fall recruitment

anyone else been thinking about fall recruitment yet? :) i know it's still pretty early for some, but i'm very excited!

MSKKG 07-08-2004 09:18 AM

Recruitment is one of my favorite times. I'm always excited to see it come around again!!!

TrueBlueKappa 07-08-2004 09:35 AM

I'm looking forward to it too... for all the obviously reasons, but also mostly because it means two weeks off work! Its my only vacation all summer. :)

ILLINIgirl 07-08-2004 09:53 AM

I'm so excited and I can't wait for work week (only about a month away for me). This is my first year being on the other side of rush and I can't wait to have a pledge kid and spoil her :D

LuvUTrulyKKG 07-08-2004 12:59 PM

Lucky girls!! I have to wait until January... it's an eternity away!! Good luck and let me know if you need any of us Eta Alpha girls to help with anything!!

curlygirly 07-09-2004 08:51 PM

only the chosen hold the key

I'm looking forward to Recruitment... and I can't even participate!!!! Since I'm an RA-- Resident Assistant-- I fall under Pi Chi "status" and can't rush girls. I'll have access to a bunch of freshmen girls who are rushing... so it's unfair for me to participate... plus I'll be in RA training and preparing the dorms for people to move in, so I can't participate in spirit week.

Either way... I'm super excited about Bid Day... I already have my outfit picked out and everything!! And this year I plan on sneaking in to Spirit Week at least once to see my sisters... because it sucks to drive by the house and see all the girls under the white tent, and not being able to participate. I graduate in December, so I plan on making the most of this semester with my little and what I hope will become an extended family!!!

On another note... I can't believe it's been 2 years since I went through recruitment... and kept a daily log of it on GreekChat!

<sigh> the memories... :D

I can't wait to be on the other side too.

We have informal recruitment in the fall, but for the full blown formal recruitment I have to wait for January.

RiaLucia 07-28-2004 11:53 PM

I am very, very excited to see informal fall recruitment roll around! I came in as a fall girl in 2003 and having just been through the recruiting end of the spring formal process, I can tell you that, well, I like fall informal a lot. The laid-back atmosphere is more my speed.

I also serve my chapter as the new member education chairman, so along with the recruitment chair, this is my time to really roll up my sleeves and get to work. I've had all summer to think about what I did in the spring and how I can improve my game. :-) Bring on the new members!

And I might add she is an AWESOME new member recruitment chair, as I was spring '04 and got to see her work as new member education chair first hand with my class. ^_^

I'm looking forward to it and my school has the same setup as Cat.. COBs in the fall and formal recruitment in the winter.

I am on Panhellenic and I really want to get recruitment out to the incoming girls.. Any suggestions?

The first week of fall term, Panhel throws a "Greek Luau" and it in the past has had poor attendence, so I made the event mandatory for all of the chapters (it is good both ways.. either a lot of girls show up or the chapters get fined, which goes to Panhel!) so I am really hoping for it go well :)
I was also thinking of tabling during midterms and our theme is "don't just wish on a star, reach for one!' and hand out starbursts as a Panhellenic activity.

The guys on IFC think it is corny, but they do not have as much of a problem in getting people to go through recruitment.

Cat and I are in the same chapter and I just wanted to clarify that our fall semester isn't quite COBs. Informal recruitment at our school is still pretty structured and is for a specific week that every sorority participates in at the same time, still with events held at certain times and a bid day, etc.

As for COBs, I know they did one in the spring of 2003 (Cat, though I'm sure you know this, that's how Eleni joined), but haven't done any since. As a general rule we tend not to use that method so much, largely because our numbers during informal and formal recruitment have been quite good.

As for your recruitment, I haven't been a part of the Greek community for quite a year yet, so I'm not as hip to how to get numbers up. However, does your school do freshman move-in? I've heard of some schools that do this, including ours. Basically Greeks sign up to come to school a little early and help the freshmen and their mass quantities of stuff, and the pres. of our chapter says recruitment really starts there. I'm assuming*, then, that everyone wears shirts and letters and basically talks to the people they move in in a way that encourages them to get to know the opportunities they have on campus, including Greek life. As freshmen they can't go through until they've completed one full semester, but it's never too early to plant the seed.

*I say assuming because I was a transfer student last fall and I moved in a little early myself, but it was into an upperclassman hall, so I missed out on freshman move in altogether

sugrsingr 08-02-2004 05:35 PM

We did have a freshman Move In crew two years ago.. I don't know if it was done my freshman year because all that I saw was Lambda Sigma (the sophomore honor society)

Multiple groups came and helped, but it cost too much for the administration because of meals.. with athletes already being there and freshmen, it tooks it's toll. Campus Activities instead started this group called "welcome leaders" which comprised of nine or so students to help the freshmen through orientation week. Seven of the members this year are female and Kappa has about four or five of those women :)

I wish the girls could still help. We made sure to get our panhel shirts early and the girls, well most girls, went united as Panhel and not their individual sororities. We ran into some girls holding tight onto their letters which was in bad taste, but a majority of the girls complied.

Actually, I did not know that, I just knew she had joined Spring '03.

Cool stuff though :D

ISUKappa 08-17-2004 02:46 PM

From the rush threads so far:

Auburn: 55 new members (quota was 55!)
Georgia Southern University: 18 new members (I think quota was in the 40s)
Kansas State University: 52 new members (not sure what quota was, probably 50)

U of Iowa recruitment starts today--I'm going down to the chapter house after work to help.

