Reflections (well at least it was last I heard...) :D
Our manual is entitled The Manual
older editions say Manual of Phi Kappa Psi We have a Fraternity Education Program but it does not have a title. Following initiation there is the Men of Excellence program. Divided into 3 journeys the first is to be completed in the semester after initiation, the second the following year and the third the remaineder of your undergraduate time. |
I'm not sure if it's actually meant to be a "new member manual" or a historical book, but the one I was given is called "The Legacy of Gamma Phi Beta - Love Labor Learning Loyalty".
.....Kelly :) |
Ours is called "The Kappa Notebook."
Ours is called Promise
Our most recent edition is called ATO: The Positive Experience.
Older editions were called Propylon (which I really like) Jason |
Phikeia: the manual of Phi Delta Theta
We're boring. Our new member manual is called "New Member Manual." :p
I actually have one of the last batch of manuals that used the term "pledge" instead of "new member". It says "Pledge Manual" on the spine, starts off with "Congratulations on becoming an Alpha Epsilon Phi pledge", etc. AEPhi had just switched over to the current new member program, including the term 'new member'. Our TEC (traveling education consultant) kept saying over and over again, "I know your books say 'pledge' but really you're new members..." |
The Norman Shield of Kappa Delta

Delta Chi's Pledge Manual is called: "The Cornerstone".
New Member Guide
Pi Kappa Alpha's is the Garnet and Gold
Theta Phi Alpha's is "My Sister, My Friend."
Phi Mu's is the Phi Manual
Now, Delta Zeta's NM manual is called "Delta Zeta and You" but when I pledged in 1985 the same book was called "The Pledge Handbook"
DG has the "New Member Persuit"
Son of the Stars: the Pledge Manual of Beta Theta Pi
We're still pledges, even at the international level, and it is a tradition I'm glad we still keep - "new members" implies, to me at least, a little too much certainty that one will become an initiated member of an organization. |
It used to be Pi Phi Forever but it's been a long time since I was a pledge so maybe my younger sisters can help me on this one!

All I know is the day after our pledging ceremony we were handed CDs. They crashed 2 girls computers. I didn't even bother putting it in mine. I was very upset that our new member books are on CDs... espeically ones that crash computers. The book from my local was called "Alpha Theta Phi Pledge Book". |

My Fraternity still uses the term "pledge". I had no issued with the term when I pledged. This mindset of using the term is hazing, then having to come up with a new term is silly. "probationary members" atleast better conveys what a pledge is then some of the other terms used. But pledge is shorter and simpler. |
