Kathy- how are the wedding plans?

I haven't heard much from you in terms of wedding plans. How are they going? Even though I have no interest in marriage, weddings completely fascinate me.

xo_kathy 06-29-2004 03:34 PM

Oh - a thread with my name! That's always fun! :D And before I type anything else, be forewarned - YOU ASKED for this!!! ;)

Things are going well. I have the date, the church and the reception locale so I'm pretty calm now. My catering, cake and table centerpieces are included in the reception fee, so I don't have to worry about that (which is wonderful!). I have my three ladies set for my wedding party. A Chi O sis is my Maid of Honor and the other two are my two best friends from growing up. Now Orlando has to pick his! One of those briedemaids is doing my inviations, too. She has a business and they are beautiful and I'll get them very inexpensively.

I've been dress hunting and think I have found "the one". I had seen it in magazines and thought it was pretty, but it had pink beading and that just wasn't what I was going for. So I was out with my MOH and I see it but with silver/clear beading - not the pink. So I tried it on and loved it. All along I've tried on dresses and said "Oh, I really like this part, but not this part" or "Oh, I love it except I wish it had ____" This one had all the things I'd been looking for - a slight curve to the neckline, lots of sparkly stuff on the bodice AND skirt AND around on to the back, including the train, and there was beading on the hem, and it wasn't too poofy, etc etc etc. And it was the most comfortable dress I've tried on. I could totally dance all night long. Then I looked at the price tag - it's about half what I though I would spend!!!! So, all signs point to yes for this one. I'm going to Michigan next week to visit my family and I'll try it on for Mom and see what she thinks. I'll post a pic for your viewing pleasure, but it seriously does it NO justice. It is stunning in person. Plus, could the model look a little more excited?!?

So, that's about it for now. Soon I have to pick a dj, florist, and photographer. Oh, and I think my father has finally narrowed his guest list down so that we aren't inviting 250 people to a space that holds only 160! Who thought the drama would come from dad?!

Anyway, thanks for asking! I love to talk about it! Shocker, huh?

XOMichelle 07-08-2004 10:54 AM

Kathy-
that's a beautiful dress! I think you are right though, the clear/ silver beading would be better. What dresses are the bridesmaids wearing?

Well, it sounds like things are going well, and that you will be fairly un-stressed, especially since the reception fee includes all the food! I can't wait to see pictures. :)

It's official - I'm getting this dress! I tried it on for the second time with my mom and my sister-in-law and we all agreed it's "me". Please excuse my double chin - I guess I better work on that before the wedding! And the dress is a size too small, so I'm a bit stuffed in! :)

Congratulations, Kathy! You will be a beautiful bride. :D

CardinalSM 07-12-2004 03:10 PM

oh wow that looks gorgeous! It's beautiful on you!

KellyB369 07-12-2004 03:30 PM

What a beautiful dress! Thanks for the update. I need to live vicariously through all of you engaged people until my time comes, which will probably be another few years at least.

piphimaggie 07-12-2004 05:29 PM

excuse my interruption but I just had to say that the wedding dress is exquisite! Very classy choice :)

xo_kathy 07-13-2004 11:52 AM

Thanks for the kind words, ladies!

If you can't tell, I luvs me some sparkles!!!! :D

XOMichelle 07-28-2004 06:24 PM

Congratulations on picking out a dress!! It is beautiful :)

Now, what about the bridesmaids dresses?

HotDamnImAPhiMu 08-02-2004 03:24 PM

don't be mad! Maggie started it!

I love the dress too. But I want to see a picture of the ring!

Oh, and are you wearing your badge inside your dress?

xo_kathy 08-02-2004 05:02 PM

Ha ha, we don't mind crashers as long as they are nice! :)

And Jacquelyn, you saw my ring on the engagement rings thread. I think I posted it here in the Fun News thread, too. I'm an AW (attention whore) I know, I should seek counseling!

I definitely want to include my badge. I just have to figure out how. I think inside my dress might be abit uncomfortable and I'd hate to lose it moving around so much. And I'm not fond of putting it on the garter. If I have ribbon wrapping the stems on my bouquet I think I'll put it there. Also, my mom is a small part Cherokee Indian so she's having a friend of hers make a beaded pouch - the type of thing the chiefs daughter would have for her wedding - and in it she will put the sacred herbs (which I can't remember right now!), a 4 leaf clover for my Irish side, a swatch of my clan's tartan from my Scottish side, and something representing my Puerto Rican fiance. And I'll probably pin that pouch to the bouquet. So if there's room I might put my badge there?

I don't know!!! But NutBrn has to promise she won't turn me into HQ if I don't wear my badge over my heart!!! ;) :p

I see nothing...I know nothing!

(I have NEVER seen the badge on a garter -- and hope I never do!)