Iowa State's recruitment started the 15th and bid day is Friday!

Shima-Mizu 08-17-2004 03:51 PM

Thanks for the stats! I can't wait for fall recruitment... not sure when it starts though off the top of my head.

LuvUTrulyKKG 08-20-2004 10:49 PM

I heard from a girl that was formerly from my chapter who now goes to Georgia that they made quota! I will find out more details soon! :D

PKTKKG 08-22-2004 11:22 AM

EK chapter of KKG at South Carolina matched quota of 48 women and 3 additions last night for a new member class of 51!!!! We are so excited and proud!!!!!!

Hope to hear more results from other chapters soon.

ISUKappa 08-22-2004 12:16 PM

Beta Chi at Kentucky made quota with 61 new members!
Delta Omicron at Iowa State (yay!!) made quota with 23 new members!! :D

Bid day at Iowa is today and hopefully I'll hear from our Membership adviser how we did. Our return rates were better than Panhellenic's projected return rates, so we were happy about that!

ISUKappa 08-22-2004 10:07 PM

Beta Zeta at the U of Iowa made quota with 29 girls, including 4 legacies!!

LuvUTrulyKKG 08-25-2004 10:48 PM

I just talked to a Clemson Kappa who I went to high school with and she told me that...

Epsilon Mu made quota with...

58 new members!

Shima-Mizu 08-30-2004 10:41 AM

13 days until recruitment starts over here!

LuvUTrulyKKG 08-30-2004 03:19 PM

... 131 days for recruitment at Furman. It's so hard to look at all the recruitment threads and results and not be too jealous! :D

ISUKappa 09-02-2004 12:20 PM

Any word from our UCF girls? Just curious as to how their second formal recruitment went. Some other people commented on how the new release figures made for an interesting recruitment.

I hope everyone is safe since it looks like they're going to get hit again.

ILLINIgirl 09-02-2004 02:15 PM

Recruitment starts tomorrow here and goes on --then for the next too weekends! I'm excited :)

Shima-Mizu, I hope the Kappas do wonderfully! Will you please post all of the Valpo results to the main recruitment thread in the rush forum, or PM me? I'd love to keep tabs on campus and see how things work now that there are only six sororities there...

KappaLadyK 09-07-2004 10:21 PM

Good luck Shima-Mizu!!! I hope you get some great to ladies!!!! Keep us all updated - Furman's recruitment isn't until Jan...thus, I have to live vicariously through everyone elses rush! :p

BTW - I'll be with you at leadership! Be stoked, because it's gonna be great!

Loyally,
KTK

MSKKG 09-08-2004 06:58 AM

KappaLadyK, just when everyone is going through withdrawals, here come the deferred recruitments! :D This way, we have rush threads just about all year long!!! We're looking forward to hearing about Furman's recruitment, so keep us posted!

BTW, welcome to GC!!!

ISUKappa 09-11-2004 10:27 PM

I think Headquarters is aware of the situation and are doing what they can. Kappa really tries hard to work with the chapter at reestablishing themselves before they take any further action. Zeta Epsilon is a great example of what can happen when a chapter and Headquarters work together and establish a plan for reorganization.

LuvUTrulyKKG 09-14-2004 01:23 AM

I just talked to a friend who is a Kappa at Bucknell. She said they have 42 amazing new members (which is quota!) and are very excited! :D Just wanted to keep the good news flowing!

Shima-Mizu 09-17-2004 09:42 PM

We have 4 wonderful new ladies over here at Eta Delta chapter!

Not sure what other sorority chapters got here...but we have four amazing girls---- one of whom I've got as a key sister!

ILLINIgirl 09-18-2004 06:40 PM

University of Illinois (Beta Lambda) has 52 (quota) wonderful new Kappa's, 6 of which are legacies!!! :)

LuvUTrulyKKG 09-19-2004 10:17 PM

So, there was a girl that worked with the same program that I did this past summer and she told me that at her school they have deferred sophomore recruitment and that she really enjoyed the Kappas at her school. I then told her I was a Kappa and we had several conversations about Kappa, scholarship, our no-hazing policy, and other things. I looked on the fall recruitment calendar in the rush forum the other day and noticed that bid day had already passed, so I called her and left her a message. Well she called back yesterday and said that she had recieved a bid from ...

the Epsilon Omega (Dickinson) chapter of our lovely fraternity, Kappa Kappa Gamma !! Yay! That chapter has a lovely young woman joining the sisterhood! I will update more details as I talk to her more! :D

kappameg 09-21-2004 11:57 AM

yayyy!

at the zeta chi chapter at marist college, we got 5 amazing girls... that's a pretty big class for fall recruitment here!! soooo congratulations phi class!! :D

MSKKG 09-27-2004 08:53 PM

OleMissGlitter told me that Delta Rho at Ole Miss had an amazing recruitment. She is sure they made quota (80) and probably quota plus. I don't know exactly what happened, but it sounds good!

imsohappythatiama 09-27-2004 11:20 PM

Beta Chi/Kentucky made quota with 64 new members,

Epsilon Lambda/Tennessee made quota with 46 new members,

Zeta Gamma/Centre College took 4 new members through COR, and

Epsilon Nu/Vanderbilt took 3 new members through COR.

Yay for Fall Recruitment in Nu Province (West)!!
