Mike Ditka for Senate?

A group of people are trying to draft Mike Ditka to run as the Republican candidate against Barack Obama in the Senate. I wish I was kidding here.

Tom Osborne from Nebraska has been doing a decent job in Congress. Why not Ditka in the Senate?

---- Okay, Ditka vs. The Chicago Bears, God, the heavenly choirs of angels and Tom Daschle.... who would win?

KillarneyRose 07-08-2004 04:27 PM

He's a fellow Pitt alum, of course I'd vote for him if I had the chance :)

DeltAlum 07-08-2004 05:09 PM

So, we're doing a Dan Reeves Show in New Orleans at SuperBowl whatever for the Broncos. The one they lost to San Fran.

Reeves and Ditka are buddies.

We're out having lunch aroun noon the day of the show at a little seafood (go figure) place, and there's Ditka sitting in the corner imbibing.

So, we go over and ask if he would appear live on Dan's show at 7:00 PM that evening.

Ditka says, "Sure, will you send a car to get me?"

We say, "Sure, where will you be at 6:30?"

Ditka says, "Right here."

And he was, and he came on the show -- well, let's be kind and say "tipsy." (After 6 or 7 hours of drinking)

And he was funny as hell.

You can't say that about every prospective Senate candidate.

Ditka versus God, who would win?

Hell yeah. Even though he's Republican...

Can't say the man doesn't show any emotion. Can't you see his face on C-span all red as he's cursing and ranting over some bill being passed?

Maybe he and Siragusa can run together or something.

Hail to Pitt :D

Ditka vs. Cheney on who can say the nastiest word on the Senate floor between sessions.

I'll take Ditka in a walk...

Ditka.

Tied in the 4th, Ditka goes ahead with a field go as time runs out.

Sister Havana 07-12-2004 11:13 PM

Update...Ditka's actually considering running. He says he's getting excited about it.

Ditka 'getting excited' about Senate run

Trick question, Ditka IS God.

Kevin 07-13-2004 09:41 AM

Stranger things have happened. Nebraska is represented by Tom Osborne.

But Dr. Tom doesn't drink or smoke or cheat or steal or any other unhealthy or unGodlike things.

And he never yells.

wait- wasnt Ditka the tough actin' Tinactin guy?
I'd vote for him if he promised to launch a national campaign against athlete's foot.

He also endorses cialis. That wouldn't be positive publicity. "Look! Our senator can't get it up on his own! WOOO!"

bob dole endorsed viagra and had lost the presidency...not a good track record for men with erectile disfunction...

IowaStatePhiPsi 07-13-2004 11:38 AM

It worked to keep Bob Dole popular after his presidential bid.

I have a hard time (ha ha) keeping them straight...I lived with a Pharmacy major who would make the world pause when drug commercials came on. I recognize drug commercials but not which ones when they have similar effects.

Rudey 07-14-2004 12:48 AM

He'd do well given the fact that Obama is rumoured to hate black people.

I think the viagra commercials actually enhanced Dole's image.

For awhile Iowa had one of the has-beens from The Love Boat as a US Representative.
I think that Kate Mulgrew or Tom Arnold could easily win the districts they grew up in if they ran for Congress.
And I'm pretty sure that since Captain Kirk was from Riverside, Iowa that William Shatner could win a race to become a Senator from Iowa.

William Shatner could not win a race to become a Senator from Iowa.

1) He's actually Canadian, born in Montreal, not from Riverside, Iowa.

2) He doesn't live in Iowa, but in Southern California.

Sister Havana 07-15-2004 12:32 AM

Well, Ditka will not be running after all.

1> I said Captain Kirk, not William Shatner, was from Riverside, Iowa (know your Star Trek Lore!)
2> He could be a carpet bagger like Hillary Clinton!

I haven't heard this. My sorority and brother fraternity are hosting a fundraising banquet for him in August. I've heard Obama speak at several events and campaigned for him in the primaries, he has my vote!