HotDamnImAPhiMu 08-04-2004 11:52 AM

This probably sounds weird, but when it seemed like I could NOT get a job to save my LIFE I wore my badge pinned where the bra strap meets the bra on the interview (still *close* to over the heart, and no one could see it.) Got the job.

Hmmm. I think I'd want my badge, but you could maybe do something else Chi-O ish? Like a lavilere in that little bag maybe. Or an owl pinned to your flowers?

XOMichelle 08-18-2004 01:32 PM

Kathy-
any new wedding news?
-Michelle

KellyB369 08-19-2004 03:59 PM

Yes Kathy, please do keep us single girls updated so that we can live vicariously through you. ;)

xo_kathy 08-20-2004 10:26 AM

Oh girls, thanks for indulging me!

I have picked the bridesmaid dresses. They are by the same designer as my wedding dress and we are getting them online for $70 each! Woo hoo!!!!!!
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/4...5b700000001610

They have pretty silver beads on the top part and are super comfy. The maid of honoe will carry red and pale yellow roses with some white carnations mixed in (she's a Chi O) and the bridesmaids will have just pale yellow roses. I'm going to carry a white bouquet of roses, peonies and carnations. :) Not meeting with the florist until Ocotber, but I want to just show what I want and have it done. If I'm given a bunch of choices I will be too indecisive!

I've blocked some hotel rooms, and am now researching shuttle buses to get my drunken out of town guests (read - my family) from place to place!

My biggest wedding news is that I started following Weight Watchers points system in July. I've done it before and had great success. So far I am down 9 pounds. I would like to be down a total of 20 by the holidays, so even if I gain 5-7 pounds then, I have 5 more months to take it back off! And I've started working out my arms so I can have "Madonna shoulders" by the big say! OK, so I wouldn't want them that muscley, but a little definition would be nice.

XOMichelle 08-20-2004 12:25 PM

totally cute! I like that the dresses are tea-length so you can wear it again, and then $70! You must win some kind of "best bride" award for picking such a practical (but beautiful) gown.

As for the losing weight... I used fitday.com to track what I ate and it made a HUGE difference. I didn't really understand how much I was eating until I had the website to calcualte how many calories my turkey sandwich was. Once my application insanity is over, then I am going to get back to it.

pinkyphimu 08-22-2004 12:47 PM

oooh, i love the dresses!! can i totally be in your wedding, cuz you definately win the best bride award. not only is that dress gorgeous, it can be worn again and again...and it was only $70! you totally rock!

good luck with your wedding!

CardinalSM 08-22-2004 04:26 PM

Those dresses are so classy!!! And I love the way you are incorporating carnations and red and yellow into your plans! It sounds beautiful already!

xo_kathy 08-23-2004 09:37 AM

:o Thanks for the kind words, ladies!

I try to be an accomodating bride. I know that you hardley ever can wear your bridesmaid dress again, so I figured if you couldn't, at least we could spend less (though I think they could wear it for New Year's or something like that, hopefully). One of my BMs just files bankruptcy and is going to Africa to volunteer with AIDS orphans for 6 months before the wedding, another is in the UK living near her boyfriend but waitressing for little $$, and the third lost her job right after she got back from maternity leave. Plus they all have to travel to NY for the wedding, so I tried to make it as easy for them as possible! :)

Michelle - I tried fitday, but so much of what I ate I had to input the nutritional info for, I was going nuts. But I do write it all down for WW, too. The first few days made me realize I had been eating WAY more than I should be!!!! I did buy new jeans this weekend, and while my normal size was a little big, I felt the next size down was a bit tight - but I bought them anyway because I plan to loose more weight! Inspriation ya know!

XOMichelle 08-23-2004 10:36 AM

Yes, if you eat a lot of stuff that isn't in there, it's tough. I got good at going on Calorie King and looking up the food I had eaten, then adding a "custom food". For some reason, this doesn't bother me at all. I understand the inspiration. I can only get myself going when my jeans start to get tight again.

KellyB369 09-02-2004 11:44 AM

The dresses are beautiful and you absolutely cannot beat that price. I also love that you are incorporating red and yellow and carnations into your flowers.

And congrats on the weight loss. That's awesome!!!

xo_kathy 10-13-2004 03:23 PM

Update time!

Not that anyone asked, but I'll fill you in anyway!

My mom came out to NY this weekend and we did all sorts of fun wedding stuff! I bought a tiara and ordered a veil, I booked my florist, and I registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Registering was fun but tiring! It took like 3 hours! I never thought it would take that long. And I'm a pretty decisive person. Definitely good to have mom with me on that one!

