Honestly, I have to admit there are still racism in the greek system and that is why many people are wary of pre-dom white greeks...... when stuff like this happen, you can see why people are wary and feel more safer with an ethnic based one. I was so SHOCKED when I read this. This is a bit old though.

This is outrageous.....college students that should know better, but then again not everyone that goes to college is smarter then the average bear.

I'm surprised that the guy that they "lynched" didn't have the word junglebunny or alabama porch monkey across his t-shirt.

It disgust me that these peolpe think that it si funny and "COOL" to do this kind of crap. Now both Fraternitities have been suspended..I hope that the money that they spent on making the Omega Psi Phi shirts was worth it? If HQ offices of both Fraternities don't expell those members that were dressed in that manner then they are cintributing to the probelm andhave just set a bad example for other chapters of both orgs.

Didn't the article mention that one of the orgs is a historicall Jewish Freternity? If it is you would think that those bros would be more mindful of that sort of behavior considering all the hatred that jews have had to endure over the years. :mad:

This is old news, as stated, go do a Thread Search and you'll find it. Both chapters were slapped around quite a bit by the University and their Nationals, but I do believe they remain on campus, probably under some type of probation. I know the Beta's are still there, and they continue to dominate at Auburn.

What a few of them did sucks, they all paid the price, time to move on.

As has already been pointed out, this article is from 2001 and the incident(s) have been discussed at some length in previous GreekChat threads.

Unfortunatley, this episode happened among a spate of blackface incidents at different schools in divergent parts of the country.

However, simply because this is "old news," it doesn't mean the problem has been eliminated -- as is proven by recent situations.

Rather than repeat the content from all of the previous posts on this subject, I would urge you to go back and find the old threads, read them, and comment if you have anything new to add.

I will leave this thread open, though, as long as any comments or debates remain respectful.

I followed the links, and learned a lot. There is an interesting, but apparently useless "which race do you love?" test.

Apparently to these Harvard scientists, it's bad when whites dress up for halloween parties, but it's not bad when the BSA at GA State passes out flyers with phony pictures condeming the Pikes.

The "white power music industry" (quote below) is bad, but obscene/racist rap music is OK.

IMHO, these links go to sites which falsely claim to promote racial harmony.

Both frats were kicked off campus but then they sued the University and somehow got to come back. Supposedly, Beta used the money they won to build an enormous new house. Beta is considered one of the best frats on campus.

Both fraternities were punished harshly. Delta Sig more because of simulating hangings. They both are still on campus but Delta Sig is low on numbers and has never really recovered. And as for Beta's house, it wasn't built with money from this, there house was built in the eighties.

Locked, and locked with good reason. It's academic though, they are not deleted but present in the archives and merely locked to prevent further posting (possibly read: attacks) on an exhausted news topic.

I agree that those particular threads SHOULD be locked. However, whenever someone new brings up an old subject, their perspective brings new life to an otherwise exhausted topic. For that reason, I'm no so big against duplicate threads.

Beta one of the strongest at Auburn - yes, new house from the money they gained from the lawsuit - no.

They didn't get any money from the University. Yes, they sued them for $300,000,000 but it was dropped when the University let them back on campus.

As stated, the Beta house, as new and enormous as it is, was indeed built in the 80's.

Wait a minute! why were they allowed back on campus and what did their HQs think of this???

Who really knows? What seems to be the cause is the 300 million dollar civil rights lawsuit they filed against the University for denying them their civil right to free association and free speach (that's what I'm guessing they did anyhow). At any rate, the University probably thought it would be easier just to let them back onto campus than to fight a battle that they can't win.

As for their HQ's, my guess is that they dealt with the individuals responsible internally.

The fact that the girls in these pictures are dressed as pornographized "schoolgirls" and "sex bunnies" speaks volumes about the mentality of young women who admire, aspire to, and perpetually "cheer on" guys who are emotionally stunted, unconscionable, sexist bigots. I don't know which side of it I find more disgusting; the rubes in the Klan costumes, or the braindead cheerleaders who worship the rubes, some of which probably complain about not being able to find any "nice" guys.

Maybe you missed what they were doing at this party: it was a halloween party, you know, the types where you get to dress up as something other than what you'd normally wear - i.e. costumes. If a girl wants to dress up as a hooker, more power to her. The guys on the other hand, were out of line.

They didnt kick out/punish that much, I think the HQ should of cleansed them entirely and prohibit them from "alumni" status when they grad. I wonder how the other chapters feel when they heard this, especially their ethnic members.
