trl cannot play ALL of the 10 videos and run their mouths in one hour. i remember when trl was 90 min., but then it just dragged on too long. what i hate is when trl does the top 20 videos and have guests on the showin one hour . it is pointless:rolleyes: but yeah that do play reruns all the time. want to know how pathetic i am. i will watch 'newlyweds' when it first airs. then i will watch the 20 times they air the same episode in the next week. i will watch it like it's the first time. i cannoy help that i am an addict of the show. i am waiting for the dvd!!!! *crosses fingers* i want to know what possessed mtv to air 'the ashlee simpson show'. that has to be one of the most boring shows on mtv. i miss the old mtv (referring to mid 90s). i loved it so much then. mtv was just so cool then. |
Bring back:
Headbanger Ball hosted by Ricki Rachtman Yo! MTV Raps hosted by Dr. Dre and Ed Lover |
apparently they have 2 other channels for other stuff. One is mtv2, I dont really know what its all about, and the other just shows videos 24/7. MTV hits I think its called.
Wasnt MTV2 created to just show videos? now they have 2 whole channels of just reruns?! |
They have an MTV Jams, too. It's for digital cable only but only certain digital cable providers subscribe to it.
ETA: Bring back Beavis & Butthead and Daria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
TRL sucks and they should just get rid of that too.
I agree with moe.ron, Headbanger's Ball and Yo! MTV Raps need to come back. I miss the shows of the 80s-- 1800-Dial-MTV and Remote Control! |

Anybody remember the ORIGINAL Beavis & Butthead -- I think it was called "Billy and Bobby" or something like that. I just remember one episode they were sledding down the hill and one of them got hit by a big truck. It was so funny to watch. It was very primative for a cartoon too -- even more so than B&BH.
I so MISS B&BH -- what a classic show!! SouthPark is funny and all, but just not the good role models that kids could get from B&BH ;) |
Beavis & Butthead is on MTV2, along with Aeon Flux. I think Daria is on the N.
ETA: I wish MTV would remember that people older than 18, and many people from the original "MTV generation" still exist. These days I just feel ancient when I watch, since most of the programs are targeted to high school and young college students. Anyone remember Classic MTV? Bring that back! :) [/oldfogie] |

MTV should bring back 120 Minutes. When it was good, it was the best thing on TV not just MTV. The new releases of the Beastie Boys and the Cure have me feeling nostalgic.

VH1 Classic plays nothing but the classics. I like watching this a lot! |

I think the problem is that the people at MTV aren't listening to the public when they try to explain what they like, they're TELLING people what to like, and will cram it down our throats until we as a society are sick of it. All those crap pop bands made by MTV (Donnas, Good Charlotte, Creed) as well as the pop boy bands were expected to fizz out eventually, but that just means a team of 30 somethings that call themselves "consultants" will come in and tell the execs what THEY believe youngs adults want. Daria even parodied this.
Whatever, I'll get off my high horse and just say I don't watch MTV anymore and try not to bitch about it too much because there's nothing we really can do about it, and it's really not a big deal. |
I loved "MTV Unplugged", some of those concerts were just amazing.
|
Well, I was there at the beginning of MTV and I miss it being like that. We would just sit and watch for hours on end and really not see a lot of repeats. I can't even watch it now. Luckily, I get VH1 Classic and I can see some of the good old stuff.
|
by constantly trying to reinvent itself, mtv has watered down the message and often comes across as just confused.
|
MTV really doesn't have a programming problem. They don't even have an audience problem. They have changed their target audience from 18-24 music lovers to 14-19 (no backup data but it's pretty obvious), and those of us who grew up to worship MTV are seriously pissed.
Remember that edgy, in your face, kick ass MTV? Well I do too; that was still when the Real World cast twenty-somethings who had more life's ambition than winding up puking and having sex in a hot tub. (Think RW San Francisco...wasn't it Judd??? or someone who wanted to be a cartoonist, if I remember Pam had a career too...shit even Rachel wanted to work on some govt. campaign...)I dare you to watch RW now and even know what major some of those people are, if they go to school. Look at the faces in TRL's audience- all high schoolers. Lindsay Lohan/Hilary Duff/Ashlee Simpson are the teens these people idolize. And I don't think they'll ever really change, b/c teens spend money like there's no tomorrow, b/c its not theirs. I'm pissy b/c I want MY MTV (it was ours in the first place, dammit!!!) and I'm never getting it back. |

They don't really play any music I like on MTV anymore. I like M2 for a while but now it's getting worse too. I guess I just see it all as pointless...?? I could care less about the teenie-boppers one way or another. I've actually started watching VH1 from time to time.

errr, Lindsey's all right. She was in Mean Girls, right? That was actually somewhat funny. She's my favorite of the bunch. I don't know much about Hillary Duff. Then there's those Olsen twins. One of them is anorexic now. I like all of those stars more than say Britney Spears, if that makes you feel better. She wears too much body grease/glitter. That's creepy. I was never into the teenie-bopper thing. I was the depressed alt rock chick in high school. I just think it would be better if MTV did more of a variety of programming... Can you tell I'm procrastinating writing my thesis?.... yeah.. |
I like Hilary...but she is on my crap list after seeing the video for her & Hayley's HORRID remake of "Our Lips Are Sealed." And they copied the video too. Oy vey.
The best way I can sum up MTV is that Beavis and Butt-Head would NEVER make it to air nowadays...the artists that the channel pushes the most are the very type of thing they used to make fun of. When I went to the movies with friends over the weekend one of the guys said a friend had some tapes of the old 120 Minutes shows and we all went "awwwww..." Never in my life did I think I'd miss Kennedy. I think the change really started when Viacom bought them out...before that it was much more random (good random) - all types of music mixed together, playing Pink Floyd The Wall at 2 AM for no reason, etc. Once Viacom came along they insisted on making "shows." I think they even had to do with Nirvana being pushed and all the hair bands going away. They didn't think the 2 could coexist. They were looking at MTV like it was a radio station. It's supposed to be all kinds of music, not just one...but of course now, it's pretty much no music at all. M2 is getting just as bad. And don't even get me started on VH1. There's a new channel called Fuse that is supposedly what MTV used to be - I can get some of it from my On Demand but I think you have to watch a while to really get the feel of it. I agree w/ Tinydancer, thank heaven for VH1 Classic. Does anyone remember THE BOX?? Can't beat people calling in to hear "Gangsta Lean" every half hour. I just picked up one of my old Rolling Stones last night (from like 1996) and they had an article in about MTV which was kind of what we are talking about. If I'm bored at home this weekend, I'll type it in here. |

Or course the original MTV was way before Real World, Road Rules, etc.
It was hours on end of "VJ's" playing music videos. Damn, that Martha Quinn was cute. |
Can we at least stop calling it the REAL world?
|
the VJs like damien, hillarie, and kuddus are so corny. they are boring to watch. i am glad that some of the veteran VJs are still around
|
Daria is on the N...in the middle of the night...and of course there are no new episodes. I want new Daria episodes...I HATE how the show ended.
And I too think it's sad that they create a station for music that ends up going to all TV shows, so they create a second one that is just for music and THAT ends up going all shows...so now they have a 3rd one...let's see how long this one will last. I do have to say that MTV Espanol is doing a good job. You can actually most of the time watch videos...and it's GOOD music (if you're into Latin music). |
