking for something to actually work out in or just to say hey I'm cool, bitch fuck me? For the latter I prefer the Adidas Y-3 line or the Chiles, for the former Nike shox are hot.

First of all, nowadays people called "running shoes" instead of "tennis shoes". Tennis shoes is so 1980-ish. ;)

I agree with everyone else, depends on what situation and what function you are going to wear them. For real running, I suggest New Balance, like series 805 or 806. For just to wear around, while still being comfy, I'd prefer Asics: Kayano X series or Nimbus 4. A little bit flashy, Nike Shox of any kind.

Good luck! :)

D, I assume your asking for stylish, kickin' it shoes as opposed to shoes for working out or running? I'll find some pictures for you.

I have these in gray with blue, but the black and pink ones are awesome.

Puma has some cute stuff, too.

I might be the only one who would wear something like this, but I think they're the shit.

They're still "gym shoes" to me. :D

New Balance is huge. When I was at IU it seemed like every other person had them.

Rudey 07-13-2004 12:51 AM

Considering a million and one people wear those, I doubt you're the only one.

My vote goes to: http://www.adidas.com/us/Framed/y-3.html

Not everyone has them, they're hot, and you'll be screaming "bitch fuck me" in Japanese if you really think about it.

I have those Pumas above in red. I love them and got them for cheap at Nordstrom Rack.

I do want a pair of Roos. I don't know where to find them though. Thoughts?

damasa 07-13-2004 11:43 AM

Gotta love the Pumas.

The 'roos come in all kinds of fun colors -- you can get them at Zappos.

Oh no...there's roos on there that match my new jacket and my school bag...that link is dangerous for me. Thanks for posting it! :p

Everybody needs to have a pair of 'roos. It's really sad, but Mr. valkyrie and I both have them, although they're not the same color and we try not to wear them at the same time.

I need to go into online shopping rehab...the only good thing is that I'm not putting it on plastic. Just using the money I should be using to pay off my current credit card bills.

I had a pink pair of roos when I was little. I remember them and miss them. They were super cool.

GeekyPenguin 07-14-2004 09:01 AM

I think I NEED those 'Roos.

I'm going to have to agree.

I got these awesome athletic-inspired heels made from neoprene and suede. The kicker? They are purple and comfortable. Tres funky.

I'm not a fan of athletic-inspired heels. A girl in my house got a pair in silver and when she brought them into the TV room that night we all died laughing(she's pretty much an American Eagle girl). They were funky...but at the same time they just looked like someone attatched a heel to my sauconys.

Maybe if I saw them on someone and didn't think they looked horribly out of character I might like them though.
