NPC Puzzle

Ok...I have a game of sorts for NPC Soroities... (And I don't know the answer either, so this may take some/lots of research and/or trial & error....)

What is the fewest amount of colors needed to represent all 26 NPC Soroities and what are they?

Only official colors count (aka, no Pink for GPhiB)...but let's not get anal over it (aka, blue is blue whether it's royal blue or carribean blue or whatever, white is white whether it is pearl white or stark white or whatever....otherwise the answer is going to be 26...)

Example-Pink could represent DG, Phi Mu, DZ (probably 1 or two others)

Green could represent AST, ASA, AXO, AGD, etc...

DeltaBetaBaby 07-03-2004 01:55 PM

Please clarify...is a sorority "represented" in this game as long as one of their colors is present?

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-03-2004 01:55 PM

Ok, I'm not in the researching mood right now so I'm just going to guess and I'm sure I'll miss a few but others can just continue the list. And feel free to correct me when I'm wrong (likely to happen).

As was said:

Pink
Green

Also:

Brown (us)
Blue (KKG, Pi Phi, DDD)
Bordeaux (Alpha Phi's not red)
Yellow (for the gold of Theta and Chi O)

If you count bordreaux, maroon, etc. as shades of red, I think I can do it in six. Gold/yellow, white, blue, red, green and brown. (Gamma Phi screws the whole thing up. ;) ) Of course, if you want to get technical, pink is really just a member of the red family, and in that case we can do away with my "green" category, since I think the only sorority that doesn't have gold/yellow, white, blue, brown or some shade of red is DZ.

goldendelta 07-03-2004 03:09 PM

I think I got it in 5...G Phi B gave me the most trouble. I'm not exatly sure what category mode fits into.

Here's what I got:

Blues
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Phi Sigma Sigma
Pi Beta Phi (the website said silver blue)
Sigma Delta Tau
Theta Phi Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha

Reds
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Gamma Delta
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Sigma Alpha
Chi Omega
Delta Zeta
Simga Kappa (Maroon could be red)

White/Silver
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Phi
Phi Mu
Kappa Delta
Sigma Sigma Sigma

Yellow/Gold
Alpha Sigma Tau
Kappa Alpha Theta
Delta Phi Epsilon

Brown
Gamma Phi Beta

DeltaBetaBaby 07-03-2004 03:11 PM

Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi are both unique with both their colors, if you stay technical.

Which color incorporates the most groups? Blue?

DeltaBetaBaby 07-03-2004 03:12 PM

And, an easier one...

How many LETTERS do you need to represent all the groups?

Well, with the groups this way you could (though technically not correct) say that "mode" is white since it it's close to that color (if you stretch things a bit). So you would have 4 categories......

How many flowers???? lol

I wonder also what kind of zoo we might have with all the mascots? :D Might make a pretty cool picture even (night time scene with a crescent moon.....).

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-03-2004 04:21 PM

I will say that while our colors aren't the most attractive when it comes to decorating, I really like the fact that we don't share them with anyone.......

Hmmm, flowers would be a lot of roses and carnations. There a not too many duplicates with the mascots though, and not all use animals.

My school did a pretty cool picture with all the mascots in it. (AEPhi, DDD, DG, SDT, AKA). She put a big silver anchor in the middle with the AKA flower twisting around the middle, a giraffe sitting on the right side, a teddy bear on the left and a dolphin coming out of the water in the middle (they all had tear-drop eyes, it was so cute). And drops of water on the bottom with each one's letters in a drop. It was really pretty.

And don't forget violets for us ADPi's. :)

bruinaphi 07-03-2004 09:16 PM

Or the lily of the valley or forget me not for alpha phi.

AlphaFrog 07-03-2004 10:05 PM

ANd we are totally different with Aster and Narciss (sp? I'm having a brain fart) depending on the time of year.

We had a sorority newsletter, The Panhel Post, prior to our Greek Gazette, and the cover incorporated all of the mascots or symbols of each of the sororities on campus. It was cute!

As for Gamma Phi Beta's browns, those are really good colors for me to wear (tans, taupes, browns...), so I like them!

goldendelta 07-03-2004 10:43 PM

Ok, I think I got all the flowers. I was surprised to see so many violets!

Roses

Alpha Sigma Tau
Alpha Xi Delta

Iris
Delta Phi Epsilon

Fleur-de-Lis
Kappa Kappa Gamma

AlphaFrog 07-03-2004 10:47 PM

Ok, I got another one....and I have no idea how you'd group this...and this would take some work....

PHILANTHROPIES!

The only suggestion I have for anyone who would take this on is to group the soroites that don't have national philanthropies in one category and maybe those that have to do with disabilities, kids, diseases, etc...