The flowers were quick, easy, and a lot less expensive than we anticipated. I really wanted peonies, but unfortunately, they are just barely coming into season in early May. The florist advised me that I would be paying top dollar for a smaller head. I decided it wasn't worth it. So I'll have a bunch of pretty roses instead. And I'll have white hydrangea centerpieces - so I'll still get the fluffy look I was going for for a lot less $$$$.

My tiara is a very simple band of little sparkley flowers and the veil is elbow length, two-tiered (though I won't wear it over my face) with a band of tiny beads and pearls around the bottom.

I also ordered my dress a few weeks ago (from a dress shop's online site) so it could come in any time! That is exciting, except I have no where to store it! Oh well!

That's it for now, ladies! Thanks for listening!!!

xo_kathy 11-18-2004 12:02 PM

MY DRESS!

My dress came in yesterday! Here are some pics I took myself with the timer on the digital. I don't have much makeup an and I'm doing something weird with the angle of my head, but you get the idea! I ordered online so I was a little nervouseabout fit, but it's great! It needs a slight hem and to be taken in a bit, but other than that it's perfect! Yayyy! And it is seriously SO comfortable!

Honeykiss1974 11-18-2004 08:12 PM

Beautiful dress. I love the veil too. :)

Hootie 11-19-2004 12:19 AM

Oh my gawd Kathy! You look stunning - simply stunning! I love your veil too! I mean the fact that we can see the silvery detail in a digital picter -whew- I wish I could see it in person!

You'll make the perfect bride!
Congratulations sweetie!

xo_kathy 02-04-2005 12:48 PM

So the board has been a little slow so I thought I would be an attention whore and talk about ME!!! :D Sorry!

Not much new, but I am getting married 13 weeks from tomorrow! Seems pretty crazy. Oh, maybe I can ask for help from non-NYers. For my favors I'm doing little gift bags with Puerto Rican candies (for him), dried MI cherries (for me) and now we need a NY item. What do you think of when you think of NY? It can be food or whatever. (And we can't do apples b/c in May they are not ripe here and we'd actually be getting Washington apples!)

And to add more pictures, this is my adorable neice in her Flower Girl dress. She will probably steal the show, but that's ok!!!!

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/4...c3570000001610

And my shower is in a couple of weeks and I registry peeked and someone bought me my fancy cookware! I'm very excited! :)

Honeykiss1974 02-04-2005 01:26 PM

Her dress to adorable! :)

Kathy, I love hearing your updates! (I do think it's crazy that it's only 13 weeks away & you still haven't officially asked me to be a bridesmaid!!!)

XOMichelle 02-08-2005 01:53 PM

Kathy-
That's the cutest flowergirl dress ever. Although, your dress is fabulous, so I don't think anyone could steal the show from you! ;)

A NY item??? Gosh, I can't really think of anything that says NYC to me. Maybe subway tickets?? lol. ;) Don't worry about adding an extra item, candy and cherries sounds like a tasty snack to me.

You must tell us about your shower when it is over!
lico,
M

AOIIBrandi 02-08-2005 02:05 PM

Sorry to crash, but I was reading the update. I always think of bagels or pizza when I think of New York foods.

NutBrnHair 02-08-2005 02:08 PM

Kathy, what about something like this:

Brandi: That's what we thought about, too! But I don't think a big ol' greasy slice of NY pizza will fit in the bag! :( :p And the bagels, to get good fresh ones I'd then have to wrap in plastic myself and I think that's just not what I'm going to want to do on Friday. Oh well!

Nut: We also did think about something like that. Maybe an I <3 NY magnet or something. I can go to China Town and get tons of those for about $5! That may be the answer!

Thanks, ladies!

XOMichelle 02-16-2005 04:52 PM

I like the I heart new yourk magnet idea. It's certianly something people will use.. and then they can remember your wedding!

How are things going? we are getting close, aren't we?

xo_kathy 02-18-2005 12:44 PM

Yes, it's 11 weeks tomorrow! So much to do still!

I'm leaving work early to go home to MI for my shower. Should be fun and exhausting. I know I am a dancer, so I don't mind beng on a stage performing, but sitting in the middle of a room, with all eyes on me while I open presents - it's going to be a little werid!

OK, this is OBVIOUSLY not me! And the pic I posted of my niece is now some girl I don't know with Cinderella!!!! How weird! Is this a shutterfly issue or soemthing?

At any rate! I'm getting married this Saturday! I'm very excited and won't be reported for running away to NM - I promise! :) We has a super busy weekend with laundry doing, shopping for welcome bag goodies, house cleaning for guests, etc etc. I'm only taking off Th and F this week, and now I wish I had put in for Weds. too. Oh well.

Right now the days before and after Sat are looking beautiful weather wise. But Sat.'s forecast has gone from defintie showers to "few showers" and it will be around 70 so that's good. The ceremony isn't until 5pm, so hopefully any rain will clear up by then - or hold off until after midnight!
