john edwards on the ticket

news reports indicate edwards will be the vice presential candidate for the democrats. he is scheduled to be announced shortly. what do you think?

Kevin 07-06-2004 08:50 AM

I think he'll be a boost for the Dems. At least in the short term.

lauralaylin 07-06-2004 08:52 AM

I am so excited about this. My brother worked for Edwards until March when Edwards dropped out of the race, and he converted my mother, my husband, and me to Edwards supporters. I was actually planning on voting for Edwards if he wasn't chosen for VP (I think MA will be going for Kerry, so I didn't feel guilty about it :) ). I've been on the phone all morning with my family, it's so much fun. Today is such a great day!

Now if something could just happen to get Kerry to dropout, I'd seriously vote Democrat. Edwards is a former trial lawyer. I want to be a trial lawyer, so I know he'd be looking out for me :D

MattUMASSD 07-06-2004 10:02 AM

Another cool thing about Edwards is that he was state school educated. NC State and UNC Chapel Hill.

The1calledTKE 07-06-2004 10:06 AM

This is the best match up I think. Edwards is well liked and he may help out in the south a little, maybe just enough to swing states such as Florida and NC.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-06-2004 10:48 AM

The headline of the New York Post is "Kerry's Choice Dem picks Gephardt as VP Candidate!" lol!

The Democrats finally have their Dan Quayle.

"Dewey defeats Truman" is the first thing I said when I heard about the Post headline.

I'll see if there are any extra copies around here...usually the hospital has a bunch as it's one of the papers that they sell around here.

Peaches-n-Cream 07-06-2004 01:22 PM

I should buy a bunch and sell them on ebay. I can make some $$$$ ;)

DeltAlum 07-06-2004 01:36 PM

Funny stuff. Someone is feeling pretty stupid today.

Back to the election, I think Edwards will be strong addition.

Someone metioned Quayle -- maybe if Cheney decides not to run,
George W should talk to Dan.

I'm sure they have a lot of mutual friends from the Viet Nam era National Guard.

Disclaimer: That's a joke and in no way is meant to besmirch the importance and reputation of the National Guard. It's just that the topic hounded Quayle then as is does Bush presently. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Quayle certainly could help Bush look smart by comparison.:p

Really? Dan Quayle was the first guy in his family to go to college, worked his way through school, and became a self-made millionaire?

FYI for Greeks -- Edwards' daughter Cate is a Pi Beta Phi at Princeton. As a North Carolina liberal, I bet breathesgelatin already knew that, though!

How do you figure?

I really hate the trend where political parties try to undermine candidates by saying things about their intellect. Yes, the man has a little bit of a drawl. Don't let it fool you. The guy is extremely bright. Experience in the Senate or in politics in general is something I'd almost see as a negative. He's a genuinely charasmatic guy. Quayle was not. Quayle always had you wondering WTF he was doing on the ticket. Maybe he was a life insurance policy for Bush Sr.?

It also pisses me off that liberal folks tend to call the President dumb. Dumb folks -- even with the help of daddy wouldn't be able to accomplish what he did. He was a VERY successful governor of Texas without the help of Cheney or the Republican establishment. I don't think he's been a half bad President in many respects either.

I also don't like when people call candidates names like dumb, stupid, or idiotic. Just because you disagree with someone, it doesn't mean you can be insulting.

I saw that headline earlier today on Yahoo UK.

One of my greatest hopes is that John Edwards could cause NC to vote Democrat in November :D

valkyrie 07-07-2004 02:29 AM

What kind of asshole is voting for Bush this fall?

I have to agree with ktsnake on this point (stop the presses!) Bush isn't intelligent. He's the very picture of an anti-intellectual -- but he's FAR from dumb. He's at least smart enough to surround himself with people who have the political savvy that he lacks, and that's all he apparently needed to steal -- er -- win the election in 2000.

This asshole will definitely be voting for Bush. I want to keep the money I make, I don't want to get any closer to being a socialist government than we already are.

I don't like Bush much, but he's still waay to the right of Kerry. Kerry is somewhat to the left of Michael Moore according ot his Senate voting record -- a little to extreme for my tastes. If you want a moderate liberal, go for Nader.