ETA: This has become a great way to find things in common with other soroities that you may have never thought of!:)

Ditto - and they actually work in more formal settings. I like to tease my mom that our family room destined me to be a Gamma Phi because it still has the original 80s brown carpet. :p

honeychile 07-03-2004 11:06 PM

I can start the mascots, but have an early (early!!) morning tomorrow:

Lion:
Alpha Delta Pi
Phi Mu

Dolphin:
Delta Delta Delta

Sailboat:
Sigma Sigma Sigma

Owl:
Chi Omega
Kappa Kappa Gamma

Kite:
Kappa Alpha Theta

Giraffe:
Alpha Epsilon Phi

Turtle:
Delta Zeta

Panda Bear:
Alpha Omicron Pi

Teddy Bear/Phi Bear:
Alpha Xi Delta
Alpha Phi
Kappa Delta
Sigma Delta Tau

Anchor:
Alpha Sigma Tau

Penguin:
Theta Phi Alpha

Ragdog/Hannah Doll:
Alpha Sigma Alpha
Delta Gamma

Unicorn:
Delta Phi Epsilon

Sphinx

Anyone care to add or correct any of these?

ETA: As I was checking out some of the other sororities websites, I was very surprised to see how many National/Executive Offices are in Ohio! That could be another catagory - in which state is your NO or EO?

Peaches-n-Cream 07-03-2004 11:08 PM

I think that SDT's cafe au lait is brownish so GPhiB is not alone.

DPhiE's mascot is the unicorn. I think that Alpha Phi is the Phi Bear.

hannahgirl 07-03-2004 11:23 PM

The anchor is technically our symbol..... the Hannah doll is our Mascot! ;)

AXiD's mascot is a teddy bear, too.

AlphaFrog 07-04-2004 03:39 AM

DG and ASA I suppose could go under a "rag-doll" category.... (we still call ours Raggedy-Ann, but it's not used as much as the ladybug)

Yes, technically our flower is the fleur-de-lis, but since it isn't a flower that grows, we use the iris! So we could be in the iris category as well!

KappaKittyCat 07-04-2004 01:01 PM

I like to think that we use the fleur-de-lis because it is an ideal, a perfection for which we all strive. The blue iris is the closest thing to a fleur-de-lis that grows in nature.

DPhiE has the lovely purple iris as our flower. I didn't realize that KKG used the blue iris. :) We have good taste in flowers.

SapphireSphinx9 07-04-2004 03:15 PM

Phi Sigma Sigma's mascot is the Sphinx...

Our International philanthropy is the National Kidney Foundation...

And our HQ was/is in Florida... But moving to Maryland very soon, if not already!

Well, the blue iris is what we're supposed to use if we can get it, but they're hard to find and rather expensive, so we usually use the purple iris.

sororitygirl2 07-04-2004 05:08 PM

Lots of fraternities and sororities have HQ in Indiana, but I really don't have time to research who is where, sorry!

Buttonz 07-04-2004 07:05 PM

SDT's mascot is also the Teddy Bear

efcheerBB 07-05-2004 01:13 PM

SDT's HQ is Indiana. I don't have much time to research which other GLO's are in IN also...sorry...

I believe there's a whole like "office park" where all these Headquarters are located - on Founder's Road in Indianapolis.

bluefish81 07-05-2004 01:42 PM

Headquarters for all NPC organizations....

Alabama
Alpha Sigma Tau – Birmingham

Colorado
Gamma Phi Beta – Centennial

Connecticut
Alpha Epsilon Phi – Stamford

Florida
Phi Sigma Sigma – Boca Raton

Georgia
Alpha Delta Pi – Atlanta
Phi Mu – Tucker/Peachtree City

Illinois
Alpha Phi – Evanston

Indiana
Alpha Chi Omega - Indianapolis
Alpha Gamma Delta – Indianapolis
Alpha Sigma Alpha - Indianapolis
Alpha Xi Delta – Indianapolis
Kappa Alpha Theta – Indianapolis
Sigma Delta Tau – Indianapolis
Sigma Kappa – Indianapolis
Zeta Tau Alpha - Indianapolis

Missouri
Delta Phi Epsilon – Maryland Heights
Pi Beta Phi – Town & Country

Delta Gamma – Columbus
Delta Zeta – Oxford
Kappa Kappa Gamma - Columbus
Theta Phi Alpha – Bay Village

Tennessee
Alpha Omicron Pi – Brentwood
Chi Omega - Memphis
Kappa Delta - Memphis

Sigma Sigma Sigma - Woodstock

I think this is all correct. All of it was taken from the respective websites.

I always thought it was the other way around. When we use irises in Pref Ceremony or to give to NMs, we always order blue irises even though our flower is actually the lovely purple iris. The blue looks purple and is cheaper.

It probably depends on what part of the country you are in.

Sorry! I couldn't find a flower on the KKG website but I found fleur-de-lis on a chapter's site.
